2 2 40 Years of LEADING INDEPENDENTS 2017 is AIM's 40th year, so this year's National Conference will provide a great opportunity to focus on how independents prosper under effective leadership, through inspirational stories from some of our members. Conference 2017 will include all the elements delegates enjoy: a chance to hear from people running large and small museums as well as from organisations outside the sector, a focus on practical ways to address current challenges and lots of opportunities to network. 4 4 SOCIAL EVENTS Join us for a three-course dinner with wine at The Historic Dockyard, Chatham. speech by Sir Neil Cossons, AIM President and founding member, in celebration of AIM s 40th anniversary. The dinner will be the focus of our 40 year celebration and will include a
5 5 Friday evening's attraction will be a barbecue at Fort Amherst with drinks sponsored once again by Absolute Museum & Gallery Products. Originally constructed during Napoleonic times in preparation for a possible invasion, Chatham's Fort Amherst offers visitors over 300 years of fascinating military history. A tour of the tunnels is also included. The Saturday study tour will be to inspirational local attractions in Kent: Turner Contemporary in Margate and The Powell-Cotton Museum, Quex Park. Further information will be available in the coming months via the AIM Bulletin and website.
6 6 CONFERENCE INFORMATION Details of hotels near the Conference venue are available on the AIM website. Please be sure to book early as there are no guaranteed rates or reservations this year. The Early Bird booking for AIM members closes 28 April Bookings are best made through the AIM website, or can be made using the form in this brochure. Chatham railway station is regularly served by high speed trains travelling towards and departing from London St Pancras, as well as London Victoria, Charing Cross and Stratford International. There is free parking available on site. The closest airport is London Gatwick. Grant applications to attend Conference via the AIM Training Grants Scheme must be received no later than 17th April No refunds will be given after the 23rd May (30 days prior to the event) although you can still substitute a different delegate to attend. A handling fee of 5 will be made on refunds.
