10 The 787 will use Wireless Technology While on the Ground The 787 will use wireless ( b/g) technology while at the gate to transfer maintenance data and to update the Electronic Flight Bag (EFB), allowing the airlines to operate the aircraft more efficiently Wireless b/g is a line of site technology. Airports have significant RF energy - so the time to begin coordinating and planning for airside antennas is now Boeing is assisting with the development of the standards - ARINC 763, 821 and 822 Boeing can assist with the development of the wireless system airside. If you would like to obtain a copy of the Boeing document explaining the key configuration requirements for connecting to the 787 with a ground wireless network, please contact: 787terminalwireless@boeing.com (a Proprietary Information Agreement (PIA) must be signed between your company and Boeing)
11 787 Wireless Technology Line of Site Requirements A clear line of sight is required between the TWLU Antenna and the airside antenna. The TWLU is mounted on the top of the fuselage just aft of the trailing edge of the forward passenger door. Maximum height of the TWLU antenna is 25.7 ft (7.8m) ft (50.6m) is the distance of the line of sight from the TWLU Antenna to the ground which corresponds to an 8.8 degree angle
12 Sectorized & Omni Antennas are Required to Support Terminal, Remote Parking and Other Requirements
13 Electrical Ground Power FWD EE The 787 is equipped with three industry standard external electrical power receptacles Two receptacles are located in just aft of the nose landing gear and a third receptacle aft of the main landing gear AFT EE The two forward receptacles are used for normal ground handling and turnaround The aft receptacle is only used for specific maintenance actions and non-normal engine start scenarios
