2 Minutes for HVMTC General Meeting at Charlie's Restaurant January 15 th, 2014 Meeting opened at 6:52 by President Doug Lested. Members attending included Doug Lested, Lou Schweizer, Mac & Diane MacPherson, Anne Tunnell, Dale & Eleanor Stanfield, John & Karen Pepe, Tony Bowker, Virgil White, John & Jane Alling, Scot Uran, Robert Millen and Vic & Stephanie Terrell. Doug lead the Pledge Diane assured the members that we have sufficient funds to continue, with a detailed report available to members. Stephanie spoke about the recent tour to the Orange County Tram Museum. There were several Model T's on the tour including two from the HVMTC, however several members were in moderns and semi-moderns! John spoke of his problems on the return trip but he did made it home without a trailer. The February tour will be to the Rancho Buena Vista Adobe in Vista. Mac described a very circuitous route to get there, with a short run back to Escondido. The March tour will be the Sierra Vista overnight tour, to date we have 18 cars paid up. The April tour will be to the Flower Fields, again Mac proposed a Model T route that sounds like fun. There was a general discussion about May & June tours but nothing set. Mac raised the issue of elections at the April meeting and the Installation Lunch in May to replace the regular meeting at Charlie's. Doug then ran the drawing, with the guess the day, week or month based on various pictures. As usual, each correct guess was rewarded with drawing tickets, the 50/50 drawing of $27.50 was won by Anne. Being no further business, Doug closed the meeting at 7:38pm. 3 Temecula HCCA Annual Tour, Note that for this month only, this was also the HVMTC January Tour. The HVMTC Tour started at the Park-and-Ride at I-15 and Hwy 76, then convoyed up to the industrial park in Temecula to meet the HCCA group. As time was a little pressing, Tony drove up to John Pepe's place and they went together to the HCCA meeting location. There was a lot of Model T's, a couple of Buicks and a three wheel Morgan. After the Annual Meeting of the HCCA group, held on the roadside while eating donuts and drinking coffer, Mac called a drivers meeting. It seemed a couple of instructions had been changed as this was not the location Mac had been given to start the tour! We all left, the only problem was Mike Judd was having problem getting his T started, however it didn't want to be left behind and suddenly roared into life. The Route took us up through old Temecula, then the older section of Murrieta. up Bundy Canyon Road to cross I-215, then to Mates Rd, which unfortunately is not marked, so most of us missed it and we had to turn round at a somewhat busy intersection, however we all survived. Once at the Tram Museum, we had to find the correct entrance as we were to park inside the Museum Grounds. The cars all parked by the shed which contained the 36" track steam locomotive #2 donated by Ward Kimball. To me, this was the highlight of the tour. The locomotive was used by Ward for all the hundreds of drawings he did for Disney, which probably got most of us interested in mechanical things in the first place. It is so cute and the Museum staff are working to make it operational once again. At present the braking system is under repair. Ward, and his co-worker Ben Sharpsteen, were both wonderful artists, this is a sample of their work from a front cover of the Jan/Feb 1972 HCCA Gazette, just look at the detail, Keystone Cops, Model T's, damsels in distress and of course the engine. Ward and Ben made many covers for the Gazette, I always loved their horses as they looked suspiciously at any Model T, just wonderful, such a talent. I believe Ward was the principle artist at Disney in the days when it was ALL drawn by hand. Of course being a tram Museum, there were many tram rides available at quite modest fares and most went for rides, except Heather who had her first bought of travel sickness in a similar tram in London many years ago... Following the Tram Museum, most of us went off into nearby Sun City for lunch at a well known Mexican Restaurant. Great food but service on our table was a little slow. Following lunch, the fast boys decide to return down I-215, but John and I returned by then regular streets to avoid the Freeway. February 2014 Hidden Valley Model T Club Commutator Page 3

It was very exciting. I offered to run on and return with the trailer, but John decided he could drive slowly and "stop" using the reverse pedal and the emergency brake. We made it back their home, when we all had a cup of tea and then felt a great deal better. A wonderful days touring, only wish it had not been so exciting at the end. 6 Springtime Tour to Sierra Vista March 8 thru 11, The Hidden Valley Model T Club is holding a four day tour to the Sierra Vista region of Arizona March The tour will tour cost is $95 for a car, driver & one passenger and $41 per additional passenger. The schedule is: Saturday March 8, 2014 will be a simple run from Sierra Vista to Bisbee, the route out will be through Hereford, which is quite flat and a more direct route back which includes a long hill out of Bisbee, mileage is about 60 miles. Sunday March 9, 2014 will be run north from Sierra Vista north to visit the Kartchner Caverns, then on to Benson, then south to Tombstone and then direct back to Sierra Vista with a distance of 80 miles. Again there are no serious hills. Monday March 10, 2014 will be out from Sierra Vista to Patagonia for lunch through Sonoita, visit an auto restoration shop and a museum, a little dirt road and a ford then back thru the Army base over some really narrow, quiet but paved roads, with a distance of 90 miles with no serious hills. Tuesday March 11, 2014 will be a run from Sierra Vista out to Douglas, with lunch at the historic Gadstone hotel and back to Sierra Vista for a run of 110 miles. We will get a reduced room rate at the Windermere Hotel The tour is open to all Model T's (and Model A's if you must).
