2 Our Mission To Provide An Individualized Camping Experience Rich IN Tradition Dear Friends, It is with great pride that I welcome back our many returning families to what I am confident will be another outstanding summer. I am also thrilled to extend a warm welcome to those of you thinking of joining our Bayview Glen family for the first time. Bayview Glen Camp has been a leader for children s camping since we began 56 years ago. Our goal today is the same as it was then creating special memories that last a lifetime. Each season we host over 1,000 families from the Greater Toronto Area, as well as many international families. While our programs have changed over the past 56 years, our industry best camper to staff ratio ensures that every child is still assured the same balanced, inclusive, creative, energetic, caring and safe Bayview Glen Camp experience. 3 Program Age Breakdown Junior Camp Program Ages 4, 5, 6 BORN Daily activities are geared toward the specific developmental requirements of 4-6 year olds Campers can expect a carefully crafted schedule balancing a variety of activities throughout the day Counsellors are carefully selected for an ability to foster young children s development Staff-to-junior camper ratio of 1:3 ensures their safety and enjoyment As this is often a child s first camp experience, we communicate regularly with parents about their child s adjustment to camp life Senior Camp Program Ages 7, 8, 9 BORN Program is geared toward the developing minds of campers as they grow Program options continue to increase in complexity to match their developing needs Graduation into Senior Camp means that campers will begin to develop their independence and self-confidence Campers are offered more choice in their schedule and select their own activities several times a week Elective Camp Program Ages 10, 11, 12 BORN Programming is designed to offer specialized instruction in a variety of areas allowing campers to develop skills based on their choice There are more than a dozen electives available in the morning and the afternoon Campers specialize in a particular area each morning and afternoon Leaders in Training Program Age 13, 14 Pre-LIT BORN 2005 LIT BORN 2004 Leaders are offered a hands-on experience with campers and receive training in the areas of: Communication, Teamwork, Health and Safety, Conflict Management, Child Development, Risk Management, and programming techniques for different age groups Leaders are placed with either a cabin of campers and counsellors or in a specialty with a specialist counsellor Leaders participate in a variety of team-building and social experiences Sunshine Program All ages Our Sunshine Program supports the integration of campers with special needs The Director and Sunshine Coordinators will meet with parents before the camp session to review each camper s specific needs Campers will be placed with a support worker and an individualized plan will be created to support successful integration and a rewarding camp experience

Many have Post-Graduate degrees in teaching, or plan to specialize in working with children. 5 Our Program Programming at Bayview Glen Camp is designed to meet the developmental needs of each age group from 4 13 years of age. All of our activities are chosen to develop and promote the intellectual, physical, and emotional growth of each camper. In addition to Canadian Life Saving Society swim instruction being offered daily, campers will have an opportunity to participate in a variety of different activites, depending on their age and interests. Baseball Camp Born Our baseball program offers our campers a variety of intense and fundamental skills suitable for all levels of play. Our experienced coaches are dedicated and committed to player and camper development both on and off the field. Basketball Camp Born Our expert instructors will teach everything from the basic fundamentals Tennis Camp Born Campers will have the opportunity to develop their tennis strokes, learn the rules, strategies and conduct themselves with proper court etiquette. Our experienced tennis coaches will offer our campers a chance to accelerate their performance, basic skills, concentration techniques and personal discipline. Golf Camp Born Campers will be taught the fundamentals and technicalities of golf both on and off the greens. Participating in week-long clinics, each golfer will learn how to improve their swing while learning more about the game itself. Horseback Riding Camp Born Campers will head north to the Royal Canadian Riding Academy (RCRA) where they will have the unique opportunity to participate in week-long riding clinics. Campers will not only learn about riding, but also about proper horse care. Paddle Boarding Camp Born Led by the experienced staff at Paddleboard Addicts, campers will have the opportunity to head to the beaches to participate in week-long Stand Up Paddle Board and Kayak activities. Dance Camp Born With expert choreographers and dance instructors, dance campers will see specialized instruction in hip-hop, jazz and contemporary styles.

If your camper is born between 2009 and 2012, they can participate in BVG Specialty Camps. Certain options are offered in different weeks. You can check the choices and options in our brochure, located on our website under Registration Information. Multi-Sport is also available for Monkey campers. Tiger campers are only eligible to register for Tennis, Golf, Horseback Riding, and Paddle Boarding. Is a certain staff member returning? And if so, can they be my child s counsellor? We are very lucky at Bayview Glen to have a high rate of returning staff. We would be happy to let you know if a certain staff member is returning to camp and, if they are returning, in what area they will be working. Please note however, that the majority of staff placements occur closer to the summer. Can I come and take a tour of camp? Absolutely! Please call us to schedule an appointment. We also strongly encourage families to take advantage of our Family Night during which campers will have an opportunity to meet their counsellors, unit heads and see all the facilities that camp has to offer! When are bus routes completed? Can I make requests regarding our bus route? Bus routes are designed to maximize safety and efficiency by professional routers. These routes are typically completed by mid-june at which time we would be happy to provide you with specific information related to your camper. Pick-up and drop-off times will be provided to you on bag delivery day in June. On this day, the bus will come to your house and campers will have an opportunity to meet their bus driver and bus counsellors. Any change of address notifications should be communicated to the Camp Office as soon as possible so as to ensure that we can accommodate them. Unfortunately, requests relating to bus routes cannot be accommodated by the camp. Can you tell me the names of the other children in the cabin in advance of camp? Current privacy laws prevent us from releasing names or any other personal information. We would be happy to confirm whether your child has been placed with the children you requested on their original application, however we are unable to provide any further information. What will a typical day of camp look like for my child? For the majority of campers the camp day begins on the bus. That s why BVG works hard to ensure that the bus ride is never boring. Campers and counsellors are encouraged to decorate the bus and to prepare a cheer as part of our daily bus spirit competition. Once at camp, campers will participate in singing and dancing at flag before moving on to first period. There are eight periods per day including lunch, instructional swim and recreational swim. The other periods will be a mix of activities ranging from cooking, to karate, to sports and everything in between. Two unscheduled snack periods will also make up each child s day. Campers depart camp at 4:00 p.m. What food is served? Food services at BVG are provided by Aramark Canada Ltd. All of our nutritious meals are prepared on-site in our fully equipped kitchen. Lunches include such kidfriendly favourites as Chicken Fingers, Pizza, Pasta and BBQ. Fresh fruit and vegetables are available at all meals. Snacks include a choice of water or juice as well as crackers, cookies and fruit. My child attended BVG last summer. Is it possible for me to get a copy of the 2017 invoice for tax purposes? Definitely! If you need a copy of your 2017 invoice, please call the Camp Office and we would be happy to and/or send you a copy. Your 2018 invoice will be mailed in the Fall. Can I extend my child s stay if they like camp when they get there? Absolutely! Provided that there is still space available in their cabin for the period during which you want to extend, we would be more than happy to arrange an extension. Please feel free to call the Camp Office at any time leading up to or during camp.

In addition to a morning instructional swim and an afternoon recreational swim, campers can look forward to five different activities each day. Our program is designed so that your child will have a perfect balance of art, sport, science, nature, outdoor adventure and performing arts activities. Choice electives are introduced once a week for Lynx campers and twice a week for Cheetah campers.
