1 Spring Camporee St. Clair, Black Gold, and Kaskaskia Districts Lewis and Clark Council May 1-3, 2015 Camp Joy $12 a person Come Join in the Adventure of Huck and Tom and they battle the Mighty Mississippi under the watchful eye of Mark Twain Events will be based on Team Building and Problem Solving! Webelos 2 welcome to camp with Troop Webelos 1 and 2 may come out and participate for the day

2 Focus and Vision: The focus of this Camporee is to develop leadership skills and vision is to build the bonds of friendship in Scouting across the Council. To do this each boy will be assigned to a Raft (10 scouts) with other boys from different units across the council. This will allow them to express their leadership skills without the preconceived roles they have within their Troop or Patrol. They will build new friendships in scouting that will be strengthened later as they go to summer camp and later on to high adventure trips with other scouts. Each raft will be given a flag. Throughout the day they will get to decorate the flag based on the members in the group and the events they complete. At the end of the day the raft will vote and select the best leader (The Tom). The Tom will get to keep the flag to help them remember the group that helped them develop their leadership skills. Units can camp or just come out for the day. 3 Registration: Please register at the Council Web Site and for your camping requirements and camping rosters. Units that confirm prior to April 28 th will receive an advanced check in process that will include camp assignments. Camping A unit can camp Friday through Sunday or any combination between or just come out for the day. Please follow the following procedures for camping based on your decision. Friday night campers only Saturday night Campers only Friday to Sunday Campers Day Event Participants Friday night campers who are only planning on camping one night will be assigned to west lake camping sites. Please do not remove your vehicles from those sites until after 6 pm due to activities and scout safety. Units only planning on camping Saturday night will be assigned south hill top camp sites due to activity safety and ease of getting equipment in to camping locations while activities are in progress. The troop roster will need to be sent the address below by Wednesday April 29 th. This information is important to establish the Raft units for the events. These units will be assigned camping sites on the east side of the lake and in designated overflow locations by the Gate, on West Lake and the Hill. Please bring the fewest vehicles possible. Ground Fires Ground fires will be permitted only in designated campfire rings. If you unit has an above ground fire basin please use those or gas stoves.

4 Events: All events are based on a team building theme from a Low COPE perspective. They include activities from the stories of Mark Twain. Raft Group Events Painting the Fence (A large game of concentration) Huck and Jim Rafting the Mississippi (a very large roller barge) The Real Injun Joe (OA Indian game) The Royal Nonesuch (don t get arrested) Mark Twain s Cave (don t get lost) Huck and Toms Raft Rescue Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County Murder of Dr. Robinson - Tom Sawyer, Detective (murder in the grave yard) Mark Twain s approach of Halley's Comet Tom Sawyer Pyramids and the Sphinx Grangerford s and Shepherdson s Feud Flooding the Comstock Lode Rescuing Becky from the Cave Sounding the River for Bodies CPR station Troop Raft Race Event: Each Troop/Patrol can bring a raft constructed of the following materials: Race Route Inner tubes (3 max) Canvas or Nylon Duct Tape Pool Noodles (3 max) Cardboard Paint The Race will cover a course from the activity field to the water front to a buoy back to the water front to a bell by the dining hall. Rules: 1. The patrol/troop must carry/drag the raft to the water front. 2. Two raft riders must board the raft and raft around the buoy and back to shore. 3. Rafters must wear life jackets at all time. 4. Only two paddles may be used on each raft. 5. Winners are the first to run the course and ring the bell. 6. Violation of the Scout Oath or Law will disqualify a troop/patrol. All units will start at the same time! This event will have a first, second and third trophy.
