1 Thank you for your participation in (APYS ) For you to have a better experiences in Beijing, we prepared some practical information for your reference use. Arrival Note 1. Passport and visa 1.1. All persons entering and departing China must have a passport or other valid travel document. Official visa invitations through the RCSC can take some time, so please once again check with your NS and be sure your VISA has been confirmed. 2. Arrival 2.1. Please always provide your latest flight itinerary to Ms. ZHANG Shanshan (zhangshanshan@redcross.org.cn) and Mr. Kyrus SIU (kyrus.siu@ifrc.org) Volunteers and staff will be arranged in the Beijing Capital International Airport upon arrival and departure Free Wi-Fi is available in the Beijing Capital International Airport ARRIVAL Please approach volunteers and staff (with the Red Cross emblem) in the Arrival Hall of the Beijing Capital International Airport once you arrive Beijing. Transportation will be provided between the airport and the Training Centre If you missed the suggested arrival time or need supports, please call Ms. ZHANG Shanshan at or other contact persons For more information about the Beijing Capital International Airport, please visit 3. Currency 3.1. The currency using in China is Chinese Yuan (CNY/RMB) ( ). The exchange rate is around CNY/USD Money exchange shop is NOT COMMON in Beijing downtown. Please exchange money at the airport when you arrive Beijing with your passport ATM machines are widely available on street. Visa, Master are widely accepted. 1

2 Accommodation 4. Accommodation 4.1. The will be held in the Red Cross Training Centre. All participants will be stay in the hotel rooms in the Training Centre. All participants will be arranged to stay in a 2-bed/3-bed standard room with roommates in same gender The Training Centre will provide basic toiletries (i.e towels) in every room. However, we recommend you to bring your own necessaries (i.e shower gel, shampoo, toothbrush and toothpaste) 4.4. Participants are strongly suggested to store your passports and valuables in your locked suitcase when you are out of your room. 5. Internet Access 5.1. Wi-Fi and Ethernet service will be provided in the Training Centre area. 6. Electricity and Voltage 6.1. The power used in China is V, 50 Hz. 2

3 6.2. The standard for Chinese plugs and sockets is set out in GB and GB No power strip will offered in the Training Centre, and there is only limited sockets in each room. Please prepare adapters and power strip if necessary. Common sockets in China 7. Water 7.1. Tap water is NOT drinkable without boiled in Beijing. Please boil the tap water using the kettle in your hotel room before you drink. You can also drink bottled water. 8. Accommodation 8.1. Hotel booking for 3 nights are covered by the registration fee (19th-21st) For any additional staying in the hotel (e.g. early arrival and additional stay for the regional conference), delegates need to pay additional fee by themselves directly at the Hotel that they book (if planned to stay continuously at the Training Centre, it will cost approximately 60CHF per night with breakfast) 8.3. If planned to stay additionally at the Training Centre after the Youth Summit, please inform the following contact person in advance. 4 Other 9. Dress Code 9.1. An official polo-shirt will be distributed to every participant during the meeting Business attire and traditional costumes are advised for attending the 9 th Asia Pacific Regional Conference Please bring your Traditional Costume, as we would like to show the diversity of our region in the closing ceremony by having you dressed up in your traditional costume. 10. Language The official language of the is English. No simultaneous translation service will be provided during the Summit Mandarin Chinese is the official spoken language in China. Most of citizens in Beijing cannot speak or read English well. Asking someone who know both Chinese and English to write your words in Chinese in advance will be very useful when you are asking helps in Beijing. 11. Travel Insurance All participants are strongly advised to arrange your own travel insurance. 12. Wearing long-sleeved clothes and a jacket are advised As the temperature in Beijing during October is not very stable, please check the weather forecast before you start packing your luggage. 13. Time Zone The time zone of Beijing is GMT+8. 4

Security Keep your money, valuables and travel documents in a safe place, such as inside a hotel room safe Watch out for your belongings when you are carrying them, especially when you are in a crowded place Beware of people making dubious offers and attempts to distract you in order to steal your belongings Be wary of people offering gambling or investment opportunities. 15.
