Page Welcome to WSI Fusion TM About WSI s Proactive Operations Management Solution WSI Fusion is a flight tracking solution that goes beyond traditional aircraft situational display by delivering the tools necessary for proactive operations management. WSI incorporates proprietary content such as Satellite-Derived Radar (SATrad), Enroute Hazards and Lightning data as well as government issued graphical and text based information providing early insight into changing weather, flight, airfield, and airspace conditions. This enables operators to optimize operations and mitigate the impacts of disruptive events. The software uses a manage by exception concept to allow users to make more efficient use of their time by alerting users only when their attention or action is required.
Page WSI Fusion TM Concepts This document will provide you an overview of the key WSI Fusion concepts from a user s perspective. See the user s guide or online Help facility for a more exhaustive feature-by-feature description of WSI Fusion functionality. Login Use the desktop shortcut to launch WSI Fusion Login with your personal username and password. If you desire, select Store to retain these Press the OK button Login Window Desk A desk in WSI Fusion represents the set of flights being worked by a user. Upon startup, you are asked to choose a desk. This is an optional selection which may be bypassed by hitting Cancel. The selection of a desk controls which flights or aircraft fleet of interest you will be working with and alerted upon. A Desk may be created (owned) by o Any individual user, o Administrator, or o Automatically. Desk Selection Window Note: Auto Desks are created for customers with custom integration. See your WSI Fusion Sales representative for further information.
Page Managing Desks & Desk Properties From the dashboard, select Tools > Desks After login, you may o change the desk you signed into, o select a default which will automatically check a box in the initial desk selection dialog upon login o add, edit, or delete desks, o show Auto-Desk assignments, and o set default desk aircraft properties. Tools Dropdown Menu Notes: Certain user actions related to desks can be controlled by user permissions that are established when user accounts are created: o Ability to select a desk (users can be limited to using default desks assigned by administrators) o Ability to create a user-owned desk o Ability to publish an admin-owned desk. When an Auto desk is selected, you only have the option to show the flights that have been assigned to the desk in the schedule. You may not modify an Auto desk. Desk Management Window Add or Edit a Desk By hitting Add or Edit from manage desks (shown above), the dialog at right appears, where you: Establish a unique filter name Determine the appropriate Owner Establish basic flight filtering criteria. Note: If you have administrative privileges, you may select owner as Admin on the form. The desk definition created this way then becomes available to all users. Add/Edit Desk Window
Page View You may customize views. You may create one or many customized views. Within a view window, you may work in a graphical (Map) or text (List) mode. The user may switch between Map & List modes within the same window. Map List View Collection The view collection contains the group of open windows for WSI Fusion TM on your desktop. A view collection may contain one or multiple views may be: o Personal, o Shared, or o Admin-Defined View Collection Map (view) Flight List (view)
Page Map View A map view allows you to interact with many graphical overlays using various Windows-standard controls: Toolbars Dropdown Menus Right-Click Menus Tooltips Controls (Pinned/Unpinned) Map View Controls The Diversion Monitor allows you to track diverted flights through the recovery process. The Desk Flight Progress panel allows you to interact with deskflights, through an embedded list within a map view. The Layer Control allows you to turn layers on/off. The Flight Filter panel controls what aircraft are displayed on the map The Airport Widgets Panel provides a dashboard of key performance indicators at an airport (Surface Movement Package Only) The View control panel allows you to quickly jump between stored views. The Legend shows you what those layers look like. The Time and Altitude sliders allow you to filter the display by altitude or specific time (historical or forecast). All controls may be quickly unpinned or closed to maximize a map view. By hovering over something unpinned, you can temporarily expand the control.
Page Map View Navigation Use the mouse scroll-wheel for easy map navigation. o Zoom In/Out o Pan North/South o Pan East/West By changing your cursor mode from the map tool bar. o Hand (grab & drag) o Zoom To Area (square off) o Zoom Cursors Keyboard o Page Up/Down - zoom o Arrow Keys - pan o <Ctrl> + pan/zoom Keys for smaller steps Undo Button to go back 1 map view Save For Later From the File menu, you may save and retrieve views stored on the central WSI Fusion TM database. By checking Default, this will be the map view launched. By saving a view with a unique name, you may create and share multiple configurations of your settings. If a view is Shared it is visible to any user of WSI Fusion TM within your company, from any PC. By opening a view, you may load a copy of a previously configured map or flight list. Quick-Save Button Open Map View Window
Page System Tray Application The system tray application provides a convenient way to launch new windows, establish view collections, or otherwise exit the application. From the system tray, the you may Change A Password Create or Open Views Create or Open View Collections Manage Alerts Manage View Collections Manage Users (Administrators Only) Launch Additional Services o Dispatchbrief o Chart Viewer (by subscription) o Message Center (by subscription) o WSI Fusion Replay (by subscription) A View Collection in WSI Fusion TM captures the current desktop configuration including the number of windows (views) displayed, view mode type (map or list), and screen position. If you prefer to use multiple views, or establish a default collection of views to launch upon login, you may do so through the system tray context (right click) menu. System Tray
Page Flight List View The second type of view window is a flight list. Any map view may be shifted to a list view of the same flights using the toolbar button or from the pull down menu View > As Flight List, and vice versa. A list view will allow you to see text based information about a group of flights, defined by your desk or custom flight filter criteria. You may customize which columns are displayed. There are some key differences between the aircraft displayed in a map or list view: A map view shows the flights matching the flight filter that are en route. In the list view, View > Override Flight Status provides the following options intended to allow data for flights that cannot be shown on the map to be viewed: o All the list view should show all flights that match the flight filter, not just the ones that are shown on the map. The map will always show only en route flights. o Preflight Restrict the list view to show only flights that have not yet departed. o En route Show all flights that are en route. o Landed Restrict the list view to show only flights that have already landed. o Same Flights As Map This indicates that no override is to be applied in the flight list, that is, the exact same set of flights that are shown on the map will be shown in the list. Note that this is different from the en route option when the flight filter includes a Problem Flights restriction, for example, to only show flights that intersect a warning box.
Page Map View Windows Flight Filters WSI Fusion TM can handle aircraft position information from multiple sources which can be plotted graphically on the map or within a flight list view. However, you are likely only interested in a subset of flights: Desk - Initially, you may have selected a desk, and if so a flight filter will automatically appear in your flight filters dialog, within any view window. Custom - In addition to company flights of interest, you may want to create a Custom flight filter, based on a variety of criteria. These are typically only accessible within one view, unless otherwise shared (between views). The Flight Filters Window depicted at left may be opened from the View > Controls dropdown on a Map and Flight List view. o o This is where custom flight filters may be defined. For example, it would be possible to show only flights subject to airborne holding, or certain equipment types. In this example, three distinct custom flight filters have been defined where each one is assigned a flight symbol of a different color. Flight Filters Panel Note: a custom flight filter is different from a desk in WSI Fusion TM. Although they may be defined in a similar way, you will not be alerted on custom-filtered flights. Tips and Tricks: A quick way to turn flights on/off is through the View dropdown menu on the map. Further differentiate flights by changing the flown route color for the individual flight filters, this helps see the flown tracks better in high density areas. From the flight filters window you may save and retrieve individual custom flight filter settings stored on the central WSI Fusion TM database. The fastest way to add a flight filter is by right clicking on an airport. Map Tools
Page Distance/Bearing Tool Use to measure between two points. Select Cursor Mode, then left click, right click: Left click for the pivot point Right click on the end point Use scroll wheel to adjust zoom rate Continue to right click to move end point Latitude and Longitude? Lat/Long is always calculated based on cursor position. This is depicted on the status bar. Map View, Using Distance/Bearing Tool Route Selection Tool Route Selection Tool The Route Selection Tool allows you to display Ad-Hoc, FAA preferred, CDR, or companydefined routes. Use for preflight planning or enroute reroutes. Modify an existing canned route by right clicking on a route within the route tool list. Change color options for routes so they may stand out better against your custom defined background colors and other overlays. Note: Company routes may be ingested directly from your flight planning system. See your WSI Fusion Sales representative for further information.
Page Layer Control Activate and deactivate map layers. My Preferences The user preferences window is where you may Control what layers looks like, Zoom rates at which they appear, Modify general WSI Fusion TM options, and Share & Import user preferences. Product Status Double click on the color panel, Product Status appears: Date/Time of enabled products Nav cycle information Server connected-to Traffic Lights depict currency o Green: Current o Yellow: Past expected update o Red: Past critical update threshold Click the Ack checkbox to acknowledge products which may be outdated.
Page Priority Lists WSI Fusion allows users to define, name, store, and re-use useful sets of navigational data and frequently active volcano locations. This useful set is referred to as a priority list. In this particular example, right click on Airports in the Airspace layer control, choose the Priority Lists option Some priority lists allow for filtering on relevant information about the specific data type, for example all airports with hard runways over 5000 feet. Once filtered, you may select groups or individual lines that may be moved from the left to the right using the > >> < << buttons. You can quickly make entries through the freetext line, and for larger lists that you may have in a text file (separated by spaces or commas) open up the larger entry box. Airport Priority List Add Airports Freetext Window From the layer properties window you may save and retrieve custom priority lists stored on the central WSI Fusion TM database. Anyone may choose whether or not the list that he or she has created may be made visible to other users by selecting Shared. Administrators have the additional capability of sharing lists that are visible on the layer control. Some examples are depicted at left such as B737 ALTN, DOT32, etc. Note: Lists need not be saved individually. You may elect to simply work with one list within your map, in which case this list is made available under the general list called Priority. Tips and Tricks By using the filtering controls on the Airport Priority List tab, a shift supervisor (administrator) can create and share an airport list visible to all users for that airline. Saving individual lists saves time when creating multiple views within which, you may want to incorporate a list of the same airports. Priority Lists are supported for: Airports, Navaids, Waypoints, Airways, Airspace Boundaries, Special Use Airspace, and Static Volcano Points. Any number of priority lists may be viewed simultaneously.
Page Alerts The alerting functionality in WSI Fusion allows users to specify conditions related to flights and to airports that they would like to be made aware of. A list of all active alerts is available by clicking on the alert toolbar. How Am I Alerted? Select the Setup tab to configure alerting parameters Alert Center Inbox For flight alerts, you may configure how early you want to be notified depending on phase of flight. In the flight alert example at right, the alert will not appear more than 75 minutes prior to departure. Depending on alert severity of High, Medium, or Low, you may choose how the alert is conveyed to you: In a pop-up dialog, Flight/Airport circled temporarily, Flight/Airport circled until the alert is no longer active. Send , or Play a Sound Alert Center Setup Tab Pop Up Circled Flight Flights with active alerts will be depicted with an icon in the Desk Flight Progress panel. If acknowledged, these icons will appear with a checkmark. Tips and Tricks Use the acknowledgement function to keep track of those alerts you have taken action on. If you need to find an alert you may have previously dismissed, check the Acknowledged tab within the alert center. Double click on an alerted flight or airport, to view a details dialog containing an alert list specific to that individual flight or airport. Desk Flight Progress Panel
Page What Am I Alerted On? Select the Definitions tab to configure alert rules. Flight Alerts By hitting the New button, or by selecting a row within the Flight Alert Definitions window and hitting Modify, the window at left appears. Here you can set or modify: The alert subtype, The alert priority, and The condition and trigger values Alert Center Definitions Tab In the example at left, an alert has been created for destination airport visibility reported less than (<) 1/2 Statute Mile. These Flight alerts will only be generated for flights that are in the desk. Airport Alerts You may want to create alert definitions for airports that may provide early warning for airports of more significant interest. While in the Alert Definitions window, you can quickly show Airport Alerts by changing the selection option. Create/Edit Flight Alert Definitions Window Creating an airport alert definition is similar to the process of creating a flight alert. A key difference is that you may choose which airports are alerted on by: Quickly selecting airports by entering identifiers in the freetext line separated by commas or spaces, Selecting Desk, which in this case considers all airports (i.e. origin & destination) associated with a desk flight, or Choosing a previously created airport subset of airports (which matches the list within the airports layer control. WSI additionally provides System Wide alerts that are generated by WSI to alert users to issues relating primarily to data service interruptions. Create/Edit Airport Alerts Definition Window
