1 PVAMA NEWS Inside This Issue Annual Elections 1 Officers and Board of Directors Volume 14 Issue 3 March 2018 PVAMA ANNUAL ELECTIONS OF OFFICERS AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS On February 18, 2018, 24 members gathered at 1 pm at the Wood River Senior Center in Wood River, NE. Members enjoyed a pot luck style lunch. Membership 2 PVAMA Meetings 3 Prayer, Praise and the Lighter Side 4 Following the meal, the PVAMA Special business meeting was called to order at 2:15 p.m. by Vice President Roger Hanousek in the absence of the President. Up for election for President: John Howsden, for Vice President: Dennis Nelson and two for Board of Directors: Rod Brooks, and Sue Uhrich. An unanimous vote was cast. These are open meetings, meaning any member is welcome to attend. Ideas are always welcome. Contact the President or Secretary for the location. Wabash Ave, Hastings, NE dabeick03@gmail.com Membership Any member renewing their membership prior to the annual show, send your payment directly to the treasurer Ken Stein. If you are renewing your membership at the annual show in August, go to the show office to pay dues. Ken will then notify both the secretary & newsletter editor so they may keep their records up to date. Membership forms will be updated to reflect this change. Membership Fees to join PVAMA are $20 per year. If dues are not paid by October 1st, member will no longer be considered a member as per the by-laws. New members joining after Jan will have their membership fees extended to the 2nd show (i.e.: pay on/or after Jan 17, membership expires 8/18). This does not apply to members who let their membership lapse and then renew after January. 65+ Any member 65+ years of age may pay $150 one-time for a lifetime paid membership. (Non-refundable). 60+ $200 for lifetime membership 2 PVAMA NEWS pvama.org

3 Feb. 18, members signed the attendance sheet and enjoyed a pot luck lunch at 1 p.m. at the Wood River Senior Center in Wood River, NE. Thanks to Sue Uhrich for obtaining the meeting place for the meeting. Special business meeting was called to order at 2:15 p.m. by Vice President Roger Hanousek in the absence of the President. Meeting was delayed 2 weeks due to the weather on the 4th. notice and postcards were sent to members to advise of special meeting as per by-laws. In the absence of the secretary, Donna Wilton, said there had been no business meetings since August Dave Babcock moved those minutes be approved as printed in the newsletter. Joed Dibbern seconded and motion carried. No treasurer s report was given. Health Reports: Sympathy cards were signed for Delna Wempen of Minden, Jean Hermann of Hastings, Donna Axmann (Ed) of Ravenna and for Lisa and John Howsden on the passing of her mother. Donna Wilton is doing well with her new knees. Old Business: Donna mentioned that new memorial gazebo plaques would be added before the show for Richard Rathje, Donna Axmann and Carroll Seeman. Jack Flanigan asked why Steve Dyer would not be added. Reason being he was not a club member at the time of his passing. Discussion. Rich Wilton moved that Steve s name be added as an honorary member. Roger Hanousek seconded and motion carried. Discussion: It was agreed any previous club member who was not a paid up club member at the time of passing may be added as honorary member. Donna asked that she be given the name and the year of passing. Agreed by members present. Rich Wilton asked if Ken had received the total rent for the food concession trailer from last Aug. Sue Uhrich moved and Dennis Nelson seconded that Ken take care of this by the board meeting on the 27th of Feb. Carried. February Annual Meeting Minutes New Business: Dennis informed the group of the tractor show at the Phelps County Fair in Holdrege July 22 26, They will be in an enclosed building and secured. Would like more tractors to display. Belt buckles will be given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. Gibbon tractor show On the Bricks will be either the 1st or 2nd weekend in August. Club is invited to bring tractors. There will be a $5 admission and a food coupon will be given to participates. More information will be coming. Shelton tractor drive will be the lst Sunday in July, the 29th. Will leave at 9:30 a.m. and arrive back at the festival around 11:30. Drivers are encouraged to stay for the rest of the festival. Central NE Antique Tractor and Equipment Club will have a Toy Show March 4th (Sunday) at the Parish Hall in St. Libory. PVAMA will have their March meeting at this location at 1:30 p.m. Food will be available on site. Show starts at 9 a.m. with a $2 admission and a free raffle ticket. Al Babka is getting rid of all his JD toys. He and Diane will have a booth at the abovementioned Toy Show. If interested in any toys he might have, call him at or Diane at Items he does not sell will be gong to an auction in SD. Rich offered to give Sue the key back to her building in Glenvil. The only club equipment in their building is the AC Hi-boy and the IH Corn picker attached to Howard s Farmall. She said it was not necessary as the locks had been changed but she took the key anyway. Rich said the 2 tires on the dock would be removed as soon as possible. She mentioned that was fine but no hurry. Introduction of new members attending their first business meeting: Bill Taylor of Hastings, he is the sound man at the show; Marlyn Bates of Juniata, he and Larry Hassenkamp will be running the Garden Tractor Pull at the show; and Walker Rathke of Kenesaw; and Don Hanousek of Wood River. Machinery donation to the club: #6 JD corn sheller on a 51 Chevy 6 cylinder straight truck. The 2 pieces of donated by Kenny Gleason of Wood River and is currently stored at the farm of Roger and Sylvia Hanousek. John Howsden has a heavy duty running gear to put under the corn sheller for $200. Brad Harpham moved to purchase the running gear provided the sheller will fit on it. Dave Babcock seconded. Motion carried. Dave has a MM corn sheller for the show but needs 24 tires for it. Larry Holmberg also has one that is painted that will be used in the field demonstration area. It was mentioned that several members have MM shellers that will be displayed and Jim Buschow of Blue Hill will be bringing 42 pieces of AC tractors and machinery. Election of Officers: Office of President, Vice President, and 2 board member positions are open for election. Elmer Spurrier withdrew his name from Board of Directors. Dave moved that nominations cease and unanimous ballot be cast. Ken Stein seconded. Motion carried. New Officers for 2018 to 2020 President John Howsden, Vice President Dennis Nelson and Board of Directors will be Rod Brooks and Sue Uhrich. Show flyer Premium Sponsor and Equipment Loan paperwork was handed out to Jack Flanigan, Brad Harpham and Roger Hanousek. Others will be sent to Gordon Bredthauer, John Howsden and A.J. Boehler. Donna Wilton has hers. Justin Stein mentioned that anyone who helped with the Old Trusty Show (this includes shuttle drivers) is invited to their Appreciation Supper Feb 25th at the Legion in Glenvil. 4 Prayer, Praise, and the Lighter Side Delna Wempen, 82, mother of Mark, passed away Feb 6 th as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Funeral services were Feb 17 in Minden. Mark is an avid antique tractor puller at the show and has been for many years. Delna enjoyed every aspect of farming and ranching and had a good eye for farm animals, especially horses. In younger days she played the accordion while her mother played the piano for the School Orchestra for 14 years in Kearney. She helped start the Miller Dance Hall in Miller, NE and played at KRVN radio and NTV when they first went on the air. Delna was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, and her parents. She is survived by sons John of Minden, Mark and Kristen Wempen of Pleasanton, Rex and April of Minden, daughter LaFona Wempen and friend Robert of Overton, 7 grandchildren and other family members. Jean Hermann, 79, wife of Ted Hermann, passed away and funeral services were Feb 14 th in Hastings. Jean and Ted hosted the annual Antique and Collectors show on their farm west of Hastings in 1994 and They have always been big supporters of PVAMA. She is survived by her husband, 3 sons and 3 daughters Roger, Russ, Rodney, Rhonda, Roberta, and Robyn. A sister and brother and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Club member Donna Axmann, 74, of Ravenna, wife of Ed, passed away Feb 12 after a hard fought battle with cancer. Funeral Service was Feb 16. Donna and Ed had 2 children Diane and Jared. She graduated from Joseph s College of Beauty and worked at a salon in Ravenna. She also worked nights at Good Sam Center, 4 PVAMA NEWS Ravenna Grain and was a mail carrier for the Post Office in Ravenna. In the fall she drove the grain cart working alongside Ed in their custom harvesting business. She had 3 grandchildren and they have many wonderful memories of time spent with her. Donna and Ed have been active members of the PVAMA, Central NE. Antique Tractor and Equipment Club and NE Antique Farming Association, sponsoring Tractor Relay Across Nebraska (TRAN) and took part in the relay drives every year including many other drives in NE and SD. One of the highlights for Donna was the tractor drives she shared with Ed, especially in 2017 when they took part in the 150th Birthday for the state of NE with a drive around the capital in Lincoln. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Karen. Survivors are her husband Ed, daughter Diane and friend John Obermiller of Loup City, son Jared and wife Mona of Kearney and grandchildren Laura Axmann of Omaha, Rebecca Axmann of Grand Junction, Co and Sam Axmann of Kearney as well as other family members. Helen Blum, 97 mother of Lisa Howsden, passed away Sat. Feb 17 th. Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege is in charge of arrangements, services held Feb 22 in Alma. Lisa is the wife of PVAMA s President, John. According to John, his mother-in-law was in assisted living and doing well but experienced declining health after Christmas. After graduating from high school, Helen received her teaching degree and taught in rural school around Stamford and Alma. She married Ira Blum while he was home on break from basic training in April children were born. They owned and operated the Trading Post for10 years, she also drove a school bus assisting Ira as they owned and operated the Alma School Bus transportation System for 26 years. She was very active in her church and the Fay Cady Am. Legion Auxiliary Post. She was preceded in death by her husband after 73 years of marriage, her parents, 6 brothers and 1 sister. She leaves her 3 children Linda and Melvin England of Kearney; Steven and Christine Blum of Illinois and Lisa and John Howsden of Huntley, NE. 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and other relatives. From Lois Mohlman of Pauline: I wish to thank everyone for my recent birthday card shower, phone calls and visits. It was a pleasant surprise and really meant a lot to me to be remembered by the club members. I hope to be able to visit the show this year, it has been awhile since I have been able to come. Thank you again. From Donna and Rich Wilton: We sincerely appreciate the many prayers, thoughts, s, text messages and cards during my mother s short illness and passing. She touched many lives as a Sunday School teacher for 45 years, working in AWANA for 25 years and crocheting 430 sweaters and over 120 caps for children in 3rd world countries. She was working on a sweater when she became ill. She also crocheted prayer shawls, potholders and place mats, baby blankets, booties and caps for wedding and shower presents. In earlier days she worked with finer thread and crocheted many freestanding angels, snowflakes and doilies also for shower and wedding presents as well as for sale at crafts shows. Thank all of you again, it means a lot to have caring friends. The Lighter Side pvama.org

5 March 4th meeting The meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m at St Libory Catholic Church Parish Hall, St Libory, NE. In conjunction with the Antique Toy and Country Crafts Show that starts at 9 a.m. It is sponsored by the Central NE Antique Tractor and Equipment Club. $2.00 admission per person regardless of the time you arrive. Food is available. Joint Tractor Club Meeting April 8th at 1 p.m. Note change of date due to Easter. Joint Club Meeting held at Alda Community Center (east edge of Alda on Hwy 30 meeting room on the left of building). Pot luck lunch, beverage will be provided. Tentatively TRAN meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. with final details for route. All tractor clubs in NE will be invited and be prepared to share with the group about your upcoming spring, summer and fall activities. Fliers are welcome for others to pick up. Monthly Meetings March thru August the monthly meetings will be held on the first Sunday of the month at various locations. Watch the newsletter for the locations.
