1 SUMMER 2014 A great end to another great year! Happy new year! And welcome to the first edition of Grapevine for In this issue we update you on the wide ranging progress currently underway at Discovery Point, where there are five buildings now under construction; whilst sales for future buildings such as Shore reflect the ever-growing popularity of our outstanding residential development. But behind the bricks and mortar, this issue also gives a snapshot of just how quickly Discovery Point has developed to become a vibrant, engaged community and a great place to live. I well remember it years ago as an empty construction site, and nothing pleases me more today than to scroll through this issue of Grapevine to read about annual residents Christmas parties, community consultation forums, on-site Australia Day celebrations, new supermarkets and retail precincts that also benefit the wider community, even our own environmentally friendly water supply! Congratulations to all who have been involved, including our residents! Discovery Point is evolving to be a great community, and here s to another great year ahead! Nigel Edgar General Manager NSW Residential Scenes from the annual 2013 Discovery Point Christmas Party. One of the most appealing attributes of Discovery Point is the very real sense of community that has developed here in recent years; and that special quality was admirably reflected at the 2013 annual Discovery Point Christmas Party, held in December for all current and future residents. Approximately 250 people attended, with many residents keen to catch up with old friends as well as taking the opportunity to make new ones. It was a great night! Residents enjoyed sipping on cocktails and wine, whilst tasting yummy canapés in the well-decked out courtyard area located between Verge and Greenbank. Live music and African drummers provided exciting entertainment for all guests, whilst children were both surprised and delighted when Mrs Claus arrived to join her jolly husband and say hello. discovery point

2 Construction Update Artists impression of Discovery Point showing future buildings. The face of Discovery Point is ever-changing these days, with on-site development now proceeding at a rapid pace. There are now five buildings currently under construction, with four separate builders assigned to complete ARC, LINC, METRO, WATERVUE and SUMMIT. View of LINC under ccnstruction. In addition, the past few months have seen some impressive milestones achieved. For example, the crane for WATERVUE has been delivered and erected, plus the basement for this beautiful building is now complete. Level 8 of ARC and Level 7 of LINC have also been poured, whilst initial internal fit out has commenced on Level 1 in both buildings. We have also seen the delivery of the piling rig into the basement of SUMMIT. The ramp for the METRO carpark has recently been poured. Keeping Our Community Updated As summer unfolded, two open forum community consultations sessions were held in The Chapel to enable residents to better understand the progress of development at Discovery Point, and also to inform them about the wide range of amenities available within each new building. These information sessions were also an opportunity to: Find out what the Discovery Point Co-Operative means for residents Check out what s next for construction Meet the Discovery Point Development Team The consultation events were very well received, with approximately 30 residents attending sessions over the two days. As a result, there are now lists of FAQ s on various aspects of Discovery Point now available on the community portal: www. discoverypointcommunity.com.au Discovery Point Park Over the last couple of months we have continued to improve the public open space in Discovery Point Park and Mt Olympus. There have been some areas where replanting has taken place in front of Tempe House and on the hill heading towards the BBQ area. Mt Olympus has also had a face lift and works will continue over the coming months, with new tree planting to be completed. Replanting has taken place outside Tempe House.

3 Sales Update Now Selling! The official launch of the Village Square was held in November 2013 with 30 groups expressing significant interest in the retail precinct to date. This dynamic part of the overall development will be ready to commence operations when LINC reaches completion in late We are also pleased to announce we have secured a retailer for the 950 sq metre supermarket space. Initial fit out plans have already been reviewed and we are very sure that residents will be ecstatic with the proposed format. Part of the retail space will be an international style supermarket designed to cater for the needs of all residents of Discovery Point and the broader community. In the coming months, further updates will be given for the Village Square Retail Precinct. Discovery Point Water will harvest and purify local water from the community within Discovery Point, providing households with a secure and environmentally friendly water source for everyday use. This water supply will not be affected by the water restrictions, allowing us to help keep gardens, parks and neighbouring sporting fields green. Unsure what Discovery Point Water is? 5 Community Update What s happening in and around your neighbourhood Chinese New Year at Discovery Point on Sunday February 2 Come along and celebrate Chinese New Year at Discovery Point Park oval on Sunday February 2nd! There will be kite flying, lion dancing and Kung Fu performances, Chinese music, food and more. Come along and join in on this colourful, exciting celebration. Australia Day at Discovery Point The Discovery Point site played an important part in Australia s colonial history, as evidenced by Caroline Chisholm s portrait appearing on our old $5 note, and for that reason alone celebrating Australia Day here should be a significant event in the community calendar. Australia Day is not only about celebrating the diversity and harmony of our national community, but also the freedoms and lifestyle we all enjoy. So why not get together with other residents and friends this coming Sunday January 26th to celebrate Australia Day at Discovery Point. There s no better way to start a summer Sunday than with champagne and bacon & egg damper rolls; and after breakfast we can all enjoy a fun game of cricket or croquet Australian-style in the park. Australia Day at Botany Bay Foreshore on Sunday January 26 On the shores of Botany Bay this iconic celebration will take place at Peter Depena Reserve - Russell Avenue, Dolls Point. The day will consist of a Flag raising ceremony, Citizenship Ceremony and Rockdale Citizens of the Year Presentations, a traditional Welcome to Country, plus family entertainment including face painting and a community sausage sizzle. Playgroup Now Running Weekly The Playgroup runs Wednesday from 10am-11:30am in the Chapel. Come along and meet other parents and let the kids get creative! The event features stalls, traditional performances, authentic food and children s activities. ALDI Supermarket Coming Soon Wolli Creek s Aldi supermarket has commenced construction. Soon, Discovery Point residents will be able to enjoy the convenience of having this international supermarket virtually just around the corner we ll keep you posted in future issues of Grapevine regarding exact opening dates.

6 For the Diary Rockdale Arts Festival on Sunday March 16 to April at Cook Park The Rockdale Arts Festival is a program of arts initiatives, activities and events across the City annually in March/April. The festival comprises of the Rockdale Outdoor Gallery Art Prize and Exhibition, creartivity, school holiday library craft activities and community run arts-based workshops. The festival unites with Harmony Day promoting the rich cultural diversity in our City. Artworks will be displayed in an Outdoor Gallery Exhibition at Cook Park, Kyeemagh between 16 March - 6 April Heritage Festival on Saturday 5 & Sunday 6 April :00am 4:00pm The Heritage Festival has now been running for 34 years as a community based festival highlighting cultural events throughout NSW. For 2014, the National Trust is keen to have a strong Indigenous presence with lots of exposure to history and culture, as well as insights into different communities in NSW. This year s theme is Journeys, looking at walkabout to migration, immigration to adventure and discovery as well as travel vehicles and stories.
