1 Dear Sir/Madam, 2 nd Health Tourism Conclave being organized by IMC on Friday, 12th January, 2018 at ITC Grand Central, Parel, Mumbai Medical tourism is seen as India s next success story. India is second to Thailand in terms of accredited healthcare facilities, making quality healthcare affordable and easily accessible, especially for the western world. The country sees a large number of medical tourists from the USA, UK, Africa, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) regions. Improving technology and quality in the healthcare sector along with growing number of healthcare providers within India have always strived hard to ensure that the scope for growth within this sector is huge. IMC s Travel, Tourism and Hospitality committee had successfully organized the 1 st Medical Tourism Conclave on 28th November 2016 and subsequently an IMC Task force was formed to assist the government of Maharashtra to draft a medical tourism policy for the State. Now, with the objective to provide a major boost to health tourism and address critical issues related to health tourism in India, IMC is organizing the 2 nd Health Tourism Conclave as follows: Day and Date : Friday, January 12, 2018 Time : 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Venue : Ballroom Room, ITC Grand Central, Parel, Mumbai. 4 2 nd HEALTH T O U R I S M Growing Opportun ies FRI 12th JAN 2018 ITC Grand Central, Parel, Mumbai Emergence of Medical Tourism in Indian cities like Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and the National Capital Region have recoded a phenomenal growth in foreign patients. Maharashtra, NCR and Tamil Nadu are the top Medical tourist destination. It is recoded that highest number of tourist coming to these cities are primarily from South Eastern countries and from Middle East, Africa, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Maldives, Pakistan, Bhutan and Sri Lanka. The number of medical visas issued by India rose up to 45% in 2016 that is 1.78 lakh medical visas as against 1.22 lakh visas in The Medical Tourism Market Report 2015 found that Indian medical treatments are of high quality and is a low cost medical tourism destination. It offers wide variety of procedures at one-tenth the cost of similar procedures in the United States. Cost wise India has an edge since India provides a lower cost treatment than the US and almost half that of Europe. At the IMC s 1st Medical Tourism Conclave held on 28th November 2016 at a panel discussion it was brought out that 27% of medical tourists come to Maharashtra of which 80% come to Mumbai. The then Principal Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Government of Maharashtra Smt. Valsa Nair Singh IAS, was the Guest of Honour at the Conclave. She stated that an Inter-Ministerial Group including ministry of tourism and ministry of health has formed a National Wellness Board to boost Maharashtra as a medical tourist destination. Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur have few of the best state-of-art hospitals in South East Asia. Globally, the medical tourism market is estimated at around $40-60 billion. It is estimated that by 2020 medical tourism industry of India is expected to touch $9 billion and currently the industry is pegged at $3 billion. Based on the points of IMC Task force which was formed post 1st Medical Conclave the ministry of tourism has released revised guidelines for the promotion of wellness and medical as niche tourism product and a website to ease the Medical Tourist from the agony of searching information related to health care centers, Medical Tourist visa and AYUR information in four different languages English Arabic, Russian and French.
