The plant From Salzburg Depart has been undergoing a 23 million expansion and refurbishment for the last three years. Sheraton Return This programme is due to be completed by the end of Tour B Depart Return The tour will cover a range of production lines including: yogurt in cups and buckets; cartons for milk, cream, drinks and whey; curd and cream cheese; hard and semi-hard cheese. There will also be an opportunity to see cheese maturation and packing as well as the high rack warehouse and the logistics centre. Owned by two co-operatives, Milchhof Salzburg and Tauernmilch Bischofshofen (51%), and Meggle AG (49%), Alpenmilch Salzburg is the fifth largest dairy producer in Austria, processing an average 155 million litres of milk per year. With a reputation for high quality milk from organic grass-fed cows,the company s portfolio includes a full range of white and yellow dairy products including cheese, milk, buttermilk, yogurt, cream, yogurt drinks, fruit-whey, chocolate drinks and range of organic products. The company s turnover is more than 100 million and one third of its products are exported within the European Union. 7 2010 GLOBAL DAIRY CONGRESS About the venue Situated in central Austria at the northern edge of the Alps, Salzburg is the country s fourth largest city with a population of 150,000. Its well preserved medieval and Baroque old town is testimony to the wealth of the former city state and is listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. Now a popular tourist destination, Salzburg is most famous as the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and as host to the world renowned Salzburg festival of opera, concerts and theatre performances. Salzburg airport operates numerous scheduled flights within Europe and is a 15 minute taxi ride away. The Salzburg Congress Centre (below) is centrally located and easily accessible from the local motorway network. Officially opened in 2001, it offers state of the art facilities and a range of meeting areas. In the old town close to the cathedral, The Residenz Palace was built in the 16th century for use by the prince bishops. The spacious and lavishly decorated State Rooms are open to the public, as is the Residenz Gallery which houses a collection of European art from the 16th to 19th centuries. The excellent acoustics of the Knight s Hall, often used by young Mozart, can still be appreciated today at the regular Salzburg Palace Concerts. About the event This year s theme, Packed with value, aims to explore the many different aspects of value that dairy can offer, from premium to affordability and from convenience to functionality. The Congress will cover a range of key issues including global market and consumer trends, social responsibility, innovation, health and emerging high growth niche opportunities.
