2 Following the success of last year s events, we have put together a brand new Peak District challenge for The Peak District is the oldest and arguably most beautiful of England s national parks, and our challenge will be based in its wonderful southern area. Over two days we will twist our way along the little known but wonderfully tranquil and picturesque Manifold Dale, and the length of the legendary Dove Dale, taking in some of the most spectacular scenery of the Peak District. 3 Day 1: Saturday Manifold Dale After a hearty breakfast we will set out through the lovely village of Thorpe, and down to the River Dove. We follow the river s path, cutting through meadows and the stunningly picturesque village of Ilam with its grand manor house and church. We then cross the River Manifold and gently climb Old Park Hill where we gain gorgeous views across the Hamps Dale. The path now gently leads us back down to the riverside, which we join for the next section of the walk up to Wetton Mill. Ahead lies Sugar Loaf hill and our second ascent of the day reveals our destination. The Beautiful village of Hartington complete with country cafes and traditional inns to rest and relax in after a challenging day. Distance: 12.5 miles, with 320m (1100 ft) of ascent. Day 2: Sunday Wolfcote Dale, Mill Dale and Dove Dale The coach will pick us up bright and early, returning us to where we left off yesterday. The challenge continues with a gradual warm-up, crossing over easy farmland, then dropping us into the stunning Wolfcote Dale. This limestone valley begins as a gentle hollow in the fields but soon sharpens, eventually forming towering cliffs above. Our route then emerges in Alstonefield, where we ll find a lovely country inn for a quick stop. Now it s through Mill Dale and on to the famous Dove Dale a dale of unrivalled scenic beauty. Meandering along the River Dove, every step reveals spectacular limestone features - Tissington Spires, Ilam Rock and Raven s Tor, to name just three. Every step of the way back to Thorpe Cloud is an absolute delight, then it s just a short stroll back to the hotel to put up your tired feet. Distance 9 miles, with 140m (450 ft) of ascent. 4 Surrounded by stunning countryside and set in a charming village location, the Peveril of the Peak is a comfortable Country House that provides a perfect base for our weekend. From here we shall have our every need catered for. All the bedrooms have a TV with digital radio, hair dryer and complimentary tea and coffee making facilities, as well as boasting plenty of rustic character. For our complete relaxation the spacious common areas lead to a licenced bar, which opens onto a terrace with a delightful view of the surrounding countryside. Wi-Fi in all common rooms means you can keep your nearest and dearest updated with your progress, and a proper boot and drying room will help us to be ready for any kind of weather. Friday Night We will aim to start the event by meeting everyone in the common room on the Friday night at 6.30pm. You will have the chance to meet your fellow participants and make some new friends. You ll meet your guides for the first time when you all sit down for dinner at 7.15pm. After dinner we will have a quick chat about the weekend, then you re free to spend your evening as you please.
