SECTION 1 - NORMAL PROCEDURES 1.1 OPERATING CHECK LIST All normal procedures are unchanged except as indicated in the following. The following checks must be completed: 1. Before entering the floatplane: a. Inspect the floats and attachments for any dents, cracks, punctures, or other types of damage. b. Remove rubber plugs (which serve as stoppers on the standpipe of each float compartment) and pump out any water which may have accumulated. Re-install the rubber stoppers with enough pressure for a snug fit. If water accumulation is excessive, investigate the leakage. c. Confirm float baggage compartment content is secure and baggage compartment doors are properly closed and locked (each door has two latches; white dot on the latches must be visually confirmed to be outboard in the locked position). d. Brief passengers and handling personnel on float plane entry and exit procedures (including door opening and closing procedures) and on propeller awareness. Caution passengers to walk aft upon exiting the airplane in order to avoid the propeller danger area. Confirm the availability of required approved personal floatation devices for all passengers and flight crew, and brief the passengers on the location and use of these devices and other emergency equipment. Note: The walking surface of the floats as well as the left and right side entry steps are usually wet and can be slippery. Use caution when entering and exiting the airplane. Note: Entry and exit from the aircraft is normally accomplished with the engine off. 2. Before starting the engine: a. Confirm that water rudders are secure and operational. b. Water rudders POSITIONED AS REQUIRED. 3. Before taxiing: a. Confirm water rudders DOWN. 7 July Transport Canada Approved
b. Visually confirm float baggage compartment doors are closed and the door latches are in the locked position (also see item 1c ). 4. Take-off: a. Water rudders - UP. b. Wing flaps - 20 DEGREES. Note: The maximum rate of climb speed at 20 degrees flaps in the float configuration is 73 mph IAS (64 KIAS) (77 mph CAS [67 KCAS]). Under standard sea level conditions at maximum continuous power and at a gross weight of 2800 pounds this results in a rate of climb of 690 fpm. Note: It is emphasized that the above is the best rate of climb speed at 20 degrees flap. The aircraft s best rate of climb is achieved in the clean configuration in accordance with the speeds published by Cessna for the land plane configuration. c. Control wheel - HOLD FAR AFT INITIALLY. d. Power - FULL THROTTLE & MAX RPM (advance slowly). e. Control wheel - MOVE FORWARD TO ATTAIN PLANING ATTITUDE. f. Control wheel - PULL BACK LIGHTLY TO LIFT OFF. g. Wing flaps - AFTER TAKE-OFF, AFTER OBSTACLES ARE CLEARED AND AT A SAFE ALTITUDE, INCREASE SPEED TO 73 MPH IAS AND SLOWLY RAISE THE FLAP. CONTINUE TO INCREASE SPEED TO THE CLEAN CONFIGURATION BEST RATE OF CLIMB SPEED. 5. Before landing: a. Water rudders - UP. b. Wing flaps - DOWN. 6. Landing: a. Touchdown - SLIGHTLY TAIL LOW. b. Control Wheel - HOLD FULL AFT THROUGH DECELERATION. 7 July Transport Canada Approved

SECTION 6 - OPERATIONAL DATA 6.1 PERFORMANCE Aircraft performance and flight characteristics are affected by the installation of the Aerocet 3500 or 3500L floats. Extensive performance flight testing was not completed with the installation. Pilots are cautioned that significant degradation in performance (take-off run/distance, rate-of-climb, cruise speed, specific fuel consumption, landing distance/run in all flight conditions, power settings, and high altitude performance) is to be expected. Pilots must thoroughly familiarize themselves with the flight and performance characteristics of the aircraft, and must monitor climb and cruise performance including fuel consumption to establish that performance is adequate for the intended flight. 6.2 WEIGHT AND BALANCE The weight and balance envelope of the aircraft is not affected by the Aerocet 3500 or 3500L float installation except as follows: a. For the Cessna model 182N aircraft, the maximum authorized gross weight (takeoff and landing) is limited to 2800 lbs. b. For all models, the aft c.g. limit is 45 inches aft of datum. Each float has a baggage compartment. Each float s baggage compartment is limited to 100 lbs (45 kilograms) maximum content weight at station 28.0 inches. The pilot-in-command is responsible for establishing the aircraft weight and balance configuration prior to flight and for determining that, for all phases of the planned flight, the aircraft weight and balance will be within the approved weight and balance envelope. 7 July Transport Canada Approved
SECTION 7 - (UNAPPROVED) 7.1 GENERAL This supplement covers the operation of the Cessna 182 series aircraft equipped with Aerocet 3500 or 3500L floats installed as per approved data listed in Amtech Modification Data Summary MDS (latest approved revision). This manual is intended to supplement the information contained in the Cessna 182E through 182N inclusive Owner s Manuals, Pilot s Operating Handbook and approved Airplane Flight Manual, as applicable. As much as possible, the sections of this manual are numbered to conform to the numbering format used by Cessna; some deviations arise due to changes in format for these Cessna documents. It is the pilot-in-command's responsibility to determine that all crew and passengers are fully briefed in the operation of the restraint belts and harnesses, life vests, other water safety systems/devices and considerations, and other aircraft safety systems. Passengers must also be advised to utilize a high degree of caution when entering and exiting the aircraft as the walking surface of the floats as well as the steps into the aircraft may be wet and slippery. All passengers and aircraft handling personnel should also be briefed on propeller safety considerations, and on the use of water safety devices that are onboard the aircraft (the aircraft must have onboard an approved personal floatation device for each flight crew member and passenger plus any other devices required by the applicable operating rules of the jurisdiction under which the aircraft is being operated). Under normal circumstances, entry and exit from the aircraft is with the engine off. It is extremely hazardous to enter and exit the aircraft with the engine operating. 7.2 PERFORMANCE AND HANDLING Aircraft performance and flight characteristics are significantly affected by the installation of the Aerocet 3500 or 3500L float installation. Extensive performance flight testing was not completed with the installation. Pilots are cautioned that some degradation in performance (take-off run/distance, rate-of-climb, cruise speed, landing distance/run, fuel consumption in all flight conditions, power settings, and high altitude performance) is to be expected. Pilots must thoroughly familiarize themselves with the flight and performance characteristics of the aircraft, and must monitor take-off, climb, cruise and landing performance including fuel consumption to establish that performance is adequate for the intended flight. Particular care must be taken in the following cases: a. Situations where take-off distance is critical (it is noted that water take-offs result in significant increases to takeoff distances). b. Situations where rate of climb or climb gradient are critical. 7 July
c. Operations near the maximum operating altitude. d. Long range ferry operations. NOTE: For the float equipped aircraft, take-offs are normally accomplished with 20 degrees flap for which the maximum rate of climb speed is nominally 73 mph IAS [77 mph CAS] or 64 KIAS [67 KCAS] resulting in a maximum continuous power rate of climb of 690 fpm at 2800 lbs gross weight and standard sea level conditions. It is emphasized that this is the best rate of climb speed and performance at 20 degrees flap and is not the aircraft s best rate of climb speed. The best rate of climb speed is achieved in the clean configuration (flaps up) at the speeds published by Cessna for the landplane configuration. After take-off, after obstacles are cleared and at a safe altitude, increase speed to 73 mph IAS and then slowly raise the flap. Continue to increase speed to the clean configuration best rate of climb speed. NOTE: Failure to maintain the correct 20 degree flap climb speed during the initial climb after takeoff or to raise flap to 20 degree flap during a go-around will result in significant reduction of rate of climb and may lead to critical flight situations. Pilots are also cautioned that float installations are susceptible to damage while the aircraft is docked. Wherever possible, docking locations should be selected to minimize the risk of damage. 7.3 WEIGHT AND BALANCE It is noted that the pilot-in-command is responsible for establishing the aircraft weight and balance configuration prior to flight and for determining that, for all phases of the planned flight, the aircraft weight and balance will be within the approved weight and balance envelope for the float configuration. The weight and balance envelope for the 182E through 182N inclusive models is as follows (normal category operations): (+38.4) to (+45.0) at 2800 lb. (+33.0) to (+45.0) at 2250 lb. or less. Straight line variation between points given. Note: The Cessna 182N land plane configuration is approved for a maximum takeoff weight of 2950 lbs and a maximum landing weight of 2800 lbs. In the float configuration, the 182N is limited to 2800 lbs for both takeoff and landing. All other models in the 182E through 182N range are limited to a maximum gross weight of 2800 lbs (takeoff and landing). The Aerocet 3500 or 3500L floats have a baggage compartment. Each float s baggage compartment is limited to a maximum baggage weight of 100 lbs (45 kilograms). 7 July
A sample weight and balance calculation is provided in the following table (pilots are cautioned to utilize actual weight and balance conditions in determining whether the aircraft will be within the approved weight and balance envelope for all phases of the flight). Table 1 Sample Weight and Balance Calculation for Aerocet 3500L Float Installation on Cessna 182E through 182N ITEM WEIGHT (LBS) ARM AFT DATUM MOMENT (INCLBS) Aircraft Empty Weight with Aerocet 3500L Floats Installed Pilot Co-pilot Baggage (Located at aft baggage area B in the standard seating configuration) (Max 80 lbs Capacity) (Cessna 182N only, serial number and up only).
