1 fusion 2018 DEAR CAMPERS AND PARENTS/GUARDIANS, Camp is rapidly approaching and we are excited that you chose The Alliance Southeast Camps at Lake Swan to serve your camper this summer! We have been bathing this summers campers and program in prayer. Staff are coming together, plans are being set and now we are ready for a camp week filled with fun and fellowship. Now, a few things you need to know before you get here! Our theme this year is Fusion, in which we are focusing on look in (Your Story) from the Gospel Footprint. This means understanding that God has masterfully designed us to use our talents and strengths for His Kingdom and His glory. We are so excited to have Melissa MacDonald (The C&MA National Office) to help guide us in this experience! Please make sure to go through ALL the information included with the welcome letter. The better prepared you are for camp, the better we can make the experience for you! When you arrive at camp, be prepared to have - A completed medical card - Signed dress code/policy form - A Snack Shack envelope with money (for Kids Camp) - A huge appetite for FUN - And maybe some clothes and other stuff We ll include that on another page ;) We are SO excited to grow alongside your camper in self-discovery as we explore what the Lord has in-store and how He continues to shape and mold us for His service. We are confident that lives will be touched, new relationship formed and older relationships deepened. Expect to - [[Be Outdoors]] Engage with God s creation - [[Get Unplugged]] Find an escape from distractions - [[Meet God]] Interact with God in a deeper way - [[Make Friends]] build friendships to walk in the Spirit together Included with this letter is a list of drop off and pick up times, a packing list, our Camp Dress Code and discipline guidelines. We would like you and your camper to look over this together. Please contact me if you have any questions! 3 For Campers and Their Parents/Guardians DRESS CODE & DISCIPLINE POLICY We want every camper to experience all that God has for them this week. Therefore, campers will be expected to 1. Engage fully with the planned activities. Engage fully with the planned activities. Stay with your group unless you have been excused by your counselor, and always stay on the campgrounds within the sight of the other campers. Bring your Bible to the main sessions, and anticipate that God will speak to you. This week is to unplug, so please don t bring any electronics except, perhaps, your cell phone to be used when your counselor gives permission for music*, personal photos and videos, and your bible app. Watching streamed or downloaded movies/tv/video content at camp is not allowed. 1. Be considerate of others and the camp. You don t want to tempt others unnecessarily, so follow the guidelines for storing personal money and valuables, and dress modestly. We will have to ask you to change any clothes that are too short, revealing, or suggestive, or have logos that are inappropriate. Clean up after yourself in the cabins and bath houses, and help out when asked in cleaning up the cabins and nearby grounds. Even when playing, try not to hurt others or damage property. Bullying will not be tolerated. 2. Refrain from behaviors considered unhealthy or dangerous. Tobacco, alcohol, drugs and medications (not given to the nurse to dispense) are forbidden. Knives, fireworks, or other items that can obviously hurt people should not be brought on campus. Once you have arrived, you are not to operate a motorized vehicle on the campground. Only enter the lake or use the water equipment under camp supervision. Report any accident, illness, or concern to your counselor. They are there to help you, and they can send you to the nurse or camp leadership. In order to ensure a camp environment that is safe and allows each camper the best experience possible, all campers are expected to abide by these guidelines. Camp staff will address issues in an encouraging and instructive way, and corporal punishment will never be used. If a camper is not complying with these policies, they ll receive a verbal warning. Subsequent failure to comply will result in loss of privileges. Ongoing challenge to authority will result in the intervention of the camp director, who may then include the camper s youth leader and/or parent/guardian in finding a resolution. Rock Solid Camps reserves the right to send campers home, at their own expense, if they are unable to comply with the camp policies and submit to the authority of camp staff in a responsive way. I,, HAVE READ AND UNDERSTAND THE DRESS CODE POLICY AND Camper/Parent Guardian DISCIPLINE PROTOCAL ABOVE. 4 Good guidelines for a GREAT Kid s Camp experience We want all campers to experience the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ at Kids Camp in a safe and wholesome environment. Experience has proven that the best way to prevent "homesickness" is to assure your child that you will be praying for them. Tell your child that you expect him/her to have such a great week at camp and that it will go by fast. Ask them to pray for you if they miss you, but do not give them an "out." A child will adjust to the separation if they know it is short term. Kind-hearted parents who promise to come get them if they cannot bear it or ask to be called often make it hard for the child to fly on their own. Campers are expected to respect and obey their counselors, program staff, and Lake Swan Camp workers. We do have clothing standards as listed under "What to Bring and NOT to Bring to Camp". The program staff will be the final judge on the appropriateness of clothing. We have campers in bed and lights out by 9:30 PM. Please do not call or ask your child to call you after that time. Students must stay within the boundaries of camp. That will be explained to all campers at orientation along with other rules for safety. Lake Swan Camp is in a rural setting. Campers must wear shoes at all times outside. They need more than flip flops or sandals because they will be running and there are woods. It is very easy to get splinters if the feet are not protected. Footgear must be worn at all meals and meetings. Bathing suits must be covered in the dining hall and chapel. We encourage fun games and activities with a purpose. However, raids, rough housing, destruction of property, or persistent disrespect/disobedience will be grounds for dismissal. The parents of campers who destroy property are liable for all damages. SNACK SHACK & GIFT SHOP-Campers can bring additional money for snack shack and the gift shop. That money must be turned in upon check. There is a $2 per day limit on snack shack to avoid sugar splurges. Gift shop spending is unrestricted. Any unused money in returned to the camper on the last day of camp. Campers can receive mail while at camp. Keep your messaged short and encouraging to help prevent homesickness. CAMPERS NAME c/o Lake Swan Camp 647 State Road 26 Melrose, FL Monday, June 19 DROP OFF 2:00pm (1 leader should check in the group you arrive with, campers can wait outside of Minder Hall for cabin assignments) Saturday, June 24th PICK UP 9:30am
5 What May You Bring? o Bible o Notepad o Pen/pencil o Play clothes o A pair of closed toe shoes o Bathing suits *Girls - 1 piece bathing suits only, do not bring bare midriffs, no tube tops or spaghetti straps, no clothes that expose underwear *Boys - please bring pants and shorts that fit, no clothes that expose underwear. If pants droop down to show underwear, you'll be asked to put them in your luggage and wear something that is appropriate o Bag for dirty clothes o Bedding: pillow, sleeping bag or sheets, (with A/C the cabins are cool at night ) o Towels (2) o Toiletries: soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrush & paste, etc. o Sun block and a cap - sunburns are possible and no fun o Flashlight Video games of any kind (DS, PSP, etc.) ipods/portable music. What May You Not Bring? Cell Phones and Campers Cell phones are a part of life. The portability of communication and contact with home is essential. However, cell phones also offer a major distraction with their games and other apps. It is that part of the cell phone that we want to discourage and avoid. We understand that campers might need a cell phone to report in upon their safe arrival and other 'emergencies'. But please keep the use of a cell phone to a very bare minimal. We have found that those campers who keep calling home or receiving calls from home have the hardest time adjusting to being away from home. The campers have come to camp to be away to meet with Jesus and experience life 'on their own'. Please encourage their step toward the Lord and keep cell phone contact to emergencies only. The return home on Saturday will be all the more special and exciting Kid s Camp Staff Contacts: Director: Emily Dailey edailey@thealliancesoutheast.org Assistant Director: Whitney Pritchard whitney@cccfortmyers.org Program: Jamie Sulle jsulle@thealliancesoutheast.org Lake Swan Camp
