1 Cedar Rapids Corvette Club B e y o n d t h e G l a s s May, 2017 From the President Spring is traditionally a busy time of year for all of us. There is a seemingly endless list of tasks to be done. It s not all work though, it s time for walkers, bikers, golfers, boaters, and of course Corvette owners to get out there and enjoy. Reward yourself after a hard day of work by taking a cruise through the country on these longer warm evenings. Somewhere out there is an ice cream cone with your name on it. A group of your fellow club members were out at the Cedar Rapids airport on April 25 to welcome home Honor Flight Veterans. The next flight is Wednesday, May 24 and the CRCC s own Jerry Elm will be one of the honored veterans participating on that flight. Coming up soon (May 21) is Cruising for Camp Courageous. All hands on deck for this one to make sure CRCC continues to win the Cub Participation Award. We just barely won last year so please enter a car or two even if you can t attend. They go by the number of registered vehicles affiliated with a club. (The car does not need to be there or be a Corvette) It only costs $15 to register a car. It s a great cause and you get a free t-shirt. Also it s an opportunity to see cool cars and cruise together with 35 other Corvettes over to Monticello. You can easily register on-line at: Be sure to fill out the Club Affiliation with Cedar Rapids Corvette Club. Also, our Cruising the Avenue Car Show is June 10 on the Hawkeye Downs Speedway. Get involved to help if you can. Register your car whether you can go or not (it s a donation). Check our website regularly as Larry updates the rapidly expanding calendar of events with timing and details of these activities and many others. Just a reminder of upcoming changes to the content and distribution of the CRCC newsletter After this May edition, newsletters will no longer include advertisements, picture pages, birthday and anniversaries or a listing of contact info for club Officers and others. The newsletter content will be pretty much limited to a message from the President, Minutes of the previous month s meeting, Minutes of any other official club meeting, a Governor s report and any other articles submitted on time and in a suitable format. The newsletter will then be posted under the Newsletter tab of the CRCC website. The newsletter will no longer be postage mailed or ed to club members. A letter outlining the reasoning for this change was ed to all members back on January 13. The letter was also read at the February CRCC meeting and was included in the meeting minutes published in the March newsletter. If you haven t already, and would like to have your name added to the Years of CRCC Membership database for future recognition please try to determine the total number of years you have been a member. Please report the result for you and your spouse (if applicable) to me at: clthompson623@gmail.com Drive safe and enjoy, Chris May, 2017 Beyond the Glass Page 1

6 Car show time is nearly here! Charity Car Show Checklist... Here's a list of some very basic things that you should be doing in support of our annual charity car show, to be held at Hawkeye Downs (on the track!) on Saturday, June 10 th. 1. Register your car(s). $15 gets you a loaded goodie bag, t-shirt, dash plaque and possibly a $5-$20 door prize certainly a bargain! Do this even if you can't make the show. We'll get your bag to you. And you'll feel better having supported the show and our 4 local charities. Meeting site, at 6:30. You can pick up your worker shirt and personal goodie bag at that time also. We need many hands and it won't take long. 6. Check around the house and garage, and see what you might be willing to part with for the Garage Sale table. Bring it to the bag stuffing or the day of the show. Our new venue 2. Sign up to work at the car show! There is a list out there, updated every so often. We will help you to understand your job responsibilities. We will get you a worker shirt, if you don't have one already. Contact Dick Butschi at captart66@fmtcs.com. 3. Attend, if possible. Bring your checkbook or some cash. Great deals at the Silent Auction or Garage Sale tables. Never know what you'll find. 4. Pick up at least 1 book of raffle tickets for the Klein Tools collection and Romantic Weekend for Two, from Randy Sanders, or ransanders@msn.com. You can sell them to family and friends, or buy them in the name of kids, grandkids or put your own name on the stubs. 5. Attend the goodie bag stuffing on date to yet be determined in the Chevyland service bay, our 7. Bring your pop-up canopy to the show or bag stuffing so we can use it for shade (as it's going to be a great, sunny day for our show)! Make sure you tag it with your name, so we can get it back to you, later, if you don't take it home with you after the show. 8. Bring a lawn chair to the show. We'll have some bottled water iced down for you workers. 9. Check with a local business for charity car show support. It may be in the form of a gift card or discount slip at their business. If every member got 1item...wow! May, 2017 Beyond the Glass Page 6
7 10. Tell at least 1 non-club member about the show and that they can print a registration form by accessing the club's website home page. Again if each member did this... There are more things-to-do that could be listed, but this is enough for now. And if you only did 1 of the tasks listed, you still would have made a difference a positive contribution to the show your show. So what are you waiting for? Submitted By: Dick Butschi CRCC Welcoming and Thanking Team awaiting arrival of another Honor Flight at the airport. Chevrolet Trademarks used with the written permission of General Motors At the NCCC West Region banquet, Garland Groom (right) was recognized for placing 8th overall in Regional Competition and John Watertor for getting into the 200 point club. Applause!!! Congrats to Grandma Sue & Grandpa Tracy! May, 2017 Beyond the Glass Page 7
