As normal there was weather like they had never had before. We had winds measured at 90 mph; there were limbs down, trees uprooted, flag poles twisted, some torn flags and one vehicle incident. A large tree limb fell on the Hord s truck demolishing the camper shell; after several days and miles of searching for a new camper shell, a used one was found, installed and personal items were reloaded. There was rain and there was heat. Texas Hill Country Unit members in attendance were Gail and Warner Hord, Jim and Raisin Schwerfeger, Doug and Sheryl Wylie, Shannon Wylie, Gayle Ketchum and Joe Long and our affiliates Kathryn and Myron Fischer and Barbara and Roy Dezendorf. The WBCCI IBT Seminar started the activities on June 25 th, Parade of Flags and Opening Ceremony was on June 28 th, Delegates Meeting on June 29 th, Installation of International Officers for on July 3 rd, the 1 Sunshine Report P 5 Fourth of July Parade, and WBCCI IBT Meeting on July 5 th. In between there were officer s meetings, devotionals, bicycle excursions, various informational seminars about RVs and RVing, vendor shopping, various games and contests, and meeting and greeting WBCCI family and friends. THCU members participated on the following committees/ positions: Jim Schwerdfeger 3 rd VP and Raisin as his First Lady; Chairmen: Gayle Ketchum Entry Verification, Joe Long Jam Session and Photographer, Warner Hord Safety Inspection, Gail Hord Usherettes, Doug Wylie Welcome; Committee Members: Gail Hord Entry Verification and Rally Pre- Registration, Sheryl and Shannon Wylie Welcome, Joe Long Entry Verification and Gayle Ketchum Rally Pre-Registration. The business meeting consisted mainly of the vote on the motorhome issue and election of the Officers. The motorhome Cont. page 2 Rallies P 6 Editor: Shannon Wylie

The new Officers are: John Stumpf, President; Joe Perryman, 1 st VP; Jim Schwerdfeger, 2 nd VP; Richard Gerard, 3 rd VP; Louise Humble, Secretary; and Ron Gordy, Treasurer. The next International Rallies will be held in Gillette, WY and then in Farmington, NM THCU members participated in contests and brought away the following prizes: 4 th of July Parade-original marching 2 nd Place, THCU Crochet-large 1 st Place, Raisin Crochet-small 1 st Place, Raisin Pet Show-Cat 2 nd Place, Wanda Ketchum Snap Photo-Airstream 2 nd Place, Joe Long Snap Photo-Animal 2 nd Place, Gayle Ketchum Snap Photo-Green Merit Award, Joe Long The Huron folks greeted us with welcoming arms. There were several articles on the front page of the Huron Plainsman and where ever you went folks would inquire about whether you were enjoying your stay and ask about the Airstreams and where you were from and going. There were 384 rigs on site plus the folks staying off site. Airstreamers made a difference! Pull tabs collected were 1300 lbs. plus monetary contributions. 538 stuffed animals. Church offering $ divided between Wounded Warrior, Salvation Army and the Safe Center. Wounded Warrior funds totaled $47, additional donations. $9,000 was collected and given to our special child, Ethan. There is now a provisional unit in Australia with 40 members. Happy Trails, Gayle TEXAS PROUD: Cowtown Rally Sept 11 th - 15 th Ft. Worth NEWS from the CROFTS: After a summer respite, let s all plan to head up to Cowtown for some Mexican food and steaks on the grill! You ll be glad to visit some old and new friends at Cowtown RV Park in nearby Aledo, TX. We need 10 rigs to qualify for the discounted rate of $25 per night and FREE use of the large clubhouse includes kitchen, fellowship hall for lots of dominoes and hen sessions, covered patio, and a large BBQ pit enough to cook all the steaks and burgers at once! For our convenience, Cowtown RV Park has reserved sites directly in front of the clubhouse. September is great weather for a rally in Ft. Worth!! Keeping in mind that we like to see the sights but we also like to have less structure, Cowtown Rally offers Thursday, Friday, and Saturday morning activities that include tours of the Ft. Worth Mint (free), Bass Performance Hall (free), Stockyards Herd, Cowtown & Sundance Square shopping, and Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame museums. After lunch together, the afternoon is open to your own entertainment: historic home tours, zoo, Botanical Gardens, Texas Motor Speedway, Cabela s Cowboy Stadium, Ranger Stadium, Dallas West End, Dealey Plaza, or a good ol nap! We have literature on most of the places of interest. After 5PM happy hour, we will plan on light camp dinners, followed by dominoes, exaggerated fish stories, and fabulous desserts! Whether your interest runs from cultural artistic museums to Western historical heritage, you will have a great time at your Cowtown Rally. Everyone invite a fellow Airstreamer and let s have a great turnout!! This is pay as you go: NO money upfront. Please let us know by August 10 th that you plan to rally in Cowtown!!! YALL COME ON!!! 5 Thought to Carry You Down the Road: Sunshine Report and Prayers Jim Schwerdfeger continues to have problems with his leg. Prayers are requested for Gayle s brother, Bill Groff, who has pancreatic cancer. If you know of a member who needs to have prayers or congratulations extended, please call Mary Ann Bunke or Gayle. BRAGGIN GRANDMOTHERS Zephyr Marek reports: Ryan is finishing his Eagle Scout project and will become an Eagle Scout in September. Alanna was awarded the English Award at her school and was commended on her star test. Andella was also commended on her star test. Jeremy is taking swimming lesson and doing real good. Gayle Ketchum reports: Stephanie Ketchum did very well at the National Shoot in Nebraska; she took several 1 st and 2 nd place ribbons and she also took 2 nd place overall. Grandmothers: let s do some more bragging. Send me stories of your loved ones and I will include in the Newsletter. I am sure most of us enjoy gifts, and I want to tell you about a remarkable gift I heard about the other day. As I understand it a girl had a problem with her eye, the doctor may have been inapt or perhaps the condition was untreatable. At any rate the girl became blind; she did not let the blindness crush her; partly because she had a wonderful gift. She was a whiz at composing hymns and sharing them with others. One day she boarded a train bound for a town just 28 miles away. A young man also boarded the train and took a seat adjoining the gifted girl. He was a young pastor headed for the next town and he was worried. He knew what he wanted to preach but he had no hymn prepared for a worship service. On learning of the young man s distress, the girl composed a hymn before the train had arrived at the station just a few miles down the tract. That girl s name was Fanny Crosby and the hymn was entitled To God Be the Glory. The Church where Nancy and I attend uses a hymnal that includes this hymn as well as others by Fanny Crosby; for instance, Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross plus several other well-known titles. So, I guess the big question is have you discovered your God given gift and shared it with others today? See you Down the Road. Dick Westley 5 56
