Thank You Robert Great Pics! A WORD FROM YOUR DIRECTORS WHERE ELSE CAN YOU GO AND HAVE THIS MUCH FUN?? We wish you all a very happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year. Take a look at some of the pics above.. these were all taken just during the month of December Wow! We did a lota stuff. What a great time we had last Saturday when Chapter FL2-A West Palm came up and had lunch with us at Sunset Grill. Thanks so much for coming up, guys. This is what GWRRA is all about. All of the things we are doing are the results of the efforts of our great Chapter Team. These folks do a ton of work so you guys get to have the fun. Thanks to Don Irgens, our Treasurer, Brad Mohr, our Membership Enhancement Officer, Dave Beuker, our Ride Coordinator and ACD. Be sure to give them a word of thanks when you see them. They deserve it! Good work everyon on the new ride line up proceedures. AS a reminder here is how it goes. The groups will go from left to right so the first bike will be Group one, the second bike to the right will be Group 2, etc. Simply line up behind the leaders. Each Group should have no more than 7 bikes. The Trikes should be in the right track and there should be a two wheeler between the Trikes, if possible. If you see you are in a group that has too many riders then move to the other group and reposition yourself accordingly.

DAVE & JAN BEUKER A.C.D. AND RIDE COORDINATOR Unfortunately, we did not hear from Dave in time for the newsletter But I am pretty sure that he would love to have your input for ride ideas in the upcoming season. For those of you who are Road Captains or would like to become Road Captains please see Dave. We need Ride Leaders and Tail Gunners. PICNIC RIDE SCHEDULED FOR IS POSTPONED- DON T BRING A LUNCH Our picnic ride to Oscar Scherer State Park that was originally scheduled for Wednesday, Jan 3 will be temporarily postponed due to weather. This State Parks offers very little in the way of shelter or concessions to support our picnic should the weather turn a little nasty. The weather forecast shows that it is supposed to be about 60 degrees with a good possibility of rain. We will go to Nicholoa s Family Restaurant in Wauchula instead (weather permitting). This destination is subject to change if the Ride Leaders want to go somewhere else so come prepared to go for a regular ride instead of a picnic run.

FL2-F INDIVIDUAL OF THE YEAR BRAD MOHR MEC CORNER LOTS OF FUN COMING UP IN JANUARY It s 2018 and time to start a new year of riding and socializing with people just like us who would rather be on a bike instead of in front of a 70 widescreen. We re riding to Oscar Scherer State Park near Venice on our 3 January Picnic Ride. It will be $4 a bike for admission. I will hand out park brochures prior to the ride. Be prepared to bring your own grub, do a little relaxing at the lake and maybe taking a nature walk. We also are starting our monthly FL2-F Bowl-a-Rama at Bowland in Port Charlotte on the 3 rd Sunday, 21 JAN from 2:00 5:00pm. At $7 for shoes and all you can bowl in three hours, you can t beat it. There will be prizes and good fun. Need a headcount to reserve enough lanes so RSVP!! FL2-F Monthly Pizza Night is also being planned more to come. This month we also have our 2-nighter St. Augustine Trip, JAN. We ll be staying at the Days Inn Old Town, 1300 Ponce De Leon Blvd., St. Augustine, FL Rates are $67 per night with a GWRRA Discount Code: and a call to (904) This will be a fun trip, a good route, great food and some history thrown in for a little culture as well. I have St. Augustine Sightseeing Guides but only ask for one if you re going please. And don t forget that we are having our Chapter Gathering on the second Saturday in January 13 JAN. Make sure you have your blue Rider Rewards coupons for the monthly drawing! PLEASE HELP RECRUIT SEE ME FOR MAGAZINES AND BIKE TAGS. And finally, gear is available so fill out your order forms and get them back to me. I just placed my second order and expect 2 week turnarounds. A couple of us will be going to the GWRRA Florida District Conference on 6/7 JAN. If anyone has anything they would like me or Glen to bring up at the conference, just let us know. Brad Mohr, FL2-F MEC, or mohr.bradley@gmail.com PIZZA NIGHT UPDATE: We will begin our Pizza Nights on the 2 nd Thursday of the month at 5 PM starting Feb 8 th. These evenings with friends will be held at Bocca Lupo Coal Fired Pizza at 1900 Tamiami Trail in Port Charlotte. (Near Lowes) MAGAZINE RECRUITMENT: I receive back issues of Wing World for dropping off at medical, dental or any other business that requires you to wait and read old back issues of Good Housekeeping. Please pick up some Wing World magazines with our Chapter s business card affixed to the cover. Just grab one from me and leave an issue in their office s magazine rack to help us get out the word. You could also leave one of your old issues as well.

We will also be planning some formal recruitment drives involving the establishment of recruiting booths at some of the local festivals and other activities. I will be compiling a list of possible locations for these recruitment opportunities in the near future. Please be willing to help out when the time comes. THE PRIORITY IS TO RECRUIT NEW CHAPTER MEMBERS AND WE NEED YOUR HELP TO GROW THE CHAPTER - PLEASE HELP YOUR CHAPTER!! Any questions or comments can be directed to Brad Mohr, or mohr.bradley@gmail.com THIS IS YOUR CHAPTER- GET INVOLVED AND LETS HAVE SOME FUN! The secret word is Limerick CHAPTER CONFERNCE District Chapter Conference will be held this year at the Hilton Orlando/Altamont Springs at 350 Northlake Blvd, Altamont Springs. Everyone needs a chance to see that the group is a good fit for them and they like what we do and the fun we have and the training we offer. However, after riding with us a few times, you do need to make up your mind and join or go somewhere else. The benefits of joining are terrific. We don t want to be harsh but if you are going to take part in our activities we need your support. We want you to be here and all brands of bikes and trikes are welcome. We need your support in coming and participating in our activities and our Chapter Gatherings, they really are a lot of fun. Get involved and be a part of it. No one here gets paid, everything that you put into the Chapter and a lot more comes back directly to you..fort MYERS OPEN RIDES Tuesday Mornings are FL2- G Open Rides. 10 RIDER EDUCATION Pete Siford and Lori Gavin have stepped up to become our Chapter Ride Educators. What a great job they have done. They have become certified ITCP Instructors so they can train us in all the new GWRRA training modules. They presented the seminars we were able to put on for you at the Welcome Back BBQ in January. Great Job Guys! Sadly, we will have to be riding this season without Pete &Lori as they had to return to the Great Cold North for personal reasons. Hi all! I came across the following article on the AllState Insurance site. For those who are in South Florida, just smile, say Thank You Lord, and go for a ride, REMEMBER AGAT All the Gear All the Time. For the rest of us in the frigid North, specially if you re planning a New Years Ride, you may want to look at this a little closer. May you all have a Happy and Prosperous 2018 Pete Siford & Lori Gavin 5 Tips for Riding Your Motorcycle in the Cold by Vicki Sanfelipo December 2, Comment Safety Tips Even though winter is here, that doesn t mean you can t get out for a nice ride on your motorcycle. But staying warm when the weather gets cold can be a challenge for motorcyclists and roads that look safe can sometimes surprise you in the shadows. As is true for most motorcycle rides, being prepared makes all of the difference. 1) Packing Your Bike I am always prepared for a ride. One saddlebag has all of my wet-weather riding gear (and tools), and the other has my cold-weather riding gear (and more tools). One item I would not be without regardless of whether I m dealing with wetness or cold is what some people call elephant ears. These are leather or vinyl protectors that snap on my engine guards. They cut down on wetness and air that scoops up from the front of the bike and help keep my feet warm and dry.

2) Preparing for the Cold Knowing more about wind chill will help you prepare for what to wear, and it s not just about the speed of the current wind conditions. For instance, when you re traveling 40 mph, 70 degrees feels like 68. But at the same speed, 40 degrees feels like 27. Sun also makes a big difference did you know that sunshine makes a difference of 15 degrees in perceived warmth? 3) Building Warmth in Layers As your body temperature decreases, so does your ability to think and act quickly. A preoccupation with being uncomfortable can slow your reaction time. Layering your clothing is an essential skill for keeping warm and avoiding those risks. There are many places to get gear designed to build layers. Layering without becoming too bulky to move efficiently is something all motorcyclists strive to master. You need three layers a wicking layer, a warm layer and a windbreaking layer. Typically, your leather jacket can act as two of these layers (warmth and wind breaking). The shirt underneath should be specially designed to wick perspiration so you don t end up with a damp shirt that sucks away warmth. Long sleeves will help keep wind from blowing up them, and your gauntlet gloves will aid with that as well. While my leather jacket provides a degree of wind-breaking capacity, when it is particularly chilly my rain jacket adds a layer and helps block the wind. I can add the rain pants with boot protectors if desired. In the saddlebag with warm clothes are my Thinsulate gauntlet leather gloves, chaps, neck warmer, balaclava, heated vest and hooded sweatshirt. 4) Heating Your Extremities Personally, I would not be without my heated handle grips. Even with gloves on, they help keep my hands warm. If I keep my hands and the core of my body warm, I m 75 percent comfortable. You can lose a great deal of body heat from your head and neck area, so a neck warmer and a helmet will help to keep that heat in. Wool socks and a good pair of riding boots will keep your feet warm and dry. 5) Watching for Slippery Pavement You need to be extra cautious about riding on pavement that has frost or ice on it. There is no safe way to ride on two wheels when the pavement is icy.

Even if the sun is out and the pavement appears dry, you will need to consider shaded areas as potentially dangerous. Coming into a curve and hitting a shaded area with ice can happen without warning, and even the most skilled rider could end up facedown on the pavement. Wet pavement can be slippery, but frost and ice are even more slippery! Ride safe and keep the rubber side down. footnotes: Allstate Insurance Company is not affiliated with Vicki Sanfelipo.
