Day 2 Joshua Tree National Park/Lake Havasu Hit the road and drive to Joshua Tree National Park which is known for its spectacular desert plants including Joshua trees, cactuses and Mojave yuccas. This California desert region is also famous for striking rock formations and towering mountain ranges. Cross the Colorado River to Lake Havasu. Day 3 Grand Canyon We turn north towards one of the world s seven wonders, the Grand Canyon. Here we have some time to enjoy a hike, take an optional helicopter flight and soak up the breathtaking views. Days 4-5 Las Vegas Today we travel west through the Kaibab National Forest and onto Route 66. From there we cross the Mojave Desert and reach Las Vegas. Enjoy the nightlife of this glittering city. Day 2 Key West Travel along the scenic Overseas Highway to the turquoise shores of the Florida Keys and reach Key West, where you can go snorkeling, scuba diving, take a glass-bottom boat trip over the spectacular coral reef, or just swim and relax at the beach. Day 3 Key Largo/Homestead We stop at Key Largo, the longest of the Florida Keys, on our way back to the mainland. Day 4 Everglades National Park/Naples Enjoy time exploring the Everglades National Park. This slow-moving freshwater river is the largest remaining subtropical wilderness in the USA. Alligators, snakes and sea turtles are common sights in this amazing labyrinth. How about an optional airboat ride? Then, it s on to Naples, the trendiest vacation spot on Florida s west coast. Days 5-6 Fort Myers/Orlando Journey to Fort Myers, with its 70 varieties of palm trees and many tropical flowers, and perhaps visit beautiful Sanibel Island. Days 2-3 Washington DC Meet your fellow travellers in the hostel lobby before heading out of the city. Stop at Philadelphia, where independence was declared in 1776, and take a peek at the Liberty Bell before heading to Washington DC. Your leader will show you how to set up camp for the first night before heading into town for an evening tour of the Washington monuments. Enjoy a full day to get out and explore Washington s many interesting - and free - museums and monuments. Head out on a walk to marvel at the White House, visit the Smithsonian Institute of Science or just stroll along the Mall. Whatever you choose to do, Washington DC never fails to leave an impression with its grand avenues and parks. Day 4 Finger Lakes Travel out through rural Pennsylvania heading towards the Finger Lakes region of New York State. Take a dip in the fresh lake waters - these are some of the USA s deepest lakes. Later there will be time to reminisce about your greatest moments of the summer around the campfire. Day 5 Niagara Falls Head to one of America s greatest natural wonders at Niagara Falls and be stunned by the sight of 2.5 million litres of water cascading every second. Get a personal view of the falls on the included Maid of the Mist boat tour. The roaring falls are sure to have a cooling effect even on the hottest of summer days. Days 6-7 New York Hit the road back to New York City and check into our hostel before hitting the town with your fellow camp travellers. This city never sleeps, so whatever you do is entirely up to you! Grab a slice of pizza and explore its eclectic streets by foot, enter a neon jungle in Times Square, find a quiet corner in Central Park or perhaps watch the sun set over Manhatten from the top of the Empire State Building - there truly is plenty to see and do during free time in New York. When staying at a campground, either in cabins or tents, we cook our evening meals together on a stove or barbecued over the campfire.
