The parade will take place on Saturday, November 15th, 2014 with the lineup beginning on Shore Road and the parade itself beginning at 2 pm. The route will see the parade turn left onto Main Street, left onto McKay Street and then left into the parking lot of Holy Family Parish Hall for disbursement. There will be an award ceremony at the Holy Family Parish Hall following the parade and there will also be a special visit from Santa. We are hoping that this year s parade will be our biggest turn out yet. We are theming it for the 125th Anniversary of Sydney Mines and look forward to having as many entrants as possible. EVERY TUESDAY - 8 PM - BINGO - at ther Branch 008 Legion Sydney Mines. BOB SEGER - Ride Out Universal - Let s be honest- Bob Seger s best songs have already been written. The same goes for The Rolling Stones, Boston, Metallica, Aerosmith, Foreigner and a ton of other bands who saw their best days already. For the most part though it s not their fault. In their day music wasn t as fractured as it is today. Back then most people would buy an album and listen to it from start to finish, over and over again. Then things had to be marketed to s p e c i f i c audiences, and the whole music business changed so much that now the big hits and radio airplay go to the instant pop stars like Nicki Minaj, with their latest version of McMusic. I ll bet that in 5 years time their songs will just be gathering dust in a file that s no longer opened. The one consolation musicians like Bob Seger will have is knowing that they gave us timeless classics that find new fans with each new generation. It s been 8 years since we ve heard a studio album by Bob and this one kicks off in fine style with the rockin Detroit Made and the boogie-woogie blues tinged Hey Gypsy, which is a tribute to the late Stevie Ray Vaughan-and you can tell. The influences on these songs should come as no surprise, given Bob s early passion for Exercise classes for the Sydney Mines Seniors & Pensioners Club, will be held every Tuesday at 1:00 pm EXCEPT the FIRST Tuesday of every month when it will be held in the evening 6:00 p m. BY PAUL POWER R&B, soul and blues. These songs are so good that he and the band could hang their hats up just after these 2 tracks. Unfortunately though what follows are quite a few hybrid new country type rock songs like Ride Out, Adam and Eve, The Fireman s Talkin, The Devil s Right Hand (written by Steve Earle), Listen (featuring Vince Gill) a n d California S t a r s which just didn t grab m y attention. Don t get me wrongcountry music radio programmers would be absolute idiots to pass on giving these tracks airplay. They all have the potential to be big hitsand they will find fans. They re just not for me. Bob does find his Against the Wind moment again on the song All of the Roads. It s a great track that will take you back to so-called better days with its signature Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band sound. You Take Me In is another slower moment that sounds like it was written directly from the heart, with a vintage air to it that makes the song very touching. To sum up, even with the songs that I didn t personally care for that much, this album is still very good. Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band are scheduled to perform at the Metro Centre on November 24 th. NATALIE MacMASTER CLOSES CELTIC COLOURS WITH A BANG - I had the privilege of being in the audience lastsaturday night at the closing concert of Celtic Colours at Centre 200. Natalie MacMaster, along with a group of her friends, performed for two and a half hours with rousing music and dance that pleased everyone in the audience. A special treat for my wife and I was the appearance of their three oldest children playing the fiddle and step dancing on stage. They got a standing ovation for their performance.
