1 VOLUME 22, NUMBER 11 Board of Directors News 1. The Finance Committee is seeking new members. If this is of interest to you, please contact the PMP office. 2. PGC, is continuing with tree replacement and general landscaping work, keeping pace with the mowing schedule. 3. The Board of Directors is very concerned about the erosion, storm run off and areas being affected by excessive water flow. We will be seeking expert advice from Wetlands Solutions Inc and Frederick County to develop a long term, comprehensive storm water plan to prevent further erosion in common areas and to remain compliant with both the county and state storm water maintenance regulations. 4. Daylight Saving Time will end and we will switch back to Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Sunday, November 4th. Please watch for children coming home from school in the twilight hours. 5. The Board wishes everyone a safe and Happy Thanksgiving! November 2018 Monthly Calendar Nov. 1 ~ 7pm Conservancy Annual VC Nov. 5 ~ 7:30pm Rec. Comm. Trash will be collected on the next regular pick-up day.
2 Important Information Single Family/Townhouse: Trash, Recycling & Trash Storage Trash disposal and storage of trash cans has become a problem in Spring Ridge. We want to remind residents of the rules and procedures to dispose of trash and to store trash cans in the community. The rule states: ARTICLE IX, Section 9.02 (e): "Trash and garbage containers shall not be permitted to remain in public view except on days of trash collection and after 6pm on days prior to trash collection. Trash shall be stored in closed metal containers or containers constructed of other suitable materials. No incinerator shall be kept or maintained on any Lot. We ask residents that when disposing of household trash to put the trash bags inside a trash container before putting the trash out for collection at the curbside. Individual trash bags should not be put out on the curbside. Animals will get into the trash bags and spread trash all over the community making the community look very unkempt. The same applies to your recycling during recycle collection days make sure the recycling is secured inside the recycle container so not to blow all over the community. Yard waste should be put out on the curbside inside proper landscape paper bags. Large branches should be cut in small sections no larger than 3 feet and bundled up before being put curbside for collection. Trash cans (recycle cans included) should only be put out on the street for collection at 6 pm on days prior to collection. All trash containers should be put away from public view no later than the end of the trash collection day. When not in use trash cans should be kept in the garage, backyard or screened from public view. These rules apply to regular household trash cans and recycle cans. With the exception of holidays and inclement weather, here is the Single Family/Townhouse trash collection schedule: Household Trash Monday & Thursday Yard Waste Yard Waste will continue every Wednesday. See below. Recycling (glass, paper, plastic, etc.) is not a service offered by Spring Ridge. It is fully serviced by Frederick County. Frederick County Recycling can be contacted at or by ing recycle@frederickcountymd.gov Yard Waste Recycling Reminder Single Family/Townhouses: Yard Waste Recycling will continue every Wednesday until January 9, 2019, then will resume in March Grass and other yard clippings must be placed in paper bags, kraft bags or in a clean uncontaminated container separate from household trash or the standard co-mingled recycling. Yard Waste in plastic bags will not be accepted! Contact the Visitor Center with questions. Safety Tip: For your safety, please remember to wear bright colors or white when walking at night. This significantly helps drivers to see you when you are walking.
3 Important Information Spring Ridge Friends and Neighbors Club It's the festive time of year when we're planning menus for entertaining. The November 13th FAN Club meeting will feature guest speaker, Marc Monahan, owner of Spin the Bottle in Downtown Frederick. Marc will share his expertise for pairing wines with food for your holiday table. He will have wines available for tasting and share ideas for choosing that perfect match for Thanksgiving dinner and all those company meals you'll be preparing from now until we ring in the New Year! Join us at the Visitor's Center at 7pm for socializing and then our meeting and presentation at 7:30pm. You must be 21 years old to attend. Please note the meeting this month will be held on Tuesday the 13th and NOT the third Wednesday due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Scouting For Food The Boy Scouts will collect food in Spring Ridge this fall as part of the national Scouting for Food initiative. Scouts will distribute empty bags on Saturday, November 3rd and pick-up filled bags on Saturday, November 10th. Please leave bags of unexpired, non-perishable food items on your front porch by 9am on Saturday the 10th. NO GLASS. Condo residents may leave filled bags outside the main entry door of your condo building for pick-up on November 10th. Thank you for your generosity. 5 Fall Updates Time for Property Maintenance Fall is the perfect time to take care of maintenance items that can make a big difference for your home and the overall look of the property, especially when winter is right around the corner. Here are some ideas: Fences: Wood fences do not last forever. We have seen fences that have been installed over 15 years ago or more and now are in great need of replacement or repair. This is especially true in the case of split rail fences. If this is your case you should repair or replace the fence. Grass/weeds: Grass and weeds growing on cracks of sidewalks, driveways and in particular on the curb side areas gives a very unkempt look to your property. We have seen weeds/grass growing up to a foot near the curb side area in front of some homes in Spring Ridge. A little bit of Round Up once every 3 months applied in some of these spots would greatly improve the appearance of your home. Exterior painting and replacement of rotten wood trims: A coat of paint on the exterior trim of your home is one of the easiest ways to give your home a fresh, well-maintained appearance for little investment. If you have some rotten wood trim areas make sure to repair it properly. We advise you to replace the wood with the new paintable, low maintenance PVC trims. Flower beds/ gardens: Now that the summer is over, any vegetable gardens and flower beds around the house should be cleaned of dead plant materials. Tree trimming: A lot of front yard trees have branches growing into the sidewalks due to the growth throughout the summer time. Branches should be trimmed away from sidewalks in order to not impede passage. Leaf pickup: Rake leaves from your yard on a regular basis. Leaving leaves in your yard gives your yard a very unkempt look plus it will eventually destroy your lawn. Remember Spring Ridge offers Yard waste removal every Wednesday April through mid December. And, the first thing most people see is the front yard of your home and so we advise you to keep it clean and maintained. Pet Waste Picking up your pet(s) waste is not only law, but is a rule of the community association and shows common courtesy. Please be mindful and pick up after your pet(s). Please be aware that all animals must be on a leash, and accompanied by their owners at all times. This applies to dogs and cats. Not only is this the policy of Spring Ridge, but it is also a Frederick County law. Owners of unleashed/unattended animals face fines by not only the County, but also by Spring Ridge. In addition to this, Animal Control can and will be called to remove unleashed/unattended animals if this problem persists. Please be courteous to your neighbors as well as your pets.
6 Stay In The Know Habitat For Humanity Box Tops Did you know that the Spring Ridge Visitor's Center is a collection point for the Box Tops for Education program? Last year, two Cadette Girl Scouts who live in Spring Ridge worked with the community managers and board of directors to get approval to place a collection box at the Visitor's Center and to advertise the program as part of a sustainable project to earn their Silver Award. Contributions are donated to the middle school that serves Spring Ridge Governor Thomas Johnson Middle School. You can read more about this project in the April 2017 and October 2016 Spring Ridge newsletters available at If you already collect box tops for our two local elementary schools (Spring Ridge and Oakdale) please continue to do so. But if you have been throwing box tops away, this information is for you! You can drop off Box Tops for Education at the Visitor's Center 24/7. During business hours, please stop in and drop them in the collection box. But when the Visitor's Center is closed you can use the mail slot. We request that you put the box tops in a zip lock bag. More information about the Box Tops for Education program can be found at Questions? Please rhonda.hillman@gmail.com. Habitat For Humanity now picks up for free in Spring Ridge. Gently used furniture, appliances and building materials are wanted. All upholstered furniture must be free of rips, tears, stains and pet hair and odor. All items must be on the first floor, ground level unless you live in a building with an elevator. In order to process your donation pick up request, pictures of the items should be sent to faith.pippins@frederickhabitat.org. Please include the age of any appliances, your address and contact number. Habitat For Humanity s driver has the final decision upon arrival. He will inspect the items and provide a receipt. MOMS Club of Frederick-East The MOMS Club of Frederick-East is a support group for stay-at-home mothers, offering support and activities for mothers and their children. Please contact momsclubfrederickeast@gmail.com for information.
