Multiple landings Review: Aerotow Release Clearing Transfer of controls Minimum Controllable Airspeed Stalls Steep turns Traffic Patterns Pre termination of tow Solo flight: Check Weather conditions. Student performance should be safe and the outcome of any maneuver should never be in doubt. Atmosphere should put the student at ease. Check weight and balance. Suggest one (more if needed) simulated rope break (200 ). Endorse 4
5 Post Solo: Logbook and Student Pilot Certificate. Do a Pre solo brief. Student should make a minimum of 2 T.O.s and Landings. Have radio handy if needed. Glider Private Pilot Syllabus At least two separate days of solo flight. An instructor or safety officer must be made aware of each flight. AS: Lesson 1: Flight: Review and refine; this lesson is optional based on student proficiency Preflight Checklists Speed control/trim use Normal and steep turns: coordinated Imminent and full stalls: straight, turning, landing Traffic patterns GB: Lesson 2: Ground reference maneuvers: such as, turns along a road, tracking a road, or slips along a road Wake turbulence avoidance GFH: 5 1 thru 5 10, AS: 77 92, Lesson 3: Ground: Aircraft performance; glide polars, density altitude, T.O. and landing distance, IAS, CAS, TAS, and Ground speed AIM Chapter 3, 5 Lesson 4: Ground: Airspace: A, B, C, D, E, G, Restricted, MOA, VR/IR routes, SUA, TFR, NOTAMS. AS: 77 87,
6 Lesson 5: Flight and ground: Soaring flight, thermal soaring, speed to fly Lesson 6: Ground: Glider disassembly and assembly GFH: 8 18, 11 1 thru 11:17 Lesson 7: Ground: Cross country; planning, navigation, pilotage, dead reckoning, computer, and airport familiarization At least one flight away from the glider port (instruction) Lesson 8: Ground: Oral test prep.
