Culture is one of the most powerful forces in our world. It's central to what we see, how we make sense of our world, and how we express ourselves
700 different Indigenous cultural groups speaking some 250 different languages. 60 different nationalities among the crew and convicts. Abstract provided by the Making Australia Multicultural website "We should be proud that in NSW where a quarter of the population p was born overseas, and 40 per cent of us have a parent born overseas, we live in peace." (Quote from NSW Minister for Citizenship and Communities Victor Dominello)
Migrant communities from CALD (culturally & linguistically diverse) backgrounds have contributed enormously to the development of rural and regional communities across the state. migrants are usually among the most strongly motivated of those whose societies and countries they depart by definition, they are the ones with get up and go. Their desire to achieve is carried to new abodes and interacts, supplements and competes with the existing ways of doing things in their new homes. they have exceptional work ethics and have a compelling need to belong to their new community. (Community Relation Commission Report 2011)
In 2013 the multicultural makeup of the City of Coffs Harbour exceeds 50 nationalities and growing
Coffs Harbour s Emerging communities Between 2006 and 2011, the number of people born overseas increased by 1,330 or 17.8%, and the number of people from a non-english speaking background increased by 998 or 32.8%.
