4 Page 4 CRUZ NEWS DUANE S WORLD By the time you read this, Back to the Fifties will be just a memory, hopefully, a good one! A few days ago, I opened up my mailbox to find my BTT50 s worker s cards. Wow, I didn t think I signed up for so many jobs, as there were 8 of them! The last few years, Rose has gotten into the fifties thing and has a worker card of her own. I may have to find a place in our house for extra closet space to house all of our free tee shirts. Even though I talk a lot of riding our lawn chairs all weekend, talking smart and enjoying the scenery (please add your idea of scenery here), it is rewarding to get out of that chair and do some jobs that help the show be as great as it is. As I have said before, most of my worker cards involve the model show, because the young people entering their models are the future of this hobby! Come to think of it, some model car show entrants haven t seen their teenage years in decades. You re never too old to sit in the comfort of your home putting together a model car just like the real car you had back in the sixties, or a car you wish you had back then or at the present time. Nice thing is, you don t need garage space for these, and you don t get grease under your fingernails. Be prepared, though, the wife may complain about the paint fumes wafting about from when you are painting your work of art! Editor s note: To fight the just mentioned paint fumes, and being the frugal guy that I am, I designed my own paint booth using a plastic storage box and a bathroom fan. It works well and a lot cheaper then the ones sold for 200 bucks! If you read this column last month, you learned that we were going through a lot of stress finding a safe place for my mom to live. She made it 96 years taking care of herself, but it was time she let someone else take over that matter. We found a nice nursing care center (they don t call them nursing homes any more), to place her in, and so far so good! We have to go back up to close out her apartment at the end of the month, and that will be a little hard. We will also be coming back to Minnesota with a truck load of stuff which includes boxes of photographs which go back to the WW II era. You don t throw that stuff away, and in another 20 years, that will be my daughter s problem, chuckle, chuckle. It s amazing how things change in such a short time. It seems like a short time ago we were complaining about the snow in mid April, and now, here I am, sitting at my computer typing away with the AC humming merrily along, and the thermometer says it is 94 degrees. I worked hard the last week or so getting our yard under control, and some odds N ends done on Little Darlin getting her ready for our thirty fourth yearly trip to the fairgrounds on June Look for us there, and I ll either be riding the aforementioned lawn chair, or hanging around the model show which is in the back of the grandstand. See you out there somewhere! DB Editor s note, 6/28/18: BTT50 s is history and I had a good time! Lil Darlin ran flawlessly, and I bet that over 100 photos were taken of my window card that says, Owned by a little old lady who beat the hell out of it. I take great pleasure sitting in my lawn chair watching the crowd strolling by. Many of them point to the sign and let out with a chuckle or take their phone out and get a photo. The Fifties is a happening and it s all about having a good time! Our daughter and her new husband came to the show on Friday evening to take dear old dad out for a burger and fries. We walked around the grounds quite a bit, and one thing happened that was really neat. A gentleman was there with his 1913 Model T Roadster. He was really proud to show off his car for the kids, including cranking it up so they could hear it run. When I say crank I mean crank, as electric start didn t come out on the Ts until around The kids were also impressed when he told them that in 1913, the top, windshield, and horn were all optional! I made sure that by the time the kids left the fairgrounds that evening they were experts on the location of the gas fillers on 56 & 57 Chevrolets. If you have a car guy for a dad, you have to humor him a little and pretend you are amazed by his vast storehouse of automotive knowledge. Thank you Back to the Fifties for 34 years of good experiences and plenty of memories!

Ed Sanders reported that his wife, Laurie, recently spent two days in the hospital, and she is home doing fine. TSS Business: Karen Keenan reported that the TSS flyers are available to be handed out. Ron Willson will have a box of flyers in front of his car at Back to the Fifties for anyone wanting to take one. Karen also reported that the TSS tee shirts for this year are brighter then in past years. Sponsorship is down from before, and members are encouraged to seek sponsors or let Karen or Tim Hanna know if they have any ideas for new sponsors. Door prizes are also needed. Any members with items that could be used for door prizes should have them by the next meeting. Tom & Marcia McIntosh will be in charge of door prizes. The worker list is out. Members should review it to see if their work shift information is correct. Any yellow spaces on the list mean that the job hasn t been called for. Duane Barclay brought up questions on the radios and golf carts. It was agreed to keep the numbers on both the same as last year. Duane will call a golf cart rental in Lakeville to inquire on price and availability. Tim Hanna reported that Karen Keenan will need help chairing the TSS in Any interested member can contact Karen or Tim to volunteer. Tim also has six large TSS posters mounted on foam core that would work good as displays at car events. MSRA News: None The next meeting will be at Apple Valley Ford in Apple Valley on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at 7 p.m. A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Karen Keenan, seconded by Keith Biers, and the motion carried. The meeting was adjourned.

With the Wednesday car guys which consist of members of the Southern Cruzers and Wanderers car club, the process is pretty much the same except that the car guys will drive miles just to get a free lunch.
