1 THE SHASTA ELK Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks EXALTED RULER S MESSAGE My hope for all is that everyone is doing well, despite the summer's challenges. We all pray for the fires to cease and rain to come. To all preppers: I'm probably preaching to the choir, but just in case, let's talk about fire contingency plans if one happens to hit closer to home. You need a GO BAG. This would include, but not limited to, easy to use clothes for several days, medications for a month or more, good quality face masks made for smoke control, a gallon of water for each person per day. You should have water for several days. Along with all that, you would also need a first aide kit, flashlights, and, yes, good old fashioned cash. You should keep your gas tank topped off at all times. Dried food for a week or so is always a part of what you might not think of when leaving. All should be kept in a cool dry environment that is easy to access at a moments notice. You should have emergency service phone numbers. You should also plan on another form of communication other than cell phones, like walkie-talkies. These past fires have proven how quickly cell phones may become useless. There should be more than one evacuation plan, along with organized spots to rendezvous with family and friends. A list of your immediate health care needs in case you may be rendered unconscious for any reason. It is always important for first responders to have this type of information so they can administer your correct health care needs. We want to thank all those that participated in the Pacific Trail First Annual Beer Both. I would encourage all to join many of the committees that the Elks have to offer and help our community. Our Friday night get together at the lodge has been a success, so we have voted to keep this event going through the month of September. Remember that pot luck can be brought in to share with the lodge. I'm looking for a little cherry pie. Hint, Hint. Events that the Elks Lodge needs some assistance on are for hamburger/hotdog lunch set for the Saturday before Labor Day (Sept. 1st) and hamburger/hotdog benefit for Hornbrook/Carr fire victims which has been tentatively rescheduled for September 29th. Please contact Tony Ginocchio for both events through the lodge We need your HELP! Let's all stay strong and united as we make our way through the rest of the summer and early fall together. Enjoy yourselves and stay safe. Thank you Ron James, Exalted Ruler Updated lodge By-Laws (March 2018) are available at the lodge office.
