1 Appendix B Listening Session I & II Summaries Lextran COA Listening Session I September 8, 2014 Lexington Main Public Library Conference Room A 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Comment Summaries Schedule / Service Area Route 3 Why doesn t this route go to Kroger s? Give bus priority over cars to shopping centers and popular destinations. Increase incentives to use bus over car/parking. Buses need to go up into the shopping center it is hard for old people to do a lot of walking. Bus should go to Polo Club after six (Rt 10). Kroger Tates Creek bus stop for the working, shopping, elderly handicap people. I noticed a change in the time limit for the transfers is longer now, but could be 2 hours to be downtown longer. More air for the drivers. Origins / Destinations / Routes Promote arts events in Downtown on Lextran WWW site and trip software / AVAIL. Reroute #5 to turn East on Wilson Downing and go down Landsdowne Drive to East Reynolds. Road and then to US 27 / Nicholasville Road and then to downtown. Change the Versailles Route on Sunday back to how it was. More sidewalks at bus stops. Better service on Sunday..combo routes are not working for people to need to get to work or go to church. Provide sidewalks and improve pedestrian safety at all stops. Reroute the #10 Hamburg Route on Sunday to Costco. Route 11 service on Lake Park by fire station and Mercedes dealer. Route 1 11 night service detours instead of traveling Richmond Road all the way this is inconvenient.

2 Signs / Shelters / Stations Incorporate more art at stops and the transit center. Improve pedestrian safety at all stops. More benches need, especially Richmond Road / Shell Station / Lake Park. Free wifi. Need shelters that add to urban design and fabric. Change city / local / state laws that allow advertising to increase revenue for shelters. More shelters. I want the bus to talk more, in different language. Private rides advertised. Driver education upgrade: TSA Ed., security Ed upgrade. Multi hub system. TV/radio ads need specific route info. (ex: RT 31, you don t have to go downtown). Central Point is willing to transfer to Lextran. Waller Ave is not reachable service area for Lextran garage for me. Frequency / Hours of Service Longer service on Sundays. Earlier morning start (M F) to accommodate workers. Longer Sunday service. Hours are OK. Routes and the Connector bus routes are ok. Employees at Keeneland and Turf Catering (about 4,000 employees). o Transit dependent. o Weekend, Sept and Nov and Derby Day need better bus service. o Employee schedule 5 to 6 AM to 9 PM, would like better night service. o Connection at transit center causing issues with employees catching bus. o Issues with finding the correct route to transit center not enough information. ADA / Paratransit The new process of wheels application. People would learn how to ride the city bus. Serve Rogers Road. Like the Connector Bus routes. Waller Ave is not a good location to notice, to bring donations, it s not in a good location It s not noticeable.

33 Lextran COA Listening Session II November 5, 2014 Lexington Main Public Library Conference Room A 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM Comment Summaries On Wednesday, November 5, 2014, Lextran, LAMPO and Consultant team members held the second Listening Session related to the COA project. The meeting was held in an open house style format at the downtown / main Library from 3 PM to 7 PM in the basement conference room. Representatives from Lextran, LAMPO and the consultant team were in attendance to greet participants, explain the displays and engage in a discussion and answer any questions related to the proposed service changes. Twenty people signed in as attending and there were seventeen returned survey forms. Lextran publicized the meeting on their WWW site and facebook page. The displays included an overview of what a COA is as well a project timeline and several boards depicting existing routes and proposed route changes, with deleted route segments highlighted. The Lextran service area was broken into 1/4s and four display boards were used to depict the routes and the proposed service changes. Participants were invited to view the displays and engage the staff with any questions or comments. A blank oversized notepad was used to write down any free form comments or suggestions and a survey form was produced to take more formal responses. Seventeen surveys were recorded as being completed or partially completed. Of the seventeen responses returned, most indicated they are regular riders (13 of 17). Some highlights from the surveys included: There were a consensus of respondents who wanted more service / extended service on the weekends, especially for the Route 10 Hamburg going to Polo Club (more service on nights and weekend) and to Costco (new routing / stop to actually go to that side of the roadway near COSTCO entrance) along Man O War Boulevard near the Hamburg area. Other respondents mentioned the need for more shelters and benches at stops and the need for service to continue on the Masterson Station Route 20 and to continue the Route 31. Areas in need of more bus services included Beaumont near the YMCA as well as the Palomar Area and the new health clinic (which is being served by a new route as proposed through the COA), and adding buses to Nicholasville Road (Route #5).

34 From the free form response pages, the following comments are highlighted as most relevant: Route 13 Route should go to the shopping center more directly and possibly be extended to doctors offices at 3084 Lakecrest Circle Route 23 Nicholasville Road Express is too limited needs more trips Route 10 Hamburg needs to run 7 days a week, especially to COSTCO and Polo Club and there needs to be shelter at the Wal Mart stop Route 12 eliminating the segment from the transit center to Red Mile will be a major inconvenience The afternoon rush hour needs an additional run around 6:30 PM There needs to be a stop at the Sam s Club on New Circle Road There needs to be a shelter at South Broadway and Elaine Drive In summary, the biggest concern / suggestion of those in attendance who expressed an opinion was to make the night and weekend service more like the M F daytime service as much as possible.
