This year, The Apple Valley chapter of Beyond the Yellow Ribbon was voted to receive the $1,500 award at the club meeting in November. At the November Beyond the Yellow Ribbon banquet, held at the Apple Valley Legion club, 2019 club president Jerry Forness presented the check for $1,500. The photo and caption below shows how this event was featured in the Apple Valley/Burnsville/Eagan Sun This Week newspaper. From left: Southern Cruzers 2019 President Jerry Forness presents a $1,500 donation to Apple Valley Beyond the Yellow Ribbon President Paul Chellsen, as the club was also represented by Southern Cruzers secretary Duane Barclay, and car club member Denny Borowski who nominated Beyond the Yellow Ribbon for the charitable award.
4 Page 4 DUANE S WORLD As usual, due to modern technology, I am working on this issue of the Cruz News from deep in the Ozarks just south of Branson. From our room in the Big Cedar Lodge, which is high up on the hill, I can look down and see Table Rock Lake and the beautiful surroundings. This is about our ninth trip to Branson, and the third in a row to be here for veteran s week and all that it offers. Our friends from Ohio arrange for lodging through their time share program, and we are happy to meet up with them, making sure they don t get lonely. We just got here yesterday afternoon, so it s still unclear on what shows to see and where to eat. High on the list of things to do is the veteran s parade on Sunday. The parade is about 1 1/2 hours long. I think I have mentioned it before, but Branson loves its veterans, and it s nice to be welcomed. For most of us, it s a big difference to what we experienced when we came home back in the late sixties. Oh, I almost forgot to mention, my friend from Ohio and I go back 67 years to the U.P. of Michigan! Fast forward this bus a little. Our Branson trip is now history and we are back home. We all had a good time, and the weather cooperated for the veteran s parade, although just a little chilly. We came prepared with warm clothes and blankets. As expected, the veterans watching the parade were warmly welcomed by the parade marchers. My hand was sore from shaking so many hands of young people which included scout troops who came up thanking us for our service. The parade, along with the free meals offered to veterans, and the good shows to see, help to make for a very enjoyable experience! Now we re back home for the duration, and time to get ready for the holidays. I did my last mulch session on the lawn a few days ago, getting a little wet as it started to drizzle just after I started. I was bound & determined to get that done and the mower Stabilized and drained for the winter. I still haven t put up the outdoor lights around our house. It s been too nice! I usually wait until it s 10 degrees, with the wind blowing at 30 knots, and a mini blizzard going through the area before I get the ladder out to start this project. It always gives the neighbors something to talk about! Just a friendly reminder, don t show up for the meeting in December. We won t be there because of the holidays. See you in January. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! DB Editor s addition. Thought you would like to see some of the old vehicles in the Branson Veteran s parade. Photos by the editor
