3 The Bora is the perfect tent to take with you into the wilderness. The three-season Bora has a freestanding partial geodesic design that creates a comfortable, breathable inner shelter protected by a durable, waterproof seam-sealed fly-sheet above, and a tough waterproof floor on the ground. This two-person tent is compact enough to carry in a pack, but it s still large enough to sit up comfortably and get ready for your day of exploring without bumping against the ceiling. CARING FOR YOUR BORA TENT: We ve written these instructions specifically for you. We know you know what you re doing, but please read through and follow them anyway. This tent must be fully and correctly pitched to these instructions, using all guylines and pegs supplied; failure to do so may void the warranty. We recommend pitching your new tent for the first time at home to become familiar with it and to check you have everything. It s better to be looking at it now, than looking for it when you need it.

6 CAUTIONS: Keep open flame and all other sources of heat away from the tent. The fabric of this tent is not fireproof. Excessive heat can damage the tent fabric, waterproof coatings and components. NEVER cook inside your tent. Cookers produce carbon monoxide, which can (and has) killed people. So cook outside, even if the weather s rubbish. Shelter your stove with carefully placed rocks just outside the vestibule.

7 CARE INSTRUCTIONS Store all poles and pegs separately in the bags provided to avoid damaging the tent fabrics. This tent can be damaged by petrol, kerosene, alcohol, detergents and aerosols such as fly spray and deodorants. Do not machine wash your tent. Clean off any loose dirt with a damp cloth and mild soap. DO NOT use bleach. This will really destroy it. Line dry in shade. Store the tent loose if possible so that air can circulate. Only store your tent when it is completely dry. Leaving the tent wet can damage waterproof coatings, corrode the poles and cause mildew. Note that webbing, zips and bungys take longer to dry. Before storing, empty all pockets and carefully close all zips.

8 TIPS ON SITE SELECTION AND GENERAL USE Select a level site without debris or hollows that can fill with water. Avoid low-lying areas that could be prone to flooding. Remove sharp objects such as rocks or branches that could puncture the floor and spoil a good night s sleep. Check above to ensure you are clear of any fall zones, and that you have a safe run-out below. Avoid pitching directly under trees. Bird droppings and sap can damage the fly and falling branches can damage you! Pitch the tent aligned into the prevailing wind. There is a door on both sides, so you can always enter from the sheltered side. Be aware that buffeting winds can come from any direction, especially in the mountains. All pegs, guy-lines and poles must be secure and correctly tensioned. Insert pegs angled away from the tent for greater holding strength. A large stone placed on a peg can give additional security. Check it will not chafe the tent.

9 If you encounter snowy conditions, it will be necessary to periodically clear snow from the roof. Do not leave it unattended for long periods in strong winds, heavy rain or snow. UV rays will eventually cause damage to your tent. To extend its life, we recommend you do not leave it pitched for long periods of time. In cold or wet weather, condensation from your breath will form as water droplets inside the fly and can be mistaken for leakage. The only solution for bad condensation is good ventilation. To help you out, the tent has a breathable inner, plus vents on the fly to promote air circulation. The inner fabric has also been treated with a special finish to assist water droplets in running off, rather than dripping on to you. NOTE: The tent inner is NOT waterproof!

Lay out the tent inner groundsheet downwards. Secure one upwind corner. 2. Assemble the poles carefully, inserting the joints fully. Do not shake the poles to snap them together. This can cause them to break. Avoid stepping on the assembled poles for the same reason.

11 3. Thread the two grey poles into the pole sleeves marked with grey, and the orange pole into the sleeve marked with orange. 4. Insert the end of one grey pole into its corresponding corner eyelet. Carefully flex the pole and insert the other end into its eyelet. Repeat with the other grey pole, and then with the orange pole. Clip the inner to the poles. In very calm, dry weather, the tent can be pitched inner only. Just make sure a storm isn t lurking on the horizon!

12 5. Lay the fly over the inner. This tent has a front and back. The front of the fly can be identified by the label marked FRONT on the fly tension webbing. The peak of the orange pole is above the front door. To secure the guy-lines, fasten the Velcro tabs around the pole sleeves. Clip together and tension all quick-release buckles.

13 6. Close all zips and position the tent. Peg one vestibule through the bungy loops. Tension the tent out and peg the other vestibule. Make sure the inner is evenly tensioned and the floor is flat. Peg the sides down. Insert all pegs angled away from the tent for extra holding strength. 7. Peg out all guy-lines evenly, at least one metre from the tent. Check they are secure and that the fly is not touching the inner, which could cause leakage. Never underestimate how much extra stability properly deployed tent guylines add. Always use them; they ll help your tent stay put. 1 METRE

14 PACKING UP: 1. Remove any debris and empty all internal pockets. Close all zips. 2. Remove the pegs and poles then collapse the tent. 3. When dismantling poles, take them apart at the mid-point first, folding both halves together. This evenly distributes the tension on the pole shock cord. 4. Remove stubborn pegs using another peg as a hook. Do not use the bungy loops to pull them out.

15 5. Place the tent floor downwards and fold lengthwise together into the middle, then fold in half again. Fold the fly the same way and place on top. 6. Put the poles and pegs into their bags and lay them across one end. Roll the tent up around the poles, flicking loose guy-lines into the middle as you go. NOTE: a tent carefully folded this way will be much more compact and easier to open up than if it is just stuffed into the compression sack.

16 FIELD REPAIRS If your tent does become damaged, these repair tips will keep you going while you re out in the wilderness. We recommend to take it into a Kathmandu store for evaluation before your next adventure. POLES: If a pole should split or break in the field, slide the pole repair sleeve onto the pole directly over the break. Secure it using waterproof duct tape, or wedge it with a twig. This is only an emergency repair. Replacement pole sets are available from Kathmandu. BUCKLES: Although the fly-inner buckles are sewn in, a temporary repair can be made by tying the new buckle through the tent inner webbing-loop with thin braid. A short length of guy-line can be used in an emergency.

17 GUY-LINES: If a guy-line should become lost or damaged, the replacement one can simply be knotted into the guy-fin. The best knot to use is a bowline. SEAM-SEALING: Your tent fly is factory seam-sealed. If this should become damaged, a repair can be made with liquid seam-sealer such as Aquaseal. Seam sealing liquid can also be used to repair pin-hole damage to the tent fly or floor fabrics. RIPPED FABRIC: A rip can only be properly repaired by sewing on a patch and applying seam sealer. Handily enough, we ve included fabric pieces in the repair kit. If you re in a tight spot, dental floss makes excellent emergency thread. Repairs to the floor or fly must then be seam-sealed.
