2 what s on Horse Festival roundup All the fun and festivity of the Scone and Upper Hunter Horse Festival is upon us again with the ten-day celebration kicking off on May 5. The Professional Farriers Association NSW Branch Title and Blacksmith competitions will be held at White Park from Friday to Sunday. Friday night will also see the Australian Stock Horse Society Festival Ball give everyone a chance to dress up and get down to local band The Crippled Chickens. Scone s main street will come alive this Saturday morning, May 7 with the annual parade which is always a feat for the eyes. The Scone Cup Carnival is another highlight coming up on May 13 and 14. Tickets will be on sale from 5pm, with the restaurant open from 6pm and happy hour between 6.30pm and 7.30pm. 3 what s on Celebrate the artworks of talented members Scone Arts and Crafts will open its Members Exhibition and Photographic Awards on Friday May 6 at the Scone Arts & Crafts Hall, Kingdon Street Scone. Scone Arts and Crafts Inc. is a community group which supports the arts in the Upper Hunter region. Started by a group of painters in 1963, the organisation is still going strong with around 150 members today. The members are all sending in their entries, and we are hopeful of some really exciting works of art, pottery and sculpture that will be all be for sale during the exhibition. There will also be some wonderful metal horse art to purchase for the horse art devotees. said the committee s president, Pammie Saunderson-Mcleay. If you can t make it to opening night, the exhibition will be open every day between 10am and 4pm from May 7 to 14 and from 10am 1pm on Sunday May 15. An alfresco café will also be open as part of the exhibition on Saturday May 7 coupled with That Little Art Place from Singleton in their pop-up shop with supplies and demonstrations. For the Fallen is a highly evocative, costumed piece which features a new work by composer Paul Jarman to commemorate the Centenary of the Battle of Fromelles. The group will perform at the Upper Hunter Conservatorium of Music as part of their current tour, which also takes in Canberra, London, Paris and the battlefields of France. In July, Hunter Singers will tour to the Western Front for the Centenary commemorations. Established in 1989 by Kim Sutherland OAM, the choir currently has 35 singers aged 14 to 20 years, representing nine high schools in the Hunter area, along with former members of the group. For the Fallen will be performed in the Atherston Room at the Upper Hunter Conservatorium, 80 Bridge Street Muswellbrook at 2pm, May 15. Tickets are $25 adult, $20 concession. Huge success for Fred Hollows long lunch Hebden farmers Ross Clydsdale and John Galloway recently raised $3000 for the Fred Hollows Foundation. The men hosted a long lunch at their homestead near Muswellbrook. The afternoon featured live jazz by local musician Adrian Wells.
