Chaplain Nevin Brubaker opened the meeting with a reading from Proverbs 19 verses 1-5 followed by prayer. Secretary s report The minutes were distributed via prior to the meeting and paper copies were made available at the meeting. The Board had an opportunity to review the minutes and were asked if they had any additions or corrections. One correction, Tractor Pull hook fees should be $ Motion: Bill Reber Vote: Unanimous Second: Butch Biesecker Status: Approved Treasurer s report Janice Glenn presented the treasurer s report. Motion to approve the Treasurer s report with changes: Motion: Butch Biesecker Vote: Unanimous Second: Dave Adams Status: Approved COMMITTEE REPORTS ADVERTISING: Kathleen Hazzard reported that she was contacted by Where & When for a quarterly ad, the cost is quite expensive and given the choice the board agreed that they would rather spend the money on other advertising opportunities. Art Astle discussed adding a Watch Our Smoke t-shirt, similar to the shirts sold at The Buck It was discussed and Kathleen said she would 1

2 speak to the T-Shirt folks about a proof with the Rough and Tumble logo on the front and Watch Our Smoke on the back. The board asked for a proof. ANTIQUE AUTOMOBILES: No report ANTIQUE TRACTOR COMMITTEE: Art Astle reported that the F-12 has been worked on and is running. BLACKSMITHS: Art Astle said that he spoke with Russ Jenkins and had some phone calls asking about the cancellation of Blacksmith Days, some of the callers feel unappreciated. Butch and Norm are going to look into getting some assistance from the blacksmith association. BUILDING MAINTENANCE: Nevin Brubaker reported that Mike helped him replace the sky lights on the steam building lean to. Tomorrow he will be putting tin on the bleacher benches. Additionally the furnace needs to be removed from the farm house basement, he will need help with that. There is a new furnace that has to be installed. CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT COMMITTEE: Ray Fleetwood reported that they had a good turnout at spring steam up. Ray is working on the steam shovel. They have formed a chapter and are going to name themselves Keystone Antique Earth Movers CURATOR: Dave Adams reported that he is working on a few donations one being an IH plow. He doesn t have a list for the sale yet but he assured the bard that he would have one for the July meeting. Several people asked about working on some of our small hit and miss engines, he forwarded them to Paul Stevens. There are two walk behind mowers that are offered for donation, Dave will contact the person who would like to make the donation. EQUIPMENT & MAINTENANCE: Norm Gay has been working on the lawn mowers to get them ready to mow. The water truck is in the process of getting ready to work. A crane specialist is coming to look over the mobile crane. The people movers should be getting prepared, John Deere uses two in July and then all of them for the August Show. The Allis Chalmers with the mower is in desperate need of repair and it may have reached the end of its life. Additionally, the little diesel JD 430 they would like to put the mower deck back on that tractor for a backup mower. FEATURE EXHIBIT COMMITTEE: To date, there are two Rumelys, a 6 and an 18, being hauled in to the August show. FINANCE COMMITTEE: The audit has been completed and the paperwork is at the accountant. FOOD COMMITTEE: Bill Reber reported that there will be lunch tomorrow, Schatz Food Service was pleased with the turnout from Spring Steam Up and IHC Show. GIFT SHOP: Kathy Hazzard reported that she will be in the gift shop tomorrow for the work day. Jim Weist is making a base for the cabinet that was donated by David Deardorf, it will be used as a display cabinet for books, crocks and other items. 2

3 GROUNDS COMMTTEE: Art Astle reported that Johnathan Reihl is the new grounds committee Chairman. Send him a message that he has to have three (3) people on his committee. Harvey Bashore reported that the mulch in the back field is ready for whoever needs it on the grounds. Dave Adams will begin tearing up the driveways for dust control. He will be putting more down in front of Large Gas Engine and the Kitchen. GARDEN TRACTOR SAFETY COMMITTEE. No report HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE: No report INSURANCE COMMITTEE: No report INTERNET SALES: Janice reported that there were no sales LARGE GAS ENGINE COMMITTEE: Bill Hazzard reported that we had a good Spring Steam Up, they replaced the water pump that supplies cooling water to the Lillibridge Building. The Cooper ran both days. MACHINE SHOP COMMITTEE: Bud Burdy reported that they had a good Spring Steam Up. MODEL BUILDING: Don Sadler reported that they will be preparing a pad for placement of the new compressor. They can use some able bodies to help move concrete on Saturday morning. PULLING COMMITTEE: No report. SAFETY & SECURITY COMMITTEE: No report. SHOP COMMITTEE: No Report. SHOWS COMMITTEE: Kathleen Hazzard reported that the admission building has been installed at the north gate and it is great!!! The shows committee chairman has resigned and the position needs to be filled, Bill Reber and Harvey Bashore have both declined the position. For the 2014 shows the committee will work together to get the show completed. SMALL GAS ENGINE COMMITTEE: Paul Stevens reported that the engine feature in 2014 will be Pennsylvania Engines. The feature for 2015 will be Briggs and Stratton and Maytag. They have not chosen an engine for STATIONARY STEAM: Tom Mauro reported that during the Steam Up they had issues with the control valve and he will be rebuilding it tomorrow. Jim Conte had questions about the electrical supply to the boiler room. There was a great discussion that although it is efficient at this time there is always the possibility that it will stop working and will need to be replaced. Tom and John DeSante have reviewed what is there and they feel confident that it is safe and secure. STEAM COMMITTEE: No report. 3

4 WATER COMMITTEE: Jim Conte reported that he will be getting the water supply hooked up to the First Aid Station. Additionally he will be making up drawings of the underground water piping and if anyone wants to work with him he will be in the pavilion near the pulling track on Saturday afternoon. WHISTLE: Art Astle would like to get the next Whistle out a week earlier than usual so that it is received by members before Reunion. He is trying to encourage our older members to reach out to us to help them get their machines running. ONGOING BUSINESS: None Steering Committee Meeting: President Astle reported that they discussed the rebuilding of the sawmill building, it is currently down, the committee is working the company to get the new building erected before reunion. Jim Conte had a proposal for Rough and Tumble to become a Terlyn dealer (this is achieved by purchasing in case quantities) with the intent of selling it in the Gift Shop. Art would like the board to think it over and to make a decision at the July meeting. There is no minimum purchase annually, the museum has to be certain that it is not considered Unrelated business income. Janice is going to call the accounting firm to be certain that it is not a conflict. Waterloo Boys: Harvey Bashore reported that Ivan continues his journey across America, he is at the John Deere Plant today. Waterloo Boys will be at Fairmount homes for Heritage Days and on Fathers day weekend they will be at Paul Klein s final show as well as Wilhelm s show in Delaware. IH Club: No report FINANCIAL REQUESTS FOR THE MONTH: Norman Gay has requested the funds to purchase a weed whacker. He has gotten one price of $329.00, however he has the option to purchase it through his employer which will reduce the cost to $287.00, he is looking at a Model FS 90.. Motion to approve purchase a weed whacker and gas can at $ or less, Motion: Matt Lerch Vote: Unanimous Second: Don Sadler Status: Approved NEW BUSINESS: Request from West Lampeter Fair for two steam engines from September They will supply transportation, coal and water. If anyone is interested, please see Harvey Bashore. Jim Conte discussed steaming food for the Kinzer Fire Company during Reunion. He is concerned that he will not have enough staff members if they want to steam food all day. The shows committee reported that they have not discussed this matter with KFC to date but they will mention that if they want to steam all day the fire company will have supply personnel to assist and they will be required to be steam school graduates. 4

5 Art Astle is appointing John DeSanti and Tom Mauro to form an Electrical Maintenance Committee. PUBLIC COMMENT, ANNOUNCEMENTS and CORRESPONDANCE: President, Arthur Astle wanted to thank all committee members and board members who participated at Steam Up. The show was very successful and he was very thankful for all their help, Fox Chapel was very pleased and they would like to come back again next year. Thank you to Harvey Bashore for taking the President of Coolspring Power Museum, Clark Colby, and one of his friends California on a grand tour of our museum. This occurred with very little notice and Harvey stepped up and did a great job. Bob Humphreys donated some framed drawings of Cooper Engines, Bessemer Engines and Cooper Bessemer Engines via Okey Moffatt. I sent Mr. Humphreys a thank you letter which pleased him enough to offer to donate additional framed drawings. Roger Kriebel is working with him to get these drawings. WellSpan Blood Donor Services sent Louie Frantz a letter thanking him and the museum for donating 15 pints of blood which are donated in Joy s memory. Kathleen Hazzard stated that she has been asked to purchase new flags. Does anyone know how tall our flag pole is? New flag pole is 30 feet and the front flag pole is 20 feet Thank you to Bill Reber, Gary Ravert and Nevin Brubaker for unclogging the grease trap and clearing the line in the kitchen. Eileen Stevens said that she was approached in the gift shop during Steam Up by a gentleman who asked why the engine that is in the Stationary Steam building foyer does not have the information board which explains that it was once used in the White House. The staff for that building will look for the sign and make an effort to make sure it is posted during reunion Butch Biesecker reported that David Kroa, our former chaplain, suffered a devastating head injury following a fall from a ladder in December of
