All of us on the Chamber of Commerce Board and staff hope that all of our businesses are having a successful, prosperous summer so far. We look forward to checking in with our business owners in the fall for feedback on the summer's business trends. EVENTS The 4th of July was a wonderful, fes ve day with thousands of visitors enjoying an awesome parade and the biggest fireworks show that Friday Harbor has ever had. Thank you to Becki Day, Execu ve Director of the Chamber of Commerce, and her staff for all of their hard work on this showcase event. Thanks also go out to Traci Wilson our parade coordinator, Kings Market and The Town of Friday Harbor, our major sponsors and, of course, to all members of our community who so generously made donations large and small. It was a true Island effort. Erin & Robert Shackelford own Camas Designs, a floral design and artwork company. Their delivery truck "li le miss sunshine" is bringing fresh flowers and what they call "locally sourced happiness" to SJI and beyond. Erin has been arranging flowers for years while working her "corporate" job simultaneously. Earlier this year, Erin decided life was too short not to follow her passion and is now bringing joy via flowers to those around her. Camas Designs provides flowers for weddings, special events and offers twice monthly flower subscrip ons for

2 those wan ng flowers in their home or business. Robert is a photographer and the island is the biggest inspira on for his work. His landscape and macro photography can be seen at Robert also does the web design and photography for Camas and creates artwork on a custom made CNC machine. Camas is commi ed to using American grown flowers and sources their flowers from SJI farms and a Northwest flower farmer co-op. Erin and Robert love their new business and are sincerely grateful for the support of the community and the great new friends they've made through Camas. To learn more about Camas Designs, visit their website at E x e c u t i v e D i r e c July has come and gone in a fury and it will be Labor Day weekend before we know it. I wish all of our members and this community a successful August. Our peak season is a me to share with our visitors how great it is here in the off season as well. We have great events throughout the year, ie the Savor the San Juans through the month of October, the Friday Harbor Film Fes val November 4th through the 6th and our Island Lights Fes val December 2nd to name just a few. Offering things to see and do that are either unique (one of a kind) or extraordinary (other towns might have them, but ours is be er). Effec ve community tourism development aims to give visitors an authen c, high-quality experience that they will remember for a long time. Our 4th of July was one for the records this year! The Town and community showed our patrio c pride and visitors and locals were wowed by how great the Town looked. Our parade coordinator Traci Wilson, along with her line up of extraordinary volunteers and parade par cipants, put on the best parade ever! My hat goes off to the energe c, organized and awesome co-worker Traci. A huge thank you to our MC Duncan Wilson, Minnie and Jim Kynch, the parade judges Lin and Pam Pearson and Teddy Soares. And a special shout out to Benjamin Ross who made it possible for the MC's to be heard up and down the street!

3 Nick Gislason and his team of all island volunteers put on a fireworks show that is also one for the records as well. The beauty and magic of the fireworks show ended with a finale that seemed to be endless. We thank Kings Market for the matching grant, the sponsorship by the Town of Friday Harbor and all the local contribu ons that made this such a memorable event. The Chamber was honored to co-sponsor the San Juan Island Lavender Festival July 16th and 17th at the Pelindaba Lavender Farm. The 15th annual event draws thousands to the island every year and has been growing in a endees. There were demonstra ons of products, tours of the farm, local artists selling their wares, great food, marimba music and more. Our app, The San Juan Islands Insider, is live and gaining momentum! 8 Quarterly Luncheon We had a great Quarterly Luncheon at Brickworks on July 19th. It was catered by Daniel VanHamersfeld of Van Go's Pizza. He and his staff served a delicious lunch and topped it off with fresh berry and peach tarts! We had brief updates from Town Administrator Duncan Wilson on road work and the affordable housing crisis, a Port update on the Spring Street Landing building from Greg Hertel, and EDC update from Victoria Compton. The meeting ended with a 4th of July Parade recap from our parade coordinator Traci Wilson. We surprised Traci with flowers and a new 4th of July bag for all of her dedication and hard work on the best parade ever.
