Required Forms: 1. BSA Medical Form A, B and C signed and dated by Physician (Two Copies - one copy for troop & one copy to turn in to camp). 2. Health Insurance Cards (2 front and back copies) 3. Medication Permission Form 4. Permission to Shoot (2 copies) Optional Form: 1. Dietary Needs Form - complete 2 copies of this form if your scout has special dietary considerations. Forms will not be accepted without copies. If you have already turned in your forms, copies will be made for you. DEPARTURE Sunday, July 19 th at 6:35am from Gum Springs Library. All scouts MUST be in Full Class A Uniform for the ride. No exceptions. ROAD TRIP Eat breakfast at home Sunday morning. Scouts may bring a snack but please be sure they are not messy or sticky (respect the driver s vehicles). Scouts may bring electronic devices for the road trip. There will be one stop for lunch and occasional pit-stops. Be sure to bring money for these stops (see SPENDING MONEY section below for suggested amounts). SCOUT HANDBOOK All scouts who have not earned First Class yet must bring their scout handbook. Make sure the scout s name is in the book. 2 MAIL AT CAMP Because camp is only 6 days, we encourage parents to write letters in advance and give them to our Troop Postman prior to departure. **Pre-written letters will be collected at Shakedown. Our Postman this year is Mr. Chris Chatman. He will conduct mail call at camp each day after lunch. Specifics about mail Please place pre-written letters in UNsealed envelopes, Write your camper s name and the day you want the letter delivered (i.e. Monday, Tuesday ) on the front of the envelope, Place all letters in one Ziploc bag, Use your discretion about how many letters to send (one a day is recommended), Keep your messages light and upbeat. Comments like we miss you or we can t wait to see you foster feelings of homesickness. Consider including a joke of the day; asking about what they did; or letting them know they should be proud of their accomplishments. $PENDING MONEY Scouts will spend money while at camp and while traveling. The BCH Slushie stand is particularly popular on hot summer days, as well as the Trading Post for snacks, souvenirs, and Merit Badge books. Some classes required scouts to purchase additional supplies from the Trading Post as well. Money is held for safe keeping by the Troop Banker. Mr. Miller is this year s Summer Camp Banker. Please review the following recommendations 1. TRIP UP MONEY: Scouts should bring about $20 with them for the car ride up. This money will be used for lunch and pit-stop snacks on the way to Babcock-Hovey. Upon arrival, any remaining money may be given to the Banker to hold with the scout s funds. 2. SITE MONEY: ~$75 is a typical amount for the week (if discretion is used on Slushies), PLUS ~$20 for the return trip lunch and pit-stop snacks. **The site money should be given to the Banker at a Shakedown (see below). **Bring Site Money to Shakedown in a Ziploc bag with the Scout s name and amount clearly written on the front of the bag. Money must be in $1 and $5 bills as change cannot be made. Please note, the Banker is not responsible for campers losing funds, nor how the money is spent. The purpose of the Banker is to prevent theft/loss of any large amounts. There are no adult loans given so caution your scouts to spend wisely and be sure they reserve a minimum of $20 for lunch/snacks on the ride home. CAMP OPERATIONS Buddy system will be used at ALL times Camp will be kept clean and neat INCLUDING tents Showers are available and will be used! Bug Spray: Required. NON-aerosol spray only ** Hiking: Stay on marked trails only NO running NO open-toe shoes NO electronics Bring refillable water and drink fluids regularly No motor vehicles in camp and no riding in ANY vehicle No Bikes All campers will take swim classification test at camp. Wristbands will be given with swim classification and MUST be worn while at camp. If lost, the scout will need to be retested. Aqua socks and sandals are not allowed. Some merit badges require supplies or have an additional cost. Plan accordingly. UNIFORMS Class A, including scarf and slide, are required for pictures at check-in, at dinners, flag ceremonies, and campfire. Please remove loose items prior to camp. Class B attire for all other camp events and classes (Class B is anything other than Class A. Troop or BCH T-shirt recommended but any T-shirt will do). Scouts will receive one BCH T-shirt at camp. Those who pre-ordered Troop 2012 BCH shirts will receive theirs before departure. Troop 2012 Summer Camp Orientation 2

3 PROGRAM All attending scouts have been registered for the Merit Badge Classes they selected. If your camper has not yet signed up for an optional evening Merit Badge Class, be sure to visit the MB Sign-up and register your selections. Optional afternoon programs are available to scouts of all rank. Scouts will get an opportunity to visit the various areas (technology, water sports, etc.) if they so choose. For questions about MB class selections and activity options, contact Mr. Eitzel. SCOUT BEHAVIOR This is something we ve never had to invoke, however it can happen. A scout will terminate his time at camp if he violates the following rules: Commits personal and physical harm to another person (hitting or fighting) Is involved in hazing another scout. This includes bullying or playing pranks on another scout without their consent. Intentional damage to another scout s personal property, or camp property. As the parent, you will be expected to arrive at the camp within 8 hours to retrieve your son for transportation home. The scout will be removed immediately and placed at the camp office with one of our adult leader no matter what hour it is. He will remain there until you arrive and he is released to you. PACKING LIST (suggested). Foot Lockers (strong Rubbermaid) are easy to move, easy to pack, and sit well on tent platform. Backpacks are acceptable but hold less and are more work (not recommended). Divide all clean clothes in Ziploc bags. For example, one set of clothing per day, per bag. Dirty or wet clothes can then be placed back in bags. Please mark name on all belongings (including the footlocker). Scout s belongings are their responsibility. No Alcohol, Fireworks, Firearms, air guns, Pets, Sheath Knives, or Drugs. CAMPSITE RULES These are the Troop 2012 Campsite Rules upheld in addition to any BCH Camp rules. Conduct yourself in accordance with scout oath and law. DO NOT enter someone else s tent without permission. **Be respectful of your tent-mate and troop mates. Keep your gear neatly stowed inside your tent and observe the campsite quite time from 10pm to 6:20am. ALWAYS ask permission to enter another Troop s campsite: Proper procedure is to stop at the edge of their camp and ask permission to enter. o Question: Permission to enter camp? o Response: Permission granted. Respect everyone s basic rights. It is everyone s responsibility to help each other and assist with skills they do not know. Label ALL personal items where it can be seen (books, hats, socks, sierra cups, eating utensils, headlamps, footlockers, etc.). If you lose something and it is labeled, you have a much better chance of getting it back. Unlabeled items may never be returned. Scouts are responsible for their personal gear. Permission MUST be given before leaving camp or any group activity. Buddy system will be used at ALL times. Scouts to wear proper footwear in and around camp. No bare feet or open-toed shoes. No electronic devices in camp (tape players, games, radios, cellular/mobile phones, etc.) They will be confiscated and returned at end of outing. Each scout is to maintain good hygiene. Scouts to use proper restroom facilities. If no restroom available, use proper woods skills methods (cat holes or latrines). NO relieving in or near camp or on trees. Do NOT use aerosol insect spray in tents. It removes the water proofing! Cream/Lotion preparations are recommended. NEVER cut a rope without adult supervision. Maintain the Troop s equipment. Equipment damaged through negligence by a scout or a group of scouts will need to be replaced/repaired by those involved at their expense. Follow the Outdoor Code and principals of Leave No Trace. 5 SUMMER CAMP MEDICAL INFORMATION A physical is required for both scouts and attending Adults. Medical Form B must be completed with immunization record (month & year). Medical Form C requires both doctor and parent signature. Physical must occur within 12-months of summer camp. All participants will be screened by Medical staff at camp on arrival. **Medical forms, copies of insurance card, and participation Form A will be collected by Alissa Miller at the Shakedowns. Boy Scouts MUST have a completed current BSA Medical Form (parts A, B, and C) to attend Camp. **Two copies of these forms are turned in at Shakedown. Medical Forms are not returned please copy. Medication Form must be completed by all scouts as it includes a list of OTC medications the scout may receive while at camp. **Please turn in one copy of the Medication Form at Shakedown and include a second copy with the medication as follows: Medications need to be in the original container and placed in a Ziploc bag with the Scout s name on the bag.
