1 DESERT ROADRUNNERS NEWSLETTER VOLUME: 35 ISSUE: 8 FEBRUARY 2018 From our President Page 1 February B-Day & Anniv. Page 4 From our 1 st Vice President Page 1 Tombstone Agenda Page Rally Calendar Page 2 Tombstone Registration Page 6 Maintenance Tip Page 3 Roper Lake Agenda Page 7 From our National Director Page 3 Roper Lake Registration Page 8 From our Secretary Page 3 Anniversary Celebration Page 9 From our Treasurer Page 4 Miscellaneous Page 10 From our President Sharon Wilson Happy 2018 New Year! January is almost gone and Rich and I are wondering what happened! With the flu and out of state visitors, time swiftly flew by. February will go quickly, too. The January Rally at Casa Grande Bluegrass Festival was so much fun. Irvin and Pat Klawitter were wonderful hosts for the event in the absence of co-hosts Mercados who were unable to host due to illness. We welcomed Bob and Connie Jarvis to our club as new members. They recently moved from El Paso to Green Valley. I know you will be seeing them soon at an upcoming rally. Much information was shared during the Chapter business meeting which is found elsewhere in the newsletter. Please make note of all the due dates on the various future events and happenings. You will not want to miss out. Of course, January birthdays and anniversaries were celebrated. What a coincidence that our new member, Connie Jarvis, would have a birthday on the same day as mine! A trip to the dairy farm and to a local restaurant satisfied the intellectual needs or appetite for us. A special invitation by the Klawitters was made to Mel and Ronnie (local bluegrass singers) to entertain us one evening at our happy hour. I don t think they realize how much fun they provided for us. The February rally is in Tombstone. The Whaleys, Besslers, and Hanson/Snyder continue to add activities to this full agenda. Please note the due dates on this rally February 10 th. Remember, it is high season. And last, the 35 th Chapter Anniversary Celebration. Registrations are due March 15 th. I hope to see many of you at these upcoming events. Travel Safely. From our 1 st Vice President (Rally Master) Terry Whaley - The Rally schedule was presented to the members at the January Rally and voted to accept the schedule. The schedule follows: 1
2 Rally Calendar July Gillette WY, FMCA (early security) September Social (restaurant or someone s house) October Road Rally to Las Vegas, NV November 28-Dec Catalina State Park, Tucson, AZ December Jan Cochise Terrace Benson, AZ January Quartzsite, AZ (Brenda or Dry Camp) February Lost Dutchman State Park, AZ March Bullhead City, AZ April Pima Fair Grounds, Tucson, AZ May Road Rally to Santa Fe, NM 2
3 Maintenance Tip-Rich Wilson For those of us that use our motorhomes throughout the year, cold weather or hot weather, we are aware of the importance of leak-tight cabins. There is an interesting article I found while browsing past issues. The article was written by Gary Bunzer (the RV Doctor) in March of It is titled Finding Water Leaks. The title confused me (not hard to do) because I thought what would be more obvious, if there is water spraying out a fitting or tube, it must be leaking. The article is about finding areas where rain, or other, can come inside your coach. It involves pressurizing the inside of your coach and looking for escaping air, etc. The article is found by searching the Back Issues section of the Family Motor Coaching Magazine online or /4037-finding-water-leaks.html. FROM OUR NATIONAL DIRECTOR RITA MOORE FMCA has redesigned its web site which just opened this last weekend, so sign on and try it out. FMCA has hired a design firm to refresh the magazine. The unveiling is planned for May 2018 issue. The name of the magazine will change to Family RVing to reflect FMCA s expanded membership. One change of note to chapter leaders is that starting with the May issue, the Association Calendar (Event Calendar) will include the two upcoming months of chapter rallies and not rallies taking place during the month listed on the cover. The National Rally in Gillette, WY will be July and the Desert Roadrunners have agreed to provide early security, which means we will be arriving probably July 14 or 15. Please let Terry Whaley and I know if you will be attending. You can register now and mark on your registration Early Security for one or both of you.
