1 CUB-EXPERIENCE 2017 Eagle Trail District Pack Leaders Guide Sept 22 nd 24 th, 2016 Camp James Ray Scout Reservation All Cub Scouts and families, listen up! Come and spend the weekend with other Packs from Eagle Trail District at beautiful Camp James Ray. The adventure will start at Friday evening, September 22 nd and continue until 9:00am on Sunday, September 24 th. This is a family campout opportunity for your Pack. WHERE Beautiful Camp James Ray Camp James Ray Scout Reservation is located on the shores of Lake Texoma, only about 60 miles from Allen. You should be able to simply type Camp James Ray into your smart phone to find it. The official address is at Camp James Ray Scout Reservation, 71 Camp James Ray Road, Pottsboro, Texas. WHAT CUB-Experience = Fun!!! CUBE is an awesome opportunity for Cub Scouts (and elementary age siblings) to have a family campout experience with other Packs in our district. All day on Saturday, your scouts and elementary age siblings will enjoy lots of activities. Some activities may qualify for advancement or activity requirements, some may teach scouting skills, but *all* activities will be lots of fun. This year, we making a few changes to the format: 1. CUB-E is on same weekend and same camp as Webelos Outdoor Weekend 2. We are asking both Packs and Troops to volunteer to run a station. 3. Lunch will be provided on Saturday, to get you back into the fun as quickly as possible. 4. The evening will close with a campfire program Saturday night. 5. Packs can choose to camp one or both nights.

2 Activities will include BB Guns, Archery, bean bag toss, crafts, wrist rockets, and much more. This is a great opportunity for your Pack to go on a family campout. You can use this to fulfill certain campout planning requirements for rank advancement. For families with boys in both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, combining WOW and CUBE at the same event can make scheduling easier. Who - Cub Scouts, elementary age siblings, and parents Both Cub Scouts and elementary age siblings can participate in the activities. Registration fee is per Scout or sibling. Parents do not have to pay registration, but BSA policy still requires an adult to accompany each Webelos Scout. Cub Scouts and siblings will be under the supervision of their parents/guardian or designated adult. Packs are responsible to make sure they maintain two deep leadership. Registration Cost The Registration fee for this event is $10.00 for each participating youth (Cub Scout or elementary age sibling). There is no registration fee for parents or non-participating youth (children not in 1 st 5 th grades). The Registration fee enables us to cover cost of participation patches, lunch for everyone, and event supplies. Each Pack will be responsible for all other meals. When Registering on Campmaster, please include: # youth participating in activities (scouts & 1 st -5 th grade siblings) Total # adults, and total # youth Nights camping (Friday, Saturday, or Both) # tents (estimate) Any food restrictions for lunch (i.e. vegetarian, peanut, gluten, religious )

3 The Schedule Packs will begin site preparation Friday night to be ready for the CUBE program. Packs can sign in to camp between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM on Friday Sept. 22. The activity stations will be open from 9:00 AM 4:30 PM, with a lunch break. The camp-wide campfire will start on Saturday night at dusk, approximately 8:30 PM. A more detailed agenda and camp information will be available upon check-in. 4 Leadership Cub Scouts and siblings must be under adult supervision at all times. The welfare of the individual Scout is the direct responsibility of the adult leaders. It is the leaders responsibility to control the actions of their Pack, and organize any free time activities for the boys. All Scouts and adult leaders must be registered with Eagle Trail District. Be friendly, courteous, patient, helpful, and considerate to the boys, parents, and staff members. The area you occupy is your Camp Home for the weekend. Pack Leaders should participate with their boys in all camp activities, such as openings, closings, campfire, and special events. Logistics Each Pack will need to furnish their own food, as well as equipment for preparing their meals unless they coordinate with the Troop with which they are camping. The key here is that food (for all meals except for lunch on Saturday) is the responsibility of each unit, and will not be supplied by the district. Dishes and other washing must be done in the campsite. Latrine Bathroom sinks are for hand washing only. Stoves and lanterns using propane fuel may be used by adult leaders. Only propane or self starting charcoal may be used. The use of Coleman fuel, white gas, gasoline, or charcoal lighter fluid is prohibited for this event. Each Pack is asked to perform a Cub Scout BSA approved skit at the campfire. Please note that you may be sharing campsite areas with other units so that we can serve more Scouts.

5 Activity Stations - Packs can sign up for a station Activity Stations will be hosted and run by Boy Scout Troops, but Cub Scout Packs are also encouraged to host and run an activity station. We need your help so we can provide as many fun events as possible. Pack Leaders please consider volunteering some of your leaders to plan and host an activity station. Contact Brian Romans to sign up your Pack to host an activity station, or to discuss ideas or logistics. Below are some suggested station activities: air bottle rockets box hockey water bottle rockets stilts bean bag toss lasso toss ring toss hippity-hop race washer toss crafts nail hammering leatherworking neckerchief slides or new ideas you may have. Vehicles Units are allowed to bring one vehicle down to camp Friday night / Sunday morning for unloading/loading only. Vehicles will require a Camp Pass to remain in the camp. There will be NO vehicles allowed in the camping or program areas on Saturday except for those required by the staff. If you arrive on Saturday you will have to walk your equipment down. Suggestion: If you will be arriving on Saturday, work out with one of the adult in your pack arriving Friday night to bring the bulk of you gear with them on Friday evening. Saturday arrivals will NOT be allowed to drive down to ensure safety of the scouts. Fires Do NOT leave fires unattended; when extinguished, it must be cold to the touch. Campsites are assigned to assure complete use of campsite space. Fire rings are shared, which can be a fun way to meet people. Fires can only be built in the established fire rings, no ground fires outside the fire rings. Do NOT move the fire rings. Do NOT build new fire rings. Do NOT dig holes for fires or grease pits. Each Pack provides its own fire protection. If a Fire Ban is in effect, only propane stoves are allowed for meal preparation.

6 Saturday Campfire There will be a main campfire program Saturday evening. Pack leaders and scouts are encouraged to prepare scout appropriate, leader approved skits for the program. What to Bring? Everyone should bring Scouting Spirit, of course!... as well as: tent water bottle sleeping bags/bedding jacket and gloves (if cold) sleep pad/mattress insect repellent towel sunblock basic toiletry articles flashlight rain gear comfortable clothes hat trail/hiking shoes socks The Class A Cub Scout uniform is to be worn at all opening and closing ceremonies. Remember, that weather can be unpredictable and you should prepare your Pack for a rainy weather camping experience. PLEASE, DO NOT BRING: alcoholic beverages, archery equipment, axes and/or hatchets, firearms, fireworks, glass containers, sheathed knives or pets. Insects and Poisonous Plants As always, be prepared to defend yourselves against mosquitoes, chiggers, and ticks. You should also come prepared to treat poison ivy.
