For the first time ever, the Fall RV Show presented by the Midwest Gateway RV Dealers Association is coming to Chesterfield, more specifically to the parking lot of the St. Louis Premium Outlets, located on the south side of Interstate 64, just east of the Daniel Boone Missouri River Bridge. The show formerly was held in Hazelwood, but Midwest Gateway RV Dealers Association Executive Director Tammy Wildman said the move just makes sense. The new Chesterfield location is more centralized for those who attend not only from St. Louis, but also from Columbia, Jefferson City and Springfield, Illinois. With nearly 300 recreational vehicles, including motorhomes, 5th wheels, travel trailers, sport utility trailers, pop-ups and camper vans from 10 recreational vehicle dealers onsite, Wildman expects the show to draw travel enthusiasts from far and near, and she said there s really no better time than the present to attend the RV show. This is a great time of year to shop for a new RV, Wildman explained, as many of the dealers that make up the Midwest Gateway RV Dealers Association are looking to make room on their lots and in their showrooms for the new models that come out in the spring. She explained that, in the RV industry, spring means January and February. Roasted Broccoli & Tomatoes also can be cooked in a foil pack on the grill. But be sure to turn the foil pack carefully and frequently to prevent scorching. When making a foil pack, consider making single serving packs. Smaller packs cook more evenly and are easier to handle. To make the foil pack, center the ingredients on a sheet of heavy duty foil, leaving enough on all sides to be able to bring up the sides and double fold the top and ends to seal the pack. Be sure to leave room for heat circulation inside. Quick-Fix Beef Burrito Skillet Ingredients 1 pound lean ground beef 1 package (1 oz.) taco seasoning mix 1 can (15.5 oz.) no-salt-added red kidney beans, rinsed 1 cup salsa 1 cup water Food to go A collection of road-tested recipes 4 flour tortillas (6-inch), cut into 1-1/2- inch pieces 1 cup Kraft Mexican-style finely shredded four cheese blend 1/3 cup sour cream 1 large green onion, chopped Directions 1. Brown meat in large nonstick electric skillet on medium-high heat; drain. 2. Add next four ingredients; stir. 3. Bring to boil; simmer on medium-low heat 5 min. 4. Stir in tortilla pieces; top with cheese. Remove from heat; cover. Let stand 5 min. or until cheese is melted. 5. Top with sour cream and onions before serving or let everyone add their own. Roasted Broccoli & Tomatoes Ingredients 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 teaspoon McCormick garlic powder 1/4 teaspoon McCormick black pepper, coarse ground 12 ounces fresh broccoli florets 1 cup cherry tomatoes 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar 2 teaspoons honey 1/2 teaspoon dried basil or several fresh leaves, chopped 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano Directions 1. Preheat electric skillet to 400 F. Mix oil, garlic powder and pepper in large bowl. Add broccoli and tomatoes; toss to coat well. Spread in skillet in a single layer. 2. Roast 13 to 15 minutes or until broccoli is lightly browned, stirring frequently. 3. While vegetables are cooking, mix vinegar, honey, basil and oregano in small bowl. 4. Move cooked vegetables into a serving bowl. Drizzle glaze over roasted vegetables; toss to coat well. Serve immediately. Blueberry Cobbler Ingredients 6 tablespoons butter 1 1/4 cups baking mix 1/2 cup sugar 2/3 cup milk 3 cups fresh Directions 1. Heat electric skillet to 275 F. As skillet is heating, melt the butter in it. 2. In medium bowl, whisk together baking mix, sugar and milk; pour over melted butter. 3. Sprinkle blueberries evenly over batter. Experts are waiting Bring your questions to the show By KATE UPTERGROVE What is a recreational vehicle? That may seem like a silly question, unless you re asking it of Tammy Wildman, executive director of the Midwest Gateway RV Dealers Association. As Wildman explains it, RVs are everything from pop-up campers to self-contained motorhomes and the 2016 Fall RV Show & Sale will feature them all. Wildman added that the RV show is the perfect place for people who like to camp, but no longer want to sleep on the ground, to come out and see what might be next or for families who travel a lot because of sports tournaments and who want an alternative to staying in hotels or young couples who want to get out and explore. It s also perfect for people who ve seen a fifth-wheel or motorhome rolling down the highway and said there goes the dream, because maybe it doesn t need to be a dream, Wildman said. The point is, when you re talking about recreational vehicles, there s literally something for everyone. She added that people attending the fall RV show will have the chance to talk not only with RV dealers, but also with the people who own them. This show attracts a lot of current RV owners because fall is a good time to get some great deals, Wildman said. And RV owners are a really friendly bunch. Wildman said sharing information about the RV lifestyle is an important reason why the Midwest Gateway RV Dealers Association exists and why it hosts its spring [at America s Center] and fall RV shows. We want people to come with lots of questions, Wildman said. Which is good, because according to GoRving.com, there s a lot to consider when deciding if the RV lifestyle is right for you, starting with a realistic budget. There are some obvious benefits, such as being able to travel with family pets at no additional cost or being able to get up close and personal with nature while feeling right at home. But what about the costs? Some costs are flexible, others are not. Insurance is one of those non-negotiable expenses. Not only does it protect your RV and belongings think homeowners insurance meets auto coverage but it s also the law. As with other forms of insurance, annual costs vary widely depending on coverage limits and customer service. Maintenance and annual fees also can vary widely among RV models and from state to state, according to GoRVing.com, so prospective RV owners may want to ask current RV owners and dealership representatives about typical maintenance costs and annual fees.
