1 See our web page at NEWS LETTER OF THE SUN LA KES ROA DRU NNE RS RV CL UB Roadrunner News March 2017 President s Message March 2, 2017 Wow! What a great rally in Benson. From the Asarco Copper Mine Tour to Tombstone, Bisbee shopping and historical museum tours, and Karchner Caverns, it was a great 3 days. Our thanks go out to the Wagonmasters.Bill & Susan Hatcher, Jim & Barb Clark, and Bert & Judy Geiger. Look for pictures on the website shortly. The Club sent out flowers to Judy Geiger who is on the mend from some medical issues at their primary home in Union, Washington. Husband Bert is watching diligently over her and Sally Walby is capably filling in as Treasurer while Bert is gone. Also, thanks to Sally for updating the roster to include details about everyone s RV which comes in quite handy when Wagonmasters are coordinating with RV parks about our attendees and their rigs and site requirements. We re still looking for a rally or two in the Fall and Holbrook, AZ with the Petrified Forest and the Meteor Crater or Camp Verde/ Cottonwood area with the Out of Africa wild animal park are two areas which are under consideration. We ll have some more details at the April monthly club meeting on that subject. With the Lake Havasu rally coming up and all the activities, restaurants, and shops in Lake Havasu City, I m sure we ll all be having a lot of fun and camaraderie in March. So if you haven t already volunteered to be an assistant Wagonmaster, please take the plunge and help out. We ll all be appreciative of your help. See you at the March 14 th meeting. Your President, Mike Skibo Editor s Comments: If any of the addresses or phone numbers listed in this newsletter are in error, please notify me. 3 March 2017 Page 3 Sun Lakes Roadrunners RV Club Board Meeting Minutes February 7, 2017 Mike Skibo, President, brought the meeting to order at 3:05 PM. In attendance were Bill Hatcher, Vice President, Bert Geiger, Treasurer, and Pat Prekel, Secretary. The slide presentation for the upcoming meeting was reviewed. Mike suggested that he possibly include in his message, information pertaining to the Club website such as how to register and use it. Mike will contact Glenn Smith to see if he can provide the information at the February meeting. Bert Geiger provided each person with a copy of two treasurers reports, one for rallies and one for administration. He will provide a copy to Mike so it can be added to the slide presentation to be used at the February monthly meeting. Mike encouraged Bert to discuss again at the monthly meeting what expenses are covered by the administrative budget. Bert reported that all annual fees have been paid and the audit has been completed. He also reported that there are still a few members who have not paid dues and those members will be removed from the roster. The Christmas Dinner/Dance was over budget so we may need to adjust the budget in the future. Other suggestions were: 1. Pick entrees that are more similar in price so it is easier to predict the total bill. 2. Not have the club provide wine. It was decided that the refreshments should be a budget item since our membership has grown so this year. Volunteers will be reminded prior to each meeting and advised as to the quantity of snacks to provide and that they can be reimbursed if they so desire. Bill Hatcher discussed the Benson Rally stating that the deposit has been paid so the rally is considered full. Bill was having a difficult time with golf scheduling so Mike suggested he send a list of attendees to everyone going to the rally so people can hook up with each other on their own to schedule activities. Mike will be bringing a checkbook to the rally so the bills at the RV park can be paid. Mike reported that there has been one cancelation for the Lake Powell rally so there is a spot available. Still need rallies planned for October and November
4 March 2017 Page 4 Mike Skibo brought up the Spring Fling. Possible dates for this event were discussed and April 2 nd or 9 th were determined to be the most appropriate. Bill will contact the HOA to determine which of these dates are available and arrange for a contract to be signed. At the February meeting Bill will enlist volunteers to plan the event. In the past, chicken, water and ice have been provided. Attendees bring a dish to pass. At the March meeting, the volunteers will provide sign-up sheets for appetizers, salads and desserts in order to try to balance the amounts of each provided. We will also need volunteers to organize the games. The budget for this event in 2016 was $ but the expenses were only $ Mike said it is important that the club set up some canopies to provide extra shaded areas near the ramada. The club will also provide serving tables, plates and utensils but attendees will be encouraged to bring their own table service. It will need to be determined what is in the storage area. Attendees need to bring their own chairs and any beverage they wish to have besides water. Mike Skibo finished the meeting by discussing the organization of a nominating committee for new officers for next year. Three new officers will be needed. Pat Prekel will remain as secretary. Suggestions for nominating committee members included Al Wilsey, Larry Rix, Bob Stephens, Wayne Wheeldon, Ron Doggett, Greg Zarnick, Leonard Meyer and Ed Carlstrom. Mike will call these people to organize a committee meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 4:10 PM. Respectfully submitted, Pat Prekel, Secretary

The resort is Playa Bonita, RV sites are $25 29/ day depending on the location. Exit Rally, California Central Coast, Sally Walby, June There is a waiting list for this rally. Attendees must be Elks members. Quartzsite recap, Leonard Meyer. The rally was the largest ever. The rally masters served 70+ people for the big meals and did a great job. Leonard thanked all others who helped out during the rally and made it easier for the wagon masters to handle the large crowd. There was $ donated back to the club which was not spent by the wagon masters. We still need October and November rallies planned. Mike Skibo mentioned a possibility of going to Holbrook in November. Treasurer s Report A short recap was given by Mike Skibo since Bert Geiger was not present. 6 March 2017 Page 6 Equipment - Greg Zarnick has revamped the charge out form so that is on one simplified page. When equipment is needed, please call Greg several days to a week ahead to schedule pick-up. Wagon masters should return equipment clean and in working order. If equipment needs repair, please indicate that to Greg when returned so he can repair or replace it. Greg said that there are 3 large roasting ovens for club use. Leonard Meyer complimented Greg on his diligence in maintaining the storage room. Refreshments Pat Prekel thanked the volunteers who signed up to bring refreshments. She also indicated that there is now money budgeted for that. If you wish to be reimbursed, please give your receipt to Pat Prekel. New Business Spring Fling is scheduled for April 9, 2017 at Sisk Park. The club will furnish chicken, ice and water. Bill Hatcher asked for volunteers to be in charge of Setup, Coordination of Games and Clean-up. At the March meeting there will be sign-up sheets for the food being provided by the attendees. Members are responsible for bringing their own drinks and table settings. TailTwister Jim Ruddy had a fun time collecting monies from people who forgot their badges, people who purchased new coaches etc. Pot O Gold Jim Clark was able to award five winners with the pots ranging from $22.00 to $ Announcement FMCA is hosting a rally at Rawhide March 7 through 10.
