1 Holiday Rambler Recreational Vehicle Club AZ & NM AZ & NM HRRVC Newsletter August 2016 Volume 2, Number 8 AZ & NM State Rally is Approaching Don & Aina Dickerson at last year s State Rally Plans are coming together, programs are being secured, activities arranged and of course menus planned. In just over two months our rally will begin in Wickenburg, AZ at the Community Center. You do have just days to enter the rally drawing for a $100 bill. See registration form on page 5. Your registration will also aid our chef de cuisine to prepare the correct amount of food. Programs will focus more upon local sources, upon the talents and experiences of our members, rather than from RV suppliers. Topics such as: U s i n g y o u r smartphone camera - Hiking the canyons with family - The works of a woman saddle maker - Cooking for two - History of Wickenburg - Baking a Cheesecake - Benefits of Tai Chi for seniors - and more. Fill out that registration form and mail it in. We have plenty of space for you and your RV. Donation in honor of James Warner The HRRVC AZ & NM State Council has approved a charitable donation to honor Jim Warner. When asked at the recent Celebration of Life, Carol Warner indicated that an appropriate charity should be The American Cancer Society. A $100 donation has been made to the Tucson office in Jim s name. Volunteer - become involved at State Rally It is nice to drive into a rally site, park and enjoy all of the events. It is even nicer to become involved at that rally, becoming part of the team creating a successful event. Each of the chapters are being asked to assist with the serving of meals and other events. A letter has been sent to Chapter Presidents with that schedule. We are seeking individuals who will assist in the following positions: Parking, beginning on Mon. 24th Setting up and maintaining the book/ puzzle/cd/dvd/etc. table Wed. 25th - Fri. 27th Setting up of tables & chairs on Mon. 24th and AM on Tues. 25th Registration table starting at 1pm on Tuesday 25th Filling the Welcome Bags - AM of Tues. 25th A person to assist with the Cook-off, various duties. Thur. 26th Persons to introduce each of our guest speakers Persons to make and check the coffee, water & lemonade stations - each day. To assist contact Thom F e i t a t e i t h e r : o r thomfeit.az@aol.com. A reply will be sent. 2 To celebrate over 50 years of being in business we re giving away this luxury motor home this month! To be in with a chance of winning simply: SHARE, LIKE & COMMENT WIN Then like our page! Jo Theart, REV Director of QC Holiday Rambler Recreational Vehicle Club AZ & NM Free Luxury RV Facebook Scam Share, Like, comment Win - then like our page! Perhaps you have see this under the a photo of a luxury motorhome. During these last weeks, several of these in different formats have appeared on Facebook. A friend sent me a message and urged my participation in wining a free RV. According to Snopes.com - the web checker of urban legends, In July 2016, a scam promising a free "Luxury RV" to people who liked, shared, and With a consistent commitment to raising quality standards, REV Recreation Group, our parent company, announced another expansion of its facility footprint in Decatur, IN. The goal of the center is to improve upthe customer delivery process and criteria already in Pictures taken from Facebook post of Free Luxury RV commented on a Facebook began to circulate on the social network Where's the harm in it? One REV Opens Quality Assurance Center place by many RV dealers. The new Quality Assurance Center will put each unit through a rigorous 193-point inspection process. The new quality assurance process includes a test drive of the coach, a rain bay test, inspection of interior and exterior fit and finish and a Page 2 reason is "like-farming." Facebook's algorithms in particular emphasize popular content, and therefore gathering "likes" and "shares" receives a higher rating or ranking. Like-farmers will gather clicks, which denote popularity, then change the original content and replace it with something else (a scam lure) to bypass Facebook constraints. Even though we would all like a new, bright, clean RV, just recall that old adage: If it is too good to be true, then it probably isn t. complete function test on all electrical systems, plumbing systems and AV equipment. Lenny Razo, VP of Sales, said, Our goal is to deliver the best product in the industry. The facility is strategically positioned next to the REV customer service center in Decatur. Carol Warner (far left) along with Hilda & Ray Nichols and Larry & Barbara Laursen Celebration for Jim Warner Recently a celebration of Life for Jim Warner was held in Tucson. About forty of his friends from his RV adventures to his days in the Navy to his career at Raytheon. A few stories were shared focusing on his love of being with people, his humor and dedication to doing an honorable job. We are blessed when upon occasion, our life intersects with individuals to whom one truly enjoys being around. Jim was such a person. While during these last months life played some cruel tricks, he always had that smile and was more interested in what you were doing than telling of his pains. Our love of Jim, his wife Carol and his family is unbounding. All are holding good thoughts for Carol.
3 Page 3 Volume 2, Number 8 Working with leather & making a saddle When one thinks of working with leather, the creating of chaps or chinks, and making of a saddle, it is a male that usually comes to mind. The town of Wickenburg has a number of these artisans, including Carson Palmer known throughout the Western United States for his custom made saddles. But we looked in a different direction - a woman saddle maker. Karen Lamontagne has a shop, just a block or two from our rally. She has a varied background, and the recession of 08 had an impact, but she will share that story. At our rally she will bring some leather items, perhaps some chaps and chinks that she crafts along with perhaps a saddle. The shop - Riata Saddles and Western Store - is tucked into a wonderful little shopping location that features shops along with an eatery. Great for lunch. Be sure to see her on Friday morning at 10:30. Oh yes, for the urban dweller, the difference between chaps and chinks - chinks are similar, but are shorter, typically hitting the rider below the knee but above the ankle. A pair of chinks, note the fringe and the leather tooling. How about some Cheesecake? While doing research as what type of craft classes would be of interest this year, a friend mentioned to Barb Feit, Why not show how to make your cheesecake? Idea taken. Barb will lead an active class of how to create three d i f f e r e n t flavors of c h e e s e - cake. Six c l a s s m e m b e r s will actually mix and put together three cakes. All will get a taste of the cakes that were p r e p a r e d in advance and the next day, those bakers will take away half of the cake they made as a thanks for their assistance. Cost of the session will be $5. Payment will be made at registration. An information sheet with all sessions and trips will be sent to all registrants in early September. Golf anyone? With the Wickenburg Country Club being about 15 minutes from our Rally site, we decided this year to see if there was interest in an outing to the course. Jerry Loomis has agreed to lead such an event, we just need to know how many would be interested. We would offer the outing on Tuesday (would require coming for early parking on Monday), or Wednesday midmorning. This will d e p e n d upon interest and availability at the course for The Wickenburg Country Club tee times. Details will be announced as soon as the amount of interest is known. Let Thom Feit know ASAP if you wish to join this golf outing, so plans may be firmed. Hidden amidst the rolling desert landscape in Wickenburg, is an oasis of green fairways and waterscapes. Often referred by many as a thinker s course, WCC accommodates players from the beginner to the experienced. Wickenburg Country Club is Wickenburg s original home of golf.

There are some TX references hinting of the Valley of the Dinosaur and the Paluxy river. The Lord is my park ranger I shall not want a space He maketh me to lie down in a dry, warm sleeping bag He leadeth me beside the still Paluxy river He maketh me soooo euphoric! Surely cool weather and clear skies shall follow me all the days of my life And I will camp in the tent of the Lord forever. Thanks Sharry for sharing. On a personal note: Barb and I shall be off for 10 days for trip to Aspen, CO as we celebrate not only cooler weather but also our 50th wedding anniversary.
