3 Foreword Welcome to RCN's Directory of rurally-based Community Venues. This publication is a resource for community groups, statutory bodies, local authorities and others to avail of. The publication promotes the community owned and managed assets of a wide range of community and voluntary sector groups in rural Northern Ireland. These venues are the beating heart of many rural areas where communities gather to socialise, celebrate, debate, chat, educate and express grief. Many venues have been built with vast amounts of local support, both in terms of finance and voluntary effort and RCN is committed to supporting the continuation of these venues as essential services within rural areas. Increasingly we see a commitment across many sectors to support and resource locally-based voluntary and community activity and the production of this Directory gives Rural Community Network an opportunity to ensure those looking for venues, for any number of reasons, can use this resource to support community activity in rural areas. These venues are available for hire for a range of uses, be it for training courses, team-building, consultation exercises, conferences and even events such as weddings and birthday parties. These venues provide a warm and friendly welcome for those making use of them and many of the venues have state of the art equipment and resources. We would encourage all sectors to make use of these venues to support the long-term sustainability of many small rural groups.
