He said India should assess its service capabilities in the global perspective. The Prime Minister said Indian doctors are now playing important role in running successfully the medical infrastructure of many countries of the world which without them would collapse. He said India had vast potential to meet the skilled manpower needs of the entire Hon b n ble Pri me Ministist ster Nar end dra Mod iw wit ith Shri Sum it Maz umd er, Pr esiden t, Con nfed edera tio on of Indian Ind ust ry (on th el eft )a nd Mr Cha ndr aji t Bane anerje e, Dir ector General, era Confederation era of findi Indian Industry(right) rig at the CII Stall world, and called for a careful mapping of global needs, which India could fulfill over the next decade. Mr. Modi said that India s young population in near further would need skills and training to join the global work force. He noted that the skilled talent pool of India can be more attractive if only they were to possess knowledge of foreign languages and social etiquettes of the countries they were intended to work in. The Prime Minister mentioned sectors such as nursing, highend financial services, arbitration, tourism, music and vegetarian cooking as examples of what India had to offer to the world, besides the already established IT and other core sectors. We need to find out in which specific countries and sectors we can utilize our demographic dividend, he said. Yoga and IT services already have earned a reputation for India, Prime Minister Modi said. We, however, can do some out of the box thinking to leverage India s rich social and cultural diversity. Tourism can play an important role here. We can make such schemes which allow foreign tourist to learn about our food and musical heritage and take India to the world. India has vast potential to meet the skilled manpower needs of the entire world. The PM called for a careful mapping of global needs, which India could fulfil over the next decade. We need to come out of the protection mentality and be confident enough to embrace the world and technology. For in doing so, more jobs are expected to open up in the services sector. PM stated that sectors such as nursing, high-end financial services, arbitration, tourism, music and vegetarian cooking as examples of what India had to offer to the world. Yoga and IT services already have earned a reputation for India in the services. However, we can do some out of the box initiatives too, such as leveraging India s rich social and cultural diversity. 3 Arun Jaitely & Rajeev Kher at the valedictory function Charting New Avenues of Growth Mr Arun Jaitley, Union Minister of Finance, during the GES Valedictory session stated that the services sector provide opportunity to unleash its own energy and foster growth as it is not entirely dependent on availability of quality infrastructure or natural resources. Moreover, it is an area where chartering new territories would also depend on the creativity and imagination of the human mind. Citing examples of the largest retailer, which has operations worldwide but does not own a single retail store or the largest taxi service which does not own a single vehicle, he said that numerous changes have been happening in the last few years which have made the the brick and mortar model less relevant. New avenues are being opened up in cyberspace eg in education, banking, etc. Our aim should be to be a creator rather than the recipient of services. It needs to be realised that sectoral limits on FDI no longer make sense in an era when prohibitions can be breached by technology.
