The Big 5 sporting goods [ ] in Big Bear Lake usually sells fuel canisters. Big Bear City Post Office [open M-F 9-4:30, Sa pickup only 1-2; Big Bear City, CA Big Bear Lake Post Office [open M-F 8:30-5, Sa 10-12]: Big Bear Lake, CA The hiker-friendly Big Bear Hostel [bigbearhostel.com, ] is located about 100 yards SE of Lake View Drive and Knickerbocker Road in Big Bear Lake. 6, Interstate Highway 15 and Cajon Pass [about 1/2 mile N of the PCT] is a busy interstate highway intersection with a McDonald's restaurant, pay phone, gas station mini-mart and a hiker-friendly Best Western Motel [ ]. WATER ALERT: Next northbound water after Cajon Pass may be Guffy Spring in 22.3 miles. Hiker Heaven is usually open March - June and in the fall for southbounders. The PCT follows the road through the center of Agua Dulce. For many hikers, Lake Isabella is the last grocery store for more than 250 miles [except possibly the small grocery in Lone Pine or the trip out to Bishop]. Bus service runs between Onyx and Lake Isabella and W to the city of Bakersfield. Lake Isabella Post Office [open M-F 10-4] Lake Isabella, CA In the past, some hikers have reported bad experiences at the Kern Motel. The Lake Isabella Motel [ ] may be the better place to stay. Onyx is a very small community 17.7 miles W of the PCT on Hwy 178 with a post office [ ], and the Onyx store [oldonyxstore.com, ] with sandwiches, snacks, and drinks, no overnight stays allowed. Bishop is a large town on Highway 395, 42 miles N of Independence, with a full grocery, outfitter, pharmacy, laundry, motels, ATMs, restaurants and anything else a hiker might need. 5 857.7 Muir Trail Ranch [muirtrailranch.com/resupply.html], 1.5 miles NW of PCT on Florence Lake Trail, is a private guest ranch that accepts hiker resupply packages [$] and sells a few emergency supplies. Packages are delivered to the ranch via pack animals and have detailed shipping requirements. The package fee for 2018 is $80.00 for 25 pounds. 7, Vermilion Valley Resort [edisonlake.com, ] is a hiker-friendly resort 6 miles W of the PCT with a small store, restaurant, tent cabins, showers, and laundry. You can reach VVR by a ferry boat [$, 9am & 4pm, if the lake is not too low] that lands 1.5 miles SW of the PCT or hike 5 miles along the N shore of Lake Edison to VVR or via the Bear Ridge Trail. VVR accepts hiker resupply packages [$]. The lodge offers hostel-style lodging, showers, laundry, and a hot tub. Hot meals may be purchased. The Lodge does not accept resupply packages but the Soda Springs Post Office is 1.9 miles away. The Belden Post Office closed in Hwy 70 is a narrow, curvy, dangerous road with no room to walk safely. The Braatens of Little Haven will hold packages during June and July [donations accepted]. 12 Dinsmore's Hiker Haven [dinsmoreshikerhaven.com, ] in the town of Baring 23.4 miles W of the PCT are trail angels [donations accepted] w/ camping, showers, bathroom, laundry, indoor hiker dorm with bunks, and kitchenette. Hitch W to Baring on Hwy 2 to the Baring Store [now closed, mile marker 41]. From the store go over the tracks and take the first left and down to the Dinsmore's Hiker Haven sign. The Dinsmores no longer accept hiker packages or mail. All mail should be sent General Delivery to the Skykomish Post Office.
