TERMINAL 3 tour guide booklet April 2012
T3 PRE-TOUR PARKING / RESTROOMS All attendees should park on the north side of the Department of Aviation s Administration Building, located at 1845 E. Russell Road. Guests will meet their tour guides at this location prior to departing as a group for T3. Guests should be encouraged to use the Administration Building s restrooms before departing on the tour, as T3 restrooms may be closed in certain areas due to construction or maintenance needs. Note: Some stops identified in this tour guide may not be accessible to all tour groups, depending upon construction that may be under way. If an area cannot safely be accessed, guides should move on to the next available tour location identified within this booklet.

A DEPARTURES ROADWAY (Level 2 - Central) SCRIPT: Terminal 3 is McCarran s largest capital improvement project in history Terminal building size is nearly 2 million square feet Total project cost is $2.4 billion T3 is more than a satellite terminal (like D Gates), which is primarily gates As a unit terminal T3 has its own ticketing, baggage claim, roadways, checkpoints T3 was first proposed in 1990, along with the D Gates, to handle future growth More than 600 housing units covering 200 acres were purchased to make room for the T3 site The DOA spent $60 million to relocate Russell Road and utilities in T3 s roadway system spans eight miles and features stacked roadways and 21 bridges The garage has 6,000 spaces on eight levels and totals 2 million square feet 600 uncovered Economy Parking spaces are located east of the garage Departures are on Level 2; Arrivals are below on Zero Level Three pedestrian bridges on Level 1 connect the garage and terminal building and help segregate pedestrian and vehicle traffic Customers must know what terminal houses their airline before they park Electronic roadway signs will direct drivers to their proper terminal NEXT STOP: Proceed to curbside check-in for international airlines.
B CURBSIDE CHECK-IN (Level 2- Central) B B WEST CENTRAL EAST
B CURBSIDE CHECK-IN NEAR DOOR 17, IF ACCESSIBLE (Level 2- Central) SCRIPT: Tour is presented in two halves: outbound process and inbound process Electronic signs support common use; any airline can use any space Conveyors on the sky cap podiums carry bags below Level 2 Radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags are used on all checked bags McCarran and Hong Kong are the world s only 100 percent RFID airports Passenger flow runs north-to-south, not east-to-west Building was designed with bollards and blast resistant materials (post 9/11) NEXT STOP: Enter the building into airline check-in.
C AIRLINE CHECK-IN (Level 2 - East) C WEST CENTRAL EAST C
C AIRLINE CHECK-IN (Level 2 - East) SCRIPT: Electronic signage supports common use approach Signs are flexible can be changed to adapt to airlines needs Turtles give airport flexibility to rearrange check-in space Egress and ingress is within check-in area, not the hallway East half will open June 27 with all international carriers West half opens in late July Alaska, Frontier, Jet Blue, Sun Country and Virgin America move in July United and Hawaiian will move to T3, but will gate at D Concourse Travelers must know their airline s terminal before arrival NEXT STOP: Proceed to Level 2 Security Checkpoint.
D SECURITY CHECKPOINT (Level 2 - Central) WEST CENTRAL EAST D D
D SECURITY CHECKPOINT (Level 2 - Central) SCRIPT: Checkpoints were designed to meet post-9/11 requirements and feature larger space Terminal 3 has up to 31 screening lanes; nearly doubling the 42 now in use Screening lanes will be split: 14 on Level 2 and 17 on Zero Level Level 2 will be the only checkpoint when terminal opens Facility was designed to be flexible TSA s screening process has evolved; we expect it will continue to evolve Floor ducts will accommodate TSA as needs change Video screens will continue to display Las Vegas-themed TSA messages NEXT STOP: Proceed to main concourse near Gate E7.
E MAIN CONCOURSE, POST-CHECKPOINT (Level 2 - Central) WEST CENTRAL EAST E E
E MAIN CONCOURSE, POST-CHECKPOINT (Level 2 - Central) SCRIPT: The building is one-half mile long from east end to west end Passenger flow is north-to-south so length will not be an issue Strong retail is critical McCarran is self-funded, not taxpayer supported Revenue from stores, parking, advertising, etc., offsets the airline s costs T3 will have a 10,000-square-foot duty free store Multi-airline VIP lounge and XpresSpa will appeal to international travelers Other concessions include sit-down restaurants, food court & retail stores Concepts include Pei Wei Asian Diner, Dewar s Clubhouse, Vegas ChopHouse T3 will house 260 to 280 slot machines upon opening; 300+ at build out Welcome to Las Vegas signage provides a sense of place NEXT STOP: Proceed to hold room at Gate E-7.
F HOLD ROOM AT GATE E-7 (Level 2 - Central) WEST CENTRAL EAST F F
F HOLD ROOM AT GATE E-7 (Level 2 - Central) SCRIPT: T3 s 14 gates will be known as the E Gates, numbered 1 to 15 There is no Gate E-13 LCD video towers provide added information, including advertising LCDs will also display gate information, and weather for arrival city T3 will have a robust Wi-Fi system (not fully operational until opening day) T3 has an abundance of power plugs -- near almost every hold room seat Hold rooms have multiple gate information display screens (GIDS) Check-in podium s design and location near doors means less manpower NEXT STOP: Proceed to sterile corridor (enter at any open doorway).
G STERILE CORRIDOR (Level 2 - Central) WEST CENTRAL EAST G G
G STERILE CORRIDOR (Level 2 - Central) SCRIPT: This is where passengers will arrive (begin inbound half of tour) T3 will have seven gates with sterile corridor access Sterile corridors segregate arrivals who have not cleared U.S. Customs Unlike Terminal 2, all seven gates at T3 can access sterile corridor at once which will greatly improve airport s ability to attract international visitors Recently announced carriers include ArkeFly, Air Berlin and Copa T3 has five gates for wide body aircraft Four gates at T3 are equipped with dual jet-bridges NEXT STOP: Proceed downstairs to Zero Level CBP hallway.
H CUSTOMS & BORDER PROTECTION HALLWAY (Zero Level - East) WEST CENTRAL H EAST H
H CUSTOMS & BORDER PROTECTION HALLWAY (Zero Level - East) SCRIPT: International arriving passengers will proceed downstairs to Zero Level toward U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) The slant on the tilework is intended to discourage passengers from using the ledge to put things on and was a suggestion that came from line staff NEXT STOP: Proceed toward CBP arrivals hall located at east end of corridor.
I CBP ARRIVALS HALL (Zero Level - East) WEST CENTRAL EAST I I
I CBP ARRIVALS HALL (Zero Level - East) SCRIPT: The CBP arrivals hall/corridor area is nearly 60,000 square feet 28 lanes vs. 16 at Terminal 2 Expanded area has capacity to process 2,000 passengers per hour vs. 800 today at T2 Large queuing area reduces chances passengers will be held on plane North wall features Terry Ritter showgirls mural Photographer Peter Lik s image of Grand Canyon will also be shown here Hall also contains seven Global Entry kiosks for frequent travelers McCarran has permission to create a Las Vegas-themed welcome video NEXT STOP: Proceed west toward CBP baggage claim.
