2 what s on T F A sensational show It s on again! The 2015 Glencore Singleton Show hosted by the Northern Agricultural Association - 25th and 26th September and Horse Show on 27th September. There will be thrills and spills from start to finish with an action-packed program of events to entertain people of all ages. One of the many major highlights is the celebration of the 10th Annual OAK Australian Wife Carrying Titles, with an extended course and new obstacles making this already tough and enduring course even more entertaining. First prize is a travel package to Finland to compete in the World Championships, valued at over $4,000. It all kicks off early on Friday with local horse events commencing from 8am, ASC Beef and Dairy Cattle Junior taking place in the centre ring. Sideshow alley opens at 10am with plenty of rides to keep the little kids amused for hours. 4 food, wine & entertainment A literary celebration Scone Writers Festival The Scone Literary Long Weekend is just around the corner. From Saturday 3rd October until Monday 5th October, the town will be awash with some of the nation s best writers. Patrice Newell will MC the event, which begins at 10.30am on Saturday. Dr Judy White AM will give the Inaugural Patrick White Oration. Dr White is a passionate promoter of the Hunter Valley region who has written about the history of the area in eight of her 11 books. She was instrumental in the establishment of the Hunter Valley Research Foundation and a Board Member for 20 years. She has also sat on the boards of Dr Barnardo s Training Farm, the Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust, the Hunter Economic Development Corporation, the Hunter Institute of Technology, and the University of Newcastle (UON) Foundation. Graeme Simsion, author of The Rosie project will feature in a panel discussion chaired by Muswellbrook sci-fi author Leonie Rogers themed, The Book is better than the Film. Films can bring whole worlds to life before our eyes, make characters into living breathing flesh and blood, but books let you LIVE everything. Keep 1pm Saturday free to attend what is sure to be a very entertaining panel. On Sunday you can further your own writing skills and have a chance to have your work featured on ABC Radio Upper Hunter and Online. ABC Open producer Anthony Scully will run a free ABC Open workshop from am to midday. Students from Merriwa Central School, Scone Grammar School and Scone High School will be attending the leadership conference. Each group attending the conference will bring with them an idea or project they would either like to create in their local area or they already have and would like to improve.
