4 President Tony The VP s Column The VP's Word By Rick Miller I recently had a conversation with club member, Sal Cruz. He talked about having get- togethers with other Corvette Clubs. Sal is also a member of Corvettes of Southern California. He suggested I meet with the president of that club and start planning something. I met with Dick Bottis, president of Corvettes of So. Cal. at the Corvette Corral, at the Long Beach Grand Prix. He is definitely a Corvette Guy. His current Corvette is a 2017 white Z06. The next week, our Club was having our third annual Wax your Corvette Day at Aero Wax Company in Bellflower. This event gave our Club a chance to meet Dick and talk further about a joint club event. We spoke about the idea of having a two Club picnic or outing. This idea of reaching out to other Corvette clubs in our area has been a thought of mine from the beginning. As we shook hands and left the wax day, plans were put in motion to have two or more Club events this year. Thanks Sal for suggesting this and spurring me on to follow through with a great idea. Tony Save the Wave April Trivia : In what year did the Corvette have a 305 cubic inch V-8? Corvette Time Line: October 1985: Corvette reintroduces a convertible model to the motoring Press at Yosemite National Park in California. Well the weather's warming up and the Corvette events are heating up as well. May 6th is Vette Sets Car Show at Ruby's on the pier in Redondo. It's not too late to join other club members at the show or just come out to cheer them on. May 13th is CSS at the ballpark, GO Angels! May 21st is CSS at the Muckenthaller Museum, a great day for our cars on display. Also on the 21st is Plastic Fantastic at Sea Port Village in San Diego. This is an all Corvette show limited to 400 cars on the peninsula. More beauty in one place is hard to find. June 4th at the Huntington Beach Library will find 2 car shows for your pleasure. The H.B. Concours d' Elegance, a judged show for street driven entries or Concours class cars and a People's Choice show held by O. C. Vettes. Both excellent shows for worthy causes. Also in June, Vapor Trail Vettes will host an Autocross event and last but not least by any means will be the Bash without a Bash held at Garry and Shirley's in Big Bear. Watch for more on this and other events on the CSS Events Calendar. Whatever you care to do, be safe, have fun and take some pictures so we can all share. ~~~~~~~~~~ Several months ago CSS members, who previously attended any of the Tahoe events, received an invitation to join the Corvettes of Fresno for a tour of Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks. 3 COF members who relocated to St. George planned and organized the tour including opening their gorgeous homes for all to see and enjoy. Nearly 40 cars, including 9 from CSS, cruised the red rock mountains of St George, Zion and Bryce. The sights were spectacular as was the dining and socializing. The group was split into 3 caravan sections and cruising was surprisingly easy and united. In addition to the National Parks, we visited the Tuacahn amphitheater for a backstage tour and Kolob Canyon for yet another cruise through incredible sites. We left temperatures in the 80's and experienced temps as low as 27 as our return journey from Bryce Canyon took us through Duck Creek on our way to 10,000 foot elevations and a bit of snow flurries before rejoining I-15 and descending back to St. George and near 80 degrees again. Check out the many pictures on our website from all around Utah. I'm sure you'll find the sites amazing. Rick

16 Corvette Super Shots ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NCCC PRESIDENT s MESSAGE APRIL 2017 Spring is in the air and summer is right around the corner. Events have already started in the warmer parts of the country. Have you made your plans to attend the 2017 NCCC National Convention in Bowling Green, KY? There is still time to register. Event limits have been increased and tours are being added as the response to a convention in Kentucky has exceeded expectations. Don t miss out on this convention as the events, tours, and parties planned are going to be a lot of fun. Five days in Kentucky in warm weather with the Corvette Museum, the Motor Sports Park, Beach Bend Drag way, and all the tours will for sure be a blast. August 25th, 2017, the last day of Convention in BG, the NCCC Charity Committee will be drawing a winner for a certificate toward a new Corvette or $40, cash. All proceeds from this raffle will go to St Jude Children Research Hospital. Don t miss the chance to support NCCC in its charity effort to help young children. Buy your ticket for the raffle prior to the May 5th NCCC Governors meeting and add a chance with a $10 Second Chance raffle to win $250 cash. The Second Chance raffle pays all expenses of the raffle to maximize the support for St Jude from the car raffle. Get together with your club at a club meeting and plan something to do as a group. Whatever it is I am sure you will have a good time. Even if only a drive and dine to a favorite place. Everyone likes to eat! Have fun and enjoy your Corvette and friends. Have a great spring! Dave Heinemann President NCCC

17 Where You Can Find Corvette Parts and Merchandise For those of you who have been into Corvettes for awhile most or all of the following will not be news to you, but for you relative newcomers to the love of Vettes this offering is being made to help you find the parts you may need for your classic or the trim add-ons you might want to buy to personalize your Vette or the clothing, gear, etc. you might like to own to show others of your interest in the sport. It s amazing just how many publications are out there that are dedicated to Corvettes and how helpful many of them can be. Following is a list and quick summary of the more popular catalogs that you might want to look into. Most of them are available for routine periodic mailing if you request it, and most of them have a web site from which you can peruse their offerings. Me, I prefer to receive the catalogs so that I can better see just what s out there I might not have not seen before. The three largest, most popular catalogs with the most items that are non- parts are: a. Mid America Motorworks, (800) ; b. Eckler s Corvette, (800) ; c. Corvette America, (800) Those publications periodically also publish catalogs geared specifically for a single generation of Corvettes so when they ask you for the year and model you drive don t be afraid to tell them. Then there are catalogs that are almost exclusively for parts, especially of older model Corvettes: a. Volunteer Vette Products, (865) ; b. J & D Corvette, (800) (located locally in Bellflower, CA). For trim and accessory items as well as clothes, furniture and the like, you should look at: a. Corvette Central, (800) They have an accessories catalog and a separate catalog of parts, etc., for each generation of Corvettes. b. Burston Marketing s Corvette Collection, (800) c. And finally, the catalog from the retail store at the National Corvette Museum, (800) In addition to the above, you might also consider visiting the show rooms of Corvette Mike s at 1133 North Tustin Avenue and West Coast Corvettes, 1210 N. Kraemer Blvd., both are located near each other in Anaheim just off the 91 freeway in Anaheim. They have a selection of GM authorized accessories and clothes for sale, as well as an indoor Corvette sales room with used road gems. Both also maintain service departments for installing accessories and the like and for general maintenance of Corvettes. West Coast Corvettes has a new catalog that was just released and is available for pick-up at the store. (Price is pre-printed on each catalog as $12.95, but don t be fooled, they re free - just ask for one.)

19 Connell Chevrolet helps sponsor our Corvette Club. They have been family owned and operated by the Doddridge family since 1989 when Paul Doddridge purchased the franchise from John Connell. Paul is still active with the dealership, but he also spends a lot of his time at his ranch in Montana. His son Wayne Doddridge is the active General Manager. Connell Chevrolet was first opened in the late 1950 s and was located in Newport Beach on Pacific Coast Highway. Then in 1963, they relocated to Harbor Boulevard in Costa Mesa. Connell has one of the largest new, certified, and pre-owned inventories in Southern California. If you re looking for a specific Tahoe, Silverado pickup, Corvette, or a late-model used car or truck, chances are, Connell Chevrolet has it. And over the years, Connell s Service Department has built a reputation fixing your GM vehicle right the first time and in a timely manner. They currently have more Chevrolet Master Technicians than most other Chevrolet dealers in the entire USA. When you go to Connell for service ask for Todd Mack. Todd has been a Service Consultant at Connell for over 20 years and is a recommended advisor in the Corvette forum. For you do-it-yourselfers, Connell Chevrolet has an expansive Parts Department. They are one of the largest wholesale dealers in the area. And if they don t have your specific automotive part on hand, they can probably secure it within a few days. Lastly, let s talk about the Connell employee family. To many, their employment at Connell is not a job... It s a career. Many employees including the sales, service and office personnel have worked at Connell for twenty years and more. Even the outside vendors who help to support Connell Chevrolet, have been within the Doddridge family for many years. Look for Wayne Doddridge next time you re at the dealership and introduce yourself. He is a family man with 6 children and supports the local community. He and Connell Chevrolet help sponsor Orange Lutheran High School, Crean Lutheran High, Costa Mesa High, Fountain Valley High, Estancia High, the Orange County 4H clubs, Newport Harbor Corvettes, Corvette Super Sports, Better Business Bureau, Auto Club, Costco, Los Angeles County Police and Fire Departments, the Orange County Fire Department, Costa Mesa Police, Newport Beach Police, Huntington Beach Police and Irvine Police. Connell Chevrolet is located at: 2828 Harbor Boulevard, Costa Mesa, CA Sales (714) Service (714) Parts (714) Website: In Other News: Corvette Super Shots typically meets on the fourth Saturday of each month with lunch afterwards. All are welcome to join! Editor s Note: rubypics@aol.com Hi everyone! Reminding everyone that I welcome pictures and extra articles from other members as long as you send them to me at least five (5) days before the end of each month. I especially need pictures and copy (articles) for events I do not attend! Thank you Ann, Nelson, Eric, Jimmy, and Tony for providing pictures! Thank you Eric for being my editor and helping me create this month s newsletter! If there are any birthdays or anniversaries that I missed, please me so I can correct it for the future!
