1 Recruitment Tourism and Events Officer Salary: Reporting to: Department: 20,000-24,000 (Permanent) Marketing & Audiences Manager Audiences & Media V&A Museum of Design Dundee Opening in 2018, V&A Museum of Design Dundee will be the only V&A museum anywhere in the world outside London. It will be the first ever dedicated design museum in Scotland: an international centre for design, a place of inspiration, discovery and learning. V&A Dundee will present the largely untold story of Scotland s outstanding design achievements, bringing together in one place the world-renowned V&A collections with loans from other collections in Scotland and beyond to allow everyone to understand and be inspired by this important design heritage. These collections will be accompanied by international touring exhibitions from the V&A, making Dundee the only location in the UK outside London to receive these globally significant exhibitions. In addition, V&A Dundee will also originate its own exhibitions. The 80.11m project to create the museum is at the heart of Dundee s ambitious 1bn waterfront regeneration supporting the creation of more jobs and wider economic benefits. It will generate civic pride and transform the city region as a tourism destination. V&A Dundee will be the first building in the UK designed by Kengo Kuma, the internationally renowned architect who is also designing the Tokyo 2020 Olympic stadium. His vision is for the museum to be a new living room for the city, welcoming everyone to visit, enjoy and socialise, and to reconnect the city with its historic River Tay waterfront.

2 V&A Dundee is being delivered by, established by a ground-breaking partnership between Dundee City Council, the University of Dundee, Abertay University, Scottish Enterprise and the Victoria and Albert Museum, the world s greatest museum of art and design. Audiences & Media Department The Audiences & Media department has a dedicated role to build the profile of V&A Dundee, its brand, vision and drive engagement and visits to its wideranging programmes for audiences. This includes brand management, marketing, internal / external communications, media relations, digital communications and audience research. Role Profile The Tourism & Events Officer will develop and maintain a successful travel trade, groups and corporate hire business for V&A Dundee. They will promote V&A Dundee as an international visitor attraction and one of the top unique venues in Scotland to a range of B2B audiences, from travel trade to groups. They will develop a range of innovative partnerships and packages designed to position the new museum as a new, world-class must-see cultural attraction and venue. Part of the Audiences and Media team, the role will also work closely with colleagues in the Visitor Experience and other teams as well as catering partner Heritage Portfolio, playing a key role in the financial sustainability of the new museum, helping develop and implement a robust group visits and sales strategy. The V&A Dundee venue hire and events business will be operated by contractual agreement by Heritage Portfolio, and will generate a vital commercial income to support our charitable objectives. The post-holder will take responsibility as Duty Event Manager for travel, tourism and groups events as required.

3 Duties and Responsibilities Travel, Tourism and Groups Business Development Build and develop effective customer relationships with local, national and international group, travel and tourism operators, acting as first point of contact for booking enquiries and converting into added value sales. Represent V&A Dundee at leading travel trade shows, meetings and networking events, promoting the new museum as Scotland s most exciting new attraction and unique venue. Facilitate familiarisation trips to V&A Dundee for travel trade, specialist media, national agencies and international tourism industry Develop and implement high quality experience packages for large groups to smaller niche exclusive events. Develop a range of strategic partnerships with leading industry brands including hospitality and accommodation providers, online travel agents and review sites. Continually develop opportunities for the generation of new income streams capitalising on the museum s unique positioning and brand equity. Develop and maintain the domestic and international travel trade contact stream within the organisation s GDPR-compliant CRM system Delivering to organisational KPIs, regularly evaluate and review activity, reporting on sales revenue achieved. Work with colleagues to ensure effective distribution of marketing and communications content, to specialist groups and travel trade media. Collaborate with partners across Dundee and the wider region on the development of destination driving packages and events contributing to the development of Dundee and the waterfront as a dynamic visitor destination. Travel to meet new clients and attend industry events.

4 Venue Hire/Events Management With Heritage Portfolio, co-ordinate a sales and marketing strategy for the venue hire function in relation to travel, tourism and groups business. Work closely with internal colleagues, including Visitor Experience, Learning & Innovation and Philanthropy & Partnerships staff, and Heritage Portfolio to ensure the efficient and effective management of these bookings. Maintain effective communication and working relationships with colleagues in order to ensure an integrated approach to event activity, including the updating of associated CRM system data. Build positive relationships with internal teams, to ensure newly-booked business is achieved and effectively delivered. Act as Duty Event Manager for travel, tourism and groups events as and when required, and sometimes at evenings and weekends. Assist the Senior Management Team to identify potential income generation opportunities from alternative venue hire and tourism strategies to ensure the organisation s long-term financial viability Work with the Philanthropy and Partnerships team to ensure fundraising and business development activities are complementary and all potential income generation activities are exploited Ensure effective systems for bookings and invoicing are in place, reviewing and updating business processes as necessary to ensure best practice is developed for the new museum.

5 Person Specification Essential - Highly driven sales professional with a minimum of 2 years experience in a business development role. - Previous work experience in an attraction, museum, gallery, travel trade or destination management organisation. - Proven commercial aptitude and successful sales track record including B2B sales experience, new business and account management. - Excellent communication, presentation and administrative skills. - Proven experience of using CRM and ticketing systems to maximise new business opportunities. - Meticulous attention to detail, resilient under pressure. - Self-motivated, proactive and willingness to go the extra mile. - Willingness to travel and to work at evening or weekend events. Desirable - Understanding of the needs of travel, tourism, group operators, and corporate hire industry. - Qualification in tourism management, marketing, events or hospitality. - Experience is hospitality management. - Customer care experience. - Knowledge of first aid and licensing issues.
