Historical live export data can be downloaded from MLA s public database - Feeder and slaughter cattle exports reflected the increased import permit allocation into Indonesia. Last year, first quarter (Q1) import permits into Indonesia were just 100,000 head, while the first trimester (January-April) in is 200,000 head. Q1 live cattle exports were the highest on records dating back to 1990, at just over 302,000 head (feeder, slaughter and breeder cattle). Indonesia received just over 147,000 head over the same period, indicating three quarters of permits have been utilised with one month to go in the trimester. Importers are now in the process of applying for second trimester permits but no official announcement on total numbers has been made. Exports to Vietnam are estimated to be around 71,000 head, back 25% year-onyear. However, this decline is off a particularly high figure as a result of low Q1 import permits into Indonesia last year, which resulted in Australian exporters directing increased numbers to Vietnam. The strong live export figures are also reflective of the greater numbers of cattle being turned off across northern Australia post wet-season. Live export prices have cooled off, with feeder steers delivered to Darwin currently receiving around 350 /kg lwt and similar lines delivered to Townsville earning /kg lwt. The most recent month and, at times, second most recent month trade data comes from DAWR. This data is then updated when ABS data is released. * During the period October 2015 to February, the ABS did not disclose feeder and slaughter cattle trade data to Vietnam, China and Japan. However, the vast majority of these cattle were destined for Vietnam. In addition, trade data by individual port was also not disclosed over this period. The trade data by destination and by port over this period is aggregated into the "Unknown" category. ** DAWR does not report on individual ports. Port data is updated when released by the ABS. 5 LiveLink - April Q1 sheep exports were up 25% year-on-year, at just over 491,000 head, underpinned by strong trade to Kuwait, with the market taking 38% of total exports. In addition, exports to Qatar during Q1 were up 37% year-on-year, at just over 130,000 head, while shipments to Oman increased almost twenty-fold, at just over 74,000 head. However, trade with some other Middle Eastern markets continued to decline. So far this year there have been no exports to Bahrain, while Q1 last year there were 80,000 head, reflecting the removal of the government s sheep import subsidy program. In addition, Q1 exports to the UAE were back 63% year-on-year, at almost 34,000 head. Malaysia continues to be the largest market for air-freight live goats. However, shipments to the UAE have picked up considerably so far this year, with the market receiving more in February and than the 2015 total. As reflected in Figure 9, the decline in goat shipments to Malaysia was offset by greater sheep exports to the market. During the first quarter sheep exports to Malaysia were up 75% year-on-year, just over 20,000 head. Meat & Livestock Australia Limited,.
