7 Camp Wilderness Activity Areas Water Front In order for Scouts and adults to go swimming or boating, each person must take a swim test. You do have the option to have this done before camp. The swim test form is available on-line. Swimming Requirements: Under the Guidelines set forth by the Boy Scouts, for every 5 people in the water, there needs to be a guard watching the same area as the swimmers. To make sure that our Scouts have all the opportunities to go swimming at camp, the camp will be asking for parents to help guard during open times. Boating Requirements: The camp has rowboats and canoes for you and your Scouts to use at camp. Sports Keeping active and in good shape is important while on your journey of discovery in the wilderness. Cub Scouts get plenty of exercise playing games during this time on the playing field. Crafts Make a project this summer that you can take home with you! To take out a canoe, you must be a swimmer. In order to take out a rowboat, you must be a swimmer or a beginner can go out in a rowboat with an adult swimmer. An adult swimmer can only take 1 beginner out at a time. Non-swimmers can not go in this boat. Fishing Wilderness has an abundance of fish swimming under and around the fishing area. Sunfish, Bass, Crappies and Northerns can be caught from the Camp s fishing dock. Rods, reels and bait are provided. We also lash some canoes together to make a big floating barge. The same requirements as a rowboat apply. We realize that not all Scouts can pass the beginners or swimmer test. A certified lifeguard can take these Scouts out in a boat during session times, but not during free time. 7

13 Frequently Asked Question at Camp Wilderness When should I wear my uniform? We encourage Scouts to wear them at flag ceremonies and campfires. Tuesday is uniform day in camp and we encourage the Scouts to wear them all day long! Can I bring my son/daughter to camp? Camp Wilderness is a Scout camp, but we realize that sometimes the only way a Scout can attend camp is with their sibling. It is up to the Pack to decide if they can stay in the same site or cabin. The siblings can eat in the Dining Hall for $5.50 a meal and participate in open activities, but not other activities. Can I bring a bike to camp? No, bikes are not allowed in camp. Can I mail my medical forms in early? Medical forms cannot be received before you arrive in camp. They will be sent back if they come in before camp starts. Can I bring a camper? Yes you can and the cost is $25 per day. This includes water hook-up and electricity. We do not have a dump station at camp. The location for campers is the Family Camping area in the Butler Wilderness Outpost. Why should my Pack attend Camp Wilderness? Our camp offers a quality camping experience in a pristine setting. Camp Wilderness prides itself on the staff and the high retention that we have so your Scouts see their favorite staff person year after year. Scouts and Scouters that come to Camp Wilderness call it their second home and we open our doors to your Pack as well. Welcome home! 13
