Nozomi OHTSUKI (NGB Corporation chome Nishi-Shimbashi, Minato-ku, Tokyo JAPAN) Abstract: Mr. Monty Hyams started the British Patents Report in 1951, followed by the Belgian Patents Report. CPI started in 1970 was one of the most sophisticated documentation services in the patent field. A fragmentation coding making use of the 960 positions of the punch card was developed by Mr. Peter Norton. The coding system has been developed and improved to the New Chemical Coding. Derwent Online database service started in The Derwent online database service initially covered 24 patent issuing authorities, while it now covers 40 countries and authorities. The database became first available on SDC-ORBIT in 1976, while Japanese users could first connect to the database on December 1979 when it was made available on SDC-J. They are now available on DIALOG, QUESTEL-ORBIT, and STN.
