2 REMEMBER! NO TRACE CAMPING! GENERAL INFORMATION REGISTRATION: A registration fee of $5.00 will be charged for all Scouts and Scout Leaders. A registration form is provided with this packet. Please make all checks payable to: "Boy Scouts of America". Please register at TOUR PLANS / PERMISSION SLIPS: Tour Plans are no longer required for Scout camps. Parental Permission Forms are required for each boy (enclosed) or he will not be allowed to attend this camp. FIRST AID: Each Unit should bring their own First Aid Kit. The District will also have a FIRST AID STATION set up at the District Headquarters. WATER AND LATRINES: Please bring your own water, as it may not be available at this site. We will have the use of the toilets. Please see that your Scouts use them and that you leave the toilets in your areas clean. FIRE: No trace camping is a must! There will be no fire wood available at the site. Plan to bring your own wood and/or fuel. Please remember that all fires must be in containers, at least 18 inches off the ground. You must take extreme caution with the use of fires. GARBAGE: Plan to haul your garbage and ashes out with you. FORBIDDEN: SHEATH KNIVES, WRIST ROCKETS and FIREARMS ARE NOT to be brought to this camp. Please make sure that all your Troop members are made aware of this directive. All Firearms will be provided. HAZARDS: This will be an awesome camp experience. We need to take seriously, the Scout Motto Be Prepared. Please make sure that both your personal transportation and your troop's camping equipment are in good condition. Start early, and drive carefully on the roads. Prior to leaving, Scoutmasters should carefully check the clothing and camping gear of each boy to make sure that no Scout or Leader is likely to become dangerously wet and/or cold. Make sure that your Boy Scouts do not disturb the wildlife, and that they are appropriately warned and aware of animal, reptile and insect hazards.

3 CAMP RULES 1. Scout Leaders and Senior Patrol Leaders are responsible for the conduct and discipline of their patrol members. 2. Obey the Scout Oath, Scout Law, Scout Motto and Scout Slogan. 3. Respect other patrols and patrol members. If you wish to visit another campsite, enter at the camp entrance and ask permission to enter. This is proper Scout etiquette and shows good manners. 4. A ratio of one leader for every five scouts is suggested. A minimum of two Scout Leaders per troop is required. 5. Scouts are not to ride in pickup truck beds or trailers at any time. When traveling, a seat belt must be provided for every Scout in every vehicle. Please insist that they use them. 6. This is a Scouting event - a Scouting show. Uniforms are an important part of this camp. We expect to see all Scouts, and Scout Leaders in a full uniform during the entire camp. If you plan to participate in the fire building activity, bring your own fire building materials.

4 Saturday Morning Games and Activities Prepare your scouts to compete in the following activities: A-FRAME CHARIOT RACE View Video Materials: two 8-foot x 4-inch spars, one 6-foot x 3-inch spar, three foot x 1/4-inch manila lashing ropes for each patrol Method: On signal, patrols lash together an A-frame using a shear lashing at the tips of the 8- foot spars and square lashings at the butt ends for the 6-foot ledger. (Three square lashings can be tied, if decided.) When the A-frame is built, it is either dragged or carried around a pre-set course or to a turn-around-line and back. The course can be completed by more than one patrol member in accordance with whatever guidelines are decided beforehand. Scoring: The fastest patrol to complete the race wins. BOWLINE SHEET BEND DRAW View Video Materials: 3-foot rope or braided nylon cord for each Scout Method: Each patrol forms two lines facing each other. Each Scout holds his rope in his right hand raised above his head. At the word Go, each races to tie a Bowline around his waist, then join the ropes together with a Sheet Bend. Scouts lean backward with their full weight to test the knots. Scoring: The pair of scouts with the fastest time, wins. HUMAN LADDER RACE Materials: 3 or 4, 4ft long staves, thirty foot length of rope. Method: Lay the rope on the ground forming a path with several turns and twists and a finish line. The patrol forms two lines facing each other at the beginning of the path, one line on each side of the rope. One patrol member is reserved as the climber. Each pair of Scouts facing each is given a stave to be used as a rung of the ladder and holds it at knee height forming a horizontal ladder above the rope. The climber stands at the start of the path in front of the first rung of the ladder. At the word Go, he climbs onto the first rung of the ladder and continues stepping forward on each proceeding rung. As the climber steps off a rung the two rung holders proceed to the other end of the ladder and create a new rung and extend the ladder. The ladder and climber continue in the same manner following the path of the rope until the climber crosses the finish line. If the climber touches the ground or a rung holder crosses the rope they must go back to the beginning and start over. Scoring: The patrol with the fastest recorded time, wins. FIRST AID CARRY RELAY View Video Method: Patrols line up in relay fashion facing a single turnaround post located 15 feet away. Two Scouts from each patrol carry the first injured Scout using Two-Person Carry around the turnaround post and back to the starting line. Next two Scouts carry the second injured Scout using the Four-Handed Seat Carry around the turnaround post and back to the starting line. Next Scout carries the third injured Scout using a One-Person Carry around the turnaround post and back to the starting line. If at any time an injured Scout touches the ground, the Scouts carrying this injured Scout must stop, reform their carry and continue. Scoring: The patrol with the fastest recorded time, wins.

5 STRING BURNING RACE (wide, out) Materials: for each patrol, two 2-foot sticks, two 3-foot lengths of binder twine, two matches Method: On signal, two representatives selected by each patrol build a fire lay (not higher than the lower string) and light it. After being lit, the fire must not be touched, nor can more wood be added. Note: Troops must bring their own fire building materials and are limited to using only one fist-sized amount of tinder in their fire lay. Scoring: The team whose fire burns through the top string fastest wins. LASSOING THE STEER View Video Materials: 20-foot rope for each Scout, small log Method: The small log is placed upright in the center of a well-defined circle 18 feet in diameter. On signal, all Scouts make a lasso using a bowline to form the fixed loop. All those unable to tie one have to drop out until their lasso is made with a bowline. Scouts stand outside the edge of the circle, and throw their ropes and attempt to lasso the steer and pull it out. Scouts can have as many throws as are needed to rope the steer. Scoring: Patrols are awarded points each time one of their members can rope the steer. HULA HOOP HORSESHOES View Video Materials: large open space, hula hoops, socks filled with coarse sand. Method: Use hula hoops as targets and sand-filled socks as horseshoes, and play regulation Horseshoes rules. A sock inside the hoop is a ringer. Patrols line up in relay formation behind an assigned hoop. Each Scout takes a turn to land a sock inside the hoop from 25 feet away. Scoring: Each ringer equals a point. The troop with the most ringers out of 10 throws wins. SCOUT LAW RELAY Materials: scout law cut-out sheets. Cut out each section. Method: Have each patrol line up at the start line. Have a judge for each patrol standing about 30 feet away holding a bucket with all the Numbered papers in it. A scout runs to the judge, draws out a paper and says the word of the Scout Law that it corresponds with. For example, he pulls a 4 and says Friendly. He returns the paper and runs back to tag the next scout. Score a point for each correct point.

8 AUTHORIZATION AND CONSENT I consent and authorize my child, to participate in and I accept all responsibility (including financial responsibility) for my child's actions during the following event: Fall Camporee, JR Property Camp, September 22-23, If my child behaves inappropriately during the event, I understand that I may be requested to come and remove the child from the event. Under these circumstances, I agree that it is my responsibility to make arrangements for my child's return home. I know of no health restrictions that would endanger my child through participation in the event. In case of emergency, I understand that every effort will be made to contact me. In the event that I cannot be reached, I give my permission to the event leaders to give first aid and seek professional medical assistance, which may include hospitalization, anesthesia, surgery, or injections of medication for my son/daughter. I also give my permission to the medical professionals to properly diagnose and care for my child as they deem necessary. I am aware of the risks associated with the event and hereby release the chartering organization, and the event leaders of all responsibility for any injury to my child which occurs while participating in the event. I understand there may be shooting sports involved in this camp and I authorize my child to participate in such activity. I authorize the scouting organization to allow the use of any photos of my child for promotional purposes.
