Agenda Introduction ADS-B Overview Short History ADS-B In vs. Out Where we are today Infrastructure: US, Europe OEM Equipage Timeline Mandates What Do We Do With All This Great Data? Leveraging ADS-B In - SafeRoute What Pilots Are Saying About ADS-B In Post Your Questions L-3 Communications Proprietary 2
Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS-B) Automatic - Periodically transmits information with no pilot or operator input required Dependent - Position and velocity vector are derived from the Global Positioning System (GPS) Surveillance - A method of determining position of aircraft, vehicles, or other asset Broadcast - Transmitted information available to anyone with the appropriate receiving equipment #1 - ITT Video L-3 Communications Proprietary 3
USA Ground Infrastructure status USA Ground Stations ITT contracted to deploy Nationwide ADS-B Surveillance services coverage down to 1,800 ft by Total 794 stations. L-3 Communications Proprietary 4

What do you need for ADS-B Out? For ADS-B Out A transmitting radio A compliant position source Simple controls L-3 Communications Proprietary 7
Why 2 Data Links In The U.S.? 1090Mhz frequency congestion 1090Mhz - Enhanced version of the 1,090 Mode S Extended Squitter (ES) Existing transponders, Mode 3/A, C or S, Responds to interrogation at 1,030 MHz Replies on 1,090 MHz 978Mhz - Less congested frequency band Universal Access Transceiver (UAT) UAT doesn t replace a Mode 3/A, C or S transponder L-3 Communications Proprietary 8

What is the difference between ADS-B In vs. Out A. ADS-B In squitters every 7 seconds. B. ADS-B In brings data into the cockpit for use by the flight crew. ADS-B Out provides additional information broadcast from vehicles more quickly to the controllers. C. Pilots use ADS-B Out inside the cockpit to receive position reports from other aircraft D. All the above Survey Questions L-3 Communications Proprietary 17
Mandates L-3 Communications Proprietary 18
What is the FAA ADS-B Mandate? January 1, 2020, when operating in the airspace designated in 14 CFR , you must be equipped with ADS-B Out avionics that meet the performance requirements of 14 CFR Aircraft not complying with the requirements may be denied access to this airspace. ADS-B Out is mandated, and only within certain airspace. Title 14 CFR defines the airspace within which these requirements apply. L-3 Communications Proprietary 19
The FAA Issues the Final Rule: AC Equipage required by 2020 ADS-B Out required ADS-B In optional GPS performance defined Airspace requirements defined ADS-B links defined UAT < FL ES unlimited L-3 Communications Proprietary 20

I am an ATP and fly above FL 180. When do I need to equip my aircraft with 1090 Extended Squitter (DO-260B)? A. January 2014, when the ground stations are all active. B. I do not need to plan for these changes as the manufacturer will send me new updated transponders. C. In the US, I need to equip by If I am flying internationally, I will ensure compliance if I equip by December D. Above FL 180, I do not need to comply with these mandates if I am RVSM-compliant.
