AUTOMATIC AWNING IMPORTANT INFORMATION BEFORE INSTALLING YOUR AUTOMATIC AWNING Updated 08/09/15 AN AWNING INSTALLATION IS A HOME IMPROVEMENT PROJECT REQUIRING STRICT ADHERENCE TO THE ENCLOSED INSTRUCTIONS. IF AFTER READING THE INSTRUCTIONS, YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, OR DO NOT POSSESS A FULL UNDERSTANDING OF THE TECHNIQUE AND/OR ABILITY REQUIRED TO SAFELY INSTALL AND OPERATE YOUR AWNING, DO NOT PROCEED. CONTACT CUSTOMER SERVICE AT TO REQUEST AN INSTALLATION QUOTATION. YOU ARE INSTALLING YOUR AWNING AT YOUR RISK. We SHALL NOT be liable for any damages whatsoever, and in particular, shall not be liable for any special, indirect, consequential, or incidental damages, or damages for lost profits, loss of revenue, or loss of use, PERSONAL INJURY OR PROPERTY DAMAGE arising out of or related to the INSTALLATION OF YOUR AWNING OR RELATED COMPONENTS. Fixings We recommend you seek advice on any fixings you require from your local hardware Store. As every surface structure varies the types listed below on the chart are purely a guide. Check what surface you are drilling into and match to fixing accordingly. Description Automatic Awning CONCRETE: Dyna Bolts 5x50mm TIMBER: Hex Head Screws 12x35mm Wall Plugs suited to the above fixings 2
AUTOMATIC AWNING TOOLS & ACCESSORIES REQUIRED Tools required Before starting you will need the following; (PLEASE NOTE: Fixing screws and wall plugs will need to be purchased from your local Bunnings Store, for either wood, concrete, brick etc see fixings reference details) An assistant Tape Measure Step Ladder Drill Drill Bits Power or Battery Masonry may be required Pencil Spirit Level Screwdrivers Flat head Phillips Head Spanner Size Required depends on fixing option chosen Chalk Line Installation of your Awning Ÿ When unpacking your awning, take care to protect the awning from accidental damage or soiling. Ÿ Do not drop or drag the awning on the ground. Ÿ When removing the protective wrapping from the awning, do not use a knife or box cutter to the wrapping as you could accidentally slice into your awning fabric. Ÿ Your awning has been shipped to you partially assembled but it is important to follow this instruction manual to securely fasten the mounting brackets to your home and install the awning. Ÿ Please read these instructions completely before installing your Automatic awning. Ÿ You will need an assistant(s) for installation. Ÿ Left and Right references are as you are facing the house. Ÿ You have been provided with the proper brackets, (hooding if applicable) but you will need to provide the drill and bits (and additional fixings if required) once determining the fixing surface. (See page 3 for tools required). 3
AUTOMATIC AWNING WITHOUT HOODING Step One i) Measure up from the mounting location starting on the left side and make a mark at the desired mounting location, then the right side (Dia 1/i). ii) Using a chalk line string, snap a level line the width of the awning. Installation without Hooding left to right mark at each end Step Two I) Hold the bracket in the required mounting position and mark (Dia 2/i) clearly the holes for drilling (work with one bracket at a time). ii) Check for level positioning with the spirit level of the brackets, a minor adjustment of the brackets may be required. iii) Make sure you have clearance above window so roll can t be seen from inside the home. (Dia 1/i) (Dia 2/i) Step Three I) Insert the spring side into the bracket, make sure the pin goes into the hole, drop the idler side into the slot at the other end second. NOTE: Refer Spring Tensioning instructions as per page 6 Bracket Mounting Options Face fix mount Ceiling fix mount 4
AUTOMATIC AWNING WITH HOODING Installation with Awning Hooding Step One i) Measure up from the mounting location starting on the left side and make a mark at the desired mounting location, then the right side (Dia 1/i). ii) Using a chalk line string, snap a level line the width of the awning. left to right mark at each end (Dia 1/i) Step Two i) Hold the hooding in the required mounting position and mark (Dia 2/i) clearly the holes for drilling. ii) Check for level positioning with the spirit level of the hooding, a minor adjustment of the hooding may be required, so it can t be seen from inside the window. (Dia 2/i) Step Three I) Insert the spring side into the hooding, make sure the pin goes into the hole, drop the idler side into the slot at the other end second (Dia 3/i). (Dia 3/i) 5
AUTOMATIC AWNING TENSIONING PLEASE NOTE: The Auto Awning comes pre-tensioned, below is a guide should you wish to alter the tension (not recommended). Increasing and Decreasing the Tension Increasing I) To increase the tension, drop the holding tab down to engage the spring pin. ii) Take the awning out of the brackets, lay it on a bench or floor, then wind the spanner clockwise a further 2-3 turns (or as indicated on the chart below if all the tension has gone), then put the awning back into the brackets. Spring Pin Clockwise INCREASING TENSION Spring Assembly Holding Tab Decreasing I) To decrease the tension, drop the holding tab down using a flat head screwdriver to engage the spring pin. ii) Take the awning out of the brackets, lay it on a bench or floor, then wind the spanner anti-clockwise 2-3 turns, then put the awning back into the brackets. Spring Pin Anti-Clockwise Spring Assembly Holding Tab DECREASING TENSION Spring Pre-Tensioning Chart All our awnings arrive with pre-tensioned springs, however should all tension in the spring assembly arrive undone, then use this chart to work out how many rotations are required for tensioning ie for an awning 1800mm wide and 1200mm drop, use min 7 full rotations to tension the spring. Note: Use this chart for minimum rotations required (more rotations may be required) DROP WIDTH AWNING SIZE
AUTOMATIC AWNING ARM INSTALLATION Installation of Automatic Awning Arm Step One I) Measure from the bottom of the hooding to the under side of the bend on the guide rod shown as A ie for 150mm arm measure 150mm down from the hooding, for 300mm arm measure 300mm down etc. A Step Two I) Drill holes with the appropriate drill bit, insert wall plugs for brick and concrete walls (not provided with the installation accessories) and secure metal guide rods to wall through the top two holes ONLY. Step Three I) Slide an auto guide arm onto the guide rod and secure awning to the bottom rail using screw provided. Screw Step Four i) Make sure the guides are vertical and parallel. To help ensure this, pull the awning down. 7
AUTOMATIC AWNING ARM INSTALLATION Installation of Automatic Awning Arm Step Five I) Drill & attach lower guide support brackets at the bottom of the guides with screws as shown (screws not provided see page 3). WARNING: The Automatic Awning is designed to close when the strong wind blows against the fabric. This wind pressure releases the tension on the arms which causes the awning to self close. 8
Care and Maintenance Instructions AUTOMATIC AWNING General care and maintenance of your Sunline Automatic Awning WARNING: Ÿ Prior to operating the Sunline Awning, be sure that no objects or persons can come in contact with it as it opens and closes. Keep children away from any moving parts of the awning as it operates. Failure to do so could result in personal injury. Ÿ Never attempt to hang items from any part of the blind, except those accessories that are supplied by the manufacturer. Ÿ Never attempt to repair or disassemble any part of the blind without following replacement part procedures supplied by the manufacturer. Trying to do so without proper instructions could result in personal injury. Ÿ It is normal for the fabric to form waves or wrinkles at the hemmed edges as the blind rolls up. This is because the fabric layer is double along the edges. Ÿ Never use a barbeque grill, any type of patio heater or fireplace near your Sunline awning. Doing so could result in the fabric burning or melting and could result in personal injury. PROTECTING THE FABRIC FROM MILDEW Ÿ If it is necessary to roll the blind up wet, be sure to extend it out to dry when the weather is better. Ÿ While the blind fabric itself won t mildew, mildew can form on the dust and dirt allowed to accumulate on the fabric. Ÿ If the fabric is rolled up and stored when wet, the moisture will promote the formation of mildew. CLEANING THE FABRIC Ÿ DO NOT use caustic cleaners. Ÿ Clean with spraying of luke warm water and a mild soap while gently brushing. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove any soap residue. Thoroughly dry before rolling away. Ÿ Cleaning the awning regularly with mild soap and water will extend the life of the fabric. 9
