4 Average Arrival Performance by Nation in October 2014 Figure 1 shows the average on-time arrival performance by nation in October The blue color represents the best on-time arrivals and red represents the worst on-time arrivals. Among the 50 countries covered in this report, Latvia took the top spot with an average on-time arrival performance of 98.11%, followed by Finland (97.93%) and Panama (96.96%). Pakistan had a better on-time arrival performance than the previous month, but it still ranked at the bottom of the list with only 52.89% of flights arriving on time. 5 Major Arrival Performance in October 2014 Figure 2 shows major airline on-time arrival performance in October The blue color represents the best on-time arrivals and red represents the worst on-time arrivals. Air Baltic took the top spot with an on-time arrival performance of 98.11%, followed by Air Do (97.99%) and Finnair (97.93%). Some Chinese airlines improved their on-time performance significantly compared with the previous month, for example, Xiamen s on-time performance rose by nearly 13 percentage points. 17 Appendix Definitions in the Report Definitions of Delays : A flight is considered on-time if it lands (as the wheels touch ground) less than 30 minutes after the scheduled arrival time. : A flight is classified as late if it lands minutes after the scheduled arrival time. Very : A flight is classified as very late if it lands minutes after the scheduled arrival time. : A flight is classified as excessively late if it lands 60 minutes after the scheduled arrival time. Size, Cancellations and Flight Completions Size: size data is a count of the number of an airline's flights for which VariFlight was able to capture actual departure, arrival or cancellation data. & Delay Calculations: The calculation of an airline s on-time arrival and delayed flight percentages include only those flights that were completed and for which VariFlight was able to collect final status. flights are not included in the delay calculations by subtracting the number of cancellations from Size before calculating on-time percentage. Cancellation: The number of cancelled flights is divided by the Size. Table 11 Actual Flight Data Selection Criteria and Rank Coverage Among the world's major 200 airlines with the largest number of scheduled flights, typically 80% coverage is needed for an airline to be included in the analysis (However, in Asia and Europe the coverage threshold was set at 70% to include a couple of key airlines in the analysis). VariFlight has selected 125 major airlines to be ranked by their on-time arrivals. Table 11 shows the actual flight data coverage of the 125 major airlines.
